As if the news couldn't get any worse this week, there is speculation WrestleMania 37 could be facing issues that could affect the pay-per-view.

SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA, is scheduled to host WWE Wrestlemania 37 next year but they have announced the cancellation of the grand opening events on July 25th and July 26th. Acts like Taylor Swift, who was scheduled to perform concerts on those dates has announced the concerts are postponed due to the Coronavirus. Also, nbcsports.com noted that the NFL's future there is uncertain. They write, "it’s entirely possible that the first season of the new stadium will involve few if any paying customers, with the venue simply providing the backdrop for the TV broadcast of 16 regular-season games due to be played there."

Obviously, WrestleMania is a ways away and Inglewood Mayor James Butts wrote the following on Facebook regarding the status of Wrestlemania: "I have no intention at this time of delaying Wrestlemania 37." That said, it will be a situation worth keeping an eye on.

This all comes after news from The Los Angeles Times that restrictions on large gatherings might not be lifted until 2021. On Monday, Mayor Eric Garcetti stated during his weekly briefing that “large gatherings such as concerts and sporting events may not be approved in the city for at least 1 year.”

WWE Might Need a Backup Plan

With WrestleMania 37 scheduled for March 28, 2021, it is becoming apparent that WWE may need to have a backup plan in place to avoid possible problems. That could mean ticket sales will be delayed, which could in turn, affect sales, the rest of WrestleMania week and more.

If restrictions are not lifted in the Los Angeles area, the show itself would need to be moved to a venue that either would allow gatherings or go back to an empty arena.
