WrestleMania matches are meant to provide a special feel with the atmosphere of the show being bigger than any other event all year. WWE treats the massive show as its version of the Super Bowl which causes everyone to want to have their best performances on the biggest stage. Quite a few wrestlers found their way into matches that took place multiple times at WrestleMania throughout the years.

Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns

WWE wanted to see Roman Reigns have a big victory over Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania even though it never happened. WrestleMania 31 saw the fans turning on Reigns and Seth Rollins using the Money in the Bank briefcase for an all-time great cash-in moment.

The rematch came at WrestleMania 34 and was significantly worse this time around. Fans had even less interest and heckled the match. Lesnar surprisingly retained in an all-time bad WrestleMania main event that failed in a major way.

8 Great: Brock Lesnar vs Goldberg

One surprising rivalry to have a great rematch was Brock Lesnar vs Goldberg. The first bout came at WrestleMania 20 when WWE sold it as a dream match in 2004. Both men were leaving the company after that night and the fans heckled them for an all-time terrible match.

WWE took a huge risk having a rematch come at WrestleMania 33 after Goldberg scored a prior victory over Brock and won the Universal Championship ahead of this show. Lesnar defeated Goldberg in a great sprint to win the title back in entertaining fashion.

7 Didn’t Need: Bret Hart vs Yokozuna

Bret Hart at WrestleMania 10

WWE wanted Bret Hart and Yokozuna to become top stars of the New Generation Era when building new main event acts. Hart had more popularity than Yokozuna even though Bret put Yoko over at WrestleMania 9. Everyone most remembers Hulk Hogan sneaking in to beat Yokozuna and win the title.

WrestleMania 10 saw Hart getting to face Yokozuna again in the main event as the challenger this time. Bret winning the WWE Championship was a great moment, but the match was a disappointment. WWE went with the strange idea of having two title defenses in one night to take away from the main event.

6 Great: The Hardy Boyz vs The Dudley Boyz vs Edge and Christian

The legendary three-team rivalry between the Hardy Boyz, Dudley Boyz, and Edge and Christian became a huge part of the Attitude Era. All three teams had something to prove and used the gimmick of tables, ladders, and chairs to do it.

WrestleMania 2000 saw them stealing the show with a triple ladder match that changed the game. The rematch one year later at WrestleMania 17 saw the TLC match once again hitting the mark. Edge and Christian won both matches in classics.

WWE’s big rematch came one match later at WrestleMania IV in the first round of a tournament for the vacated WWE Championship. The match was a big attraction for WWE but ended in a double DQ. There was no need to sell the rematch if WWE didn’t have a good plan in place.

4 Great: The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels

WWE utilized the legendary legacies of The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels to put them in a huge attraction at WrestleMania 25. The classic match saw Undertaker winning to continue his undefeated streak in one of the best matches in WWE history.

Michaels put his career on the line in the big rematch at WrestleMania 26 to add to the appeal. The match was just as great with Undertaker once again winning to extend his streak. Undertaker and Michaels created something special with both matches setting a standard for the biggest show.

3 Didn’t Need: Daniel Bryan vs Sheamus

Daniel Bryan vs Sheamus

Daniel Bryan and Sheamus endured bad luck in their WrestleMania matches. The first match was bumped from the main card to pre-show at WrestleMania 27 for the United States Championship. It turned in a lumberjack match for everyone not booked on the main card.

The rematch came one year later at WrestleMania 28 when Bryan won the World Championship and Sheamus won the Royal Rumble. This was even worse with Sheamus beating Bryan in a mere 18 seconds. The match caused fans to turn against Sheamus’ face run and ruined his title reign.

2 Great: The Rock vs Steve Austin

 The Rock vs Steve Austin

The best instance of WWE finding a rematch for WrestleMania saw The Rock and Steve Austin facing off three times. Austin winning the first match at WrestleMania 15 was great, but the anticipation for the rematch at WrestleMania 17 was at another level.

Many fans few that match as the biggest attraction in WWE history with great results. WWE went to the rematch one more time at WrestleMania 19 with their final match against each other. Rock finally scored his first win over Austin in Stone Cold's last match.

1 Didn’t Need: The Rock vs John Cena

The Rock vs John Cena

The Rock returning to WWE in 2011 set up a rivalry with John Cena that had their first match scheduled for WrestleMania 28 one year in advance. WWE took a risk by putting so much time into their match, but it was a fun win for Rock.

However, the rematch one year later at WrestleMania 29 felt like a huge waste of time. WWE billed the first match as “once in a lifetime,” yet booked it again at the next WrestleMania. Rock put over Cena, but fans felt burnt out with a lackluster response for the main event.
