WrestleMania Backlash was the first pay-per-view after the Showcase of Immortals, so several storylines continued from the previous colossal event. The Backlash pay-per-view was a solid show, with some incredible matches.

It consisted of seven matches, and five of those were title matches. While one title changed hands, four other champions defended their titles successfully. WWE introduced a new idea of having zombies in the Lumberjack match between Damian Priest and The Miz. Some of the top names had a great night at WrestleMania Backlash, whereas some of them had a disappointing one.

10 Stole The Show: Dominik Mysterio

dominik mysterio

Dominik Mysterio and Rey Mysterio challenged The Dirty Dawgs for their SmackDown Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania Backlash. However, The Mysterio duo was given an insurmountable obstacle when Dominik was ambushed by Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode prior to the match.

Due to the injury, the match temporarily turned into a Handicap match because Rey Mysterio went to the ring alone. However, the junior Mysterio stole the show at the climax when he entered the match and picked up the win with a Frog Splash. They became the first-ever father-son duo to win Tag Team Titles in WWE.

9 Flopped: The Miz

The Miz

The Miz and Damian Priest crossed paths in a Lumberjack match, with zombies surrounding the ring. The Miz had another forgettable night at WrestleMania Backlash, where he suffered yet another loss.

Although zombies created a hurdle for both, Priest didn't take long to get the pin over The Miz. After the match, the zombies ate The Miz in the ring, which was certainly ridiculous. Considering that The Miz put on another disappointing performance, it was hard to believe that he won the WWE Championship not too long ago.

8 Stole The Show: Bianca Belair

BIANCA BELAIR

Bianca Belair defended the SmackDown Women's Championship for the first time at WrestleMania Backlash, and her opponent was none other than the longest-reigning champion with the blue title, Bayley.

The EST of WWE had another amazing night. It was an outstanding match of over 15 minutes, and Bayley came close to pinning the champion a couple of times but failed.

7 Flopped: Ricochet

RICOCHET

Ricochet was hardly seen on TV until getting a non-title shot against the United States Champion at WrestleMania Backlash, owing to the injury of Humberto Carrillo. But the Resident Superhero didn't make good use of the opportunity after answering the open challenge from Sheamus.

The non-title match, which took place in the pre-show, was mostly dominated by Sheamus, who emerged victorious within seven minutes.

6 Stole The Show: Rhea Ripley

RHEA RIPLEY

Like Bianca Belair, Rhea Ripley, the RAW Women's Champion, also defended the title at WrestleMania Backlash, and she gave a stellar performance. She defended the title successfully against two prominent challengers, Charlotte Flair and Asuka.

It was an extraordinary match as expected, and Ripley was certainly one of the stars of the night. She pinned Asuka to keep the gold around her waist. Meanwhile, Charlotte watched from ringside, possibly hinting to continue their one-on-one feud in the future.

5 Flopped: Asuka

ASUKA WWE

In an attempt to regain the RAW Women's Championship in the triple threat match, Asuka had a forgettable night. The Japanese Superstar showed her valiant efforts throughout the match, but her poor run after WrestleMania 37 continued, as she was the one to take the pinfall from Rhea.

She also took a pinfall on the RAW before WrestleMania Backlash as well.

After losing the title rematch opportunity fair and square, it wouldn't make sense for her to get another title shot against Rhea in the future.

4 Stole The Show: Cesaro

CESARO

Cesaro competed in the main event of WrestleMania Backlash, and it was perhaps the biggest match of his career. He received his first Universal Championship opportunity against the reigning champion, Roman Reigns.

Despite ending up on the losing side, Cesaro had an impressive night. The Swiss Cyborg showed his proficiency and brutal power in the ring going toe-to-toe with the Tribal Chief. But he succumbed to the devastating Guillotine Choke at the end after escaping it a couple of times earlier.

3 Flopped: John Morrison

John Morrison wasn't in the match card of WrestleMania Backlash, but he accompanied The Miz to the ring in the Lumberjack match. Since zombies were the Lumberjacks, it seemed like Morrison could be a handy option to counter the zombies, and it might give Priest a disadvantage.

However, it didn't happen, as Morrison was taken out by the zombies at ringside by the end of the match. It allowed Priest to win the bout.

2 Stole The Show: Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns

WrestleMania Backlash was another huge night for Roman Reigns, who produced another memorable performance to prove his dominance. He defended the Universal Title against Cesaro, and they went to war.

The main event lasted nearly 30 minutes because Cesaro refused to give up, showing what the title opportunity meant to him. Jey Uso didn't interfere in the match, unlike several past matches. Roman secured the win on his own.

1 Flopped: Braun Strowman

BRAUN STROWMAN

Braun Strowman was part of the WWE Championship match, which had Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley. While it was a hard-hitting match, Strowman squandered another world title opportunity, as Lashley retained the gold.

Earlier, McIntyre and Lashley teamed up to take out Strowman. But the monster retaliated a couple of times, including putting McIntyre through the table. In the end, the monster was the one to get pinned for the three count. A Claymore knocked down Strowman, but Lashley threw McIntyre out of the ring and pinned Strowman following a Spear.
