Just when we thought 2019 couldn't possibly get any better on the wrestling front, CM Punk returns to the WWE fold.

The cliche never say never has never felt more apt than it did last night. As this week's WWE Backstage was coming to a close, Renee Young revealed that she had a big announcement to make. That announcement was the unveiling of CM Punk, and that the former WWE Champion will be joining the show and appearing periodically. Punk himself told the camera and fans watching that they'll see him on the show next week.

When Punk has done as much as tweet about wrestling in the past five years it has sent the internet into meltdown, so just imagine how it has been for the past ten hours or so. Whether people have been itching to see Punk return to the WWE fold or not, it feels as if everyone has had something to say.

Although Punk is apparently an employee of FOX, WWE tweeted about his appearance on Backstage moments after it happened. However, for some strange reason, it didn't tag the man himself. Young quoted the tweet and wrote, "tag him you cowards!" and tagged The Second City Saint for them. She's not the only one in the business who's excited about Punk's return.

Seth Rollins was clearly watching Backstage, or perhaps he just happened to be on Twitter when it blew up around midnight. The Architect tweeted "fight me CM Punk." Rollins did not need to be prompted about tagging the former WWE Champion. It should also be noted that when Punk left WWE back in 2013, some of the stars now signed to the company would have still been fans when he last wrestled.

Rhea Ripley demonstrated that via her reaction. The first-ever NXT UK Women's Champion tweeted "the child in me is crying right now!" Ripley will have been just 16 years old when Punk last wrestled. Now he is back in the WWE fold, she might even get to meet and work with him sometime in the future, depending on what the plan is. Exciting times for Punk fans and that includes Ripley.
