Professional wrestlers in the WWE come and go. There are plenty of WWE Superstars who have good runs with the company and move on to other things and there are other stars who are forced out due to bad decisions. Every story is different and in the process of letting someone go, sometimes WWE makes the right choice and sometimes they don't.

Take for example a guy like Dolph Ziggler. He was recently given a new contract with a big raise because WWE feared he would move on and become a star for another promotion. Perhaps he would have and maybe he wouldn't have but WWE didn't want to take that chance. Were they right? The next year will really tell the story about whether or not the company's hunch was correct.

When a wrestler leaves the company and goes on to become a flop or a huge star, WWE can't live in regret but it has to be assumed that sometimes, they likely wish they'd get another shot to do things differently. Perhaps when WWE had them, these particular talents didn't reach their potential.  Or, perhaps someone who was thought to be a star didn't bring in enough to become a top draw. Whatever the reason, WWE has been known to cut bait and give second chances.

Some names might surprise you and some names may already be making their way back to WWE. Here are 17 wrestlers WWE could be making a decision on. 10 of these wrestlers WWE would do anything to get back and seven they wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole.

18 Wants Back: Alberto Del Rio

via wwe.com

One might have thought Alberto Del Rio would be on the "never let back" list but word is lately that Vince would welcome Del Rio back into "his" WWE if he wasn't under contract with Impact Wrestling. Strange to hear, but perhaps there's a good reason for it.

Vince is aching to reach a Latino demographic with someone who can be a star. Del Rio has proven he can be a main event player and has a huge reach in Mexico. Perhaps that's enough to overlook his checkered past which includes slapping a co-worker, calling out WWE employees in public and having a tenuous relationship with current WWE female competitor Paige. Del Rio is not without his warts but he is a top-level guy. They aren't necessarily growing on trees.

17 Wants Back: Kenny Omega

via polygon.com

There are a lot of fans just starting to become aware of how special Kenny Omega is. His work in Japan caught a lot of attention over the last year and he's become a highly-coveted wrestler by many promotions, including WWE. Once he proved he could sell out Wrestle Kingdom 12 with Chris Jericho, WWE knew he was someone worth pursuing.

Most fans probably don't know Omega was once a part of the WWE. In October 2005, he was sent to a development territory called Deep South Wrestling and was given a developmental contract.  He wrestled there but never really felt like he fit in. He left and slowly became the star he is now. Some believe he'll eventually make his way to WWE but he's often heard claiming they turn their wrestlers into robots and that he'd never fit in.

16 Never Let Back: Rich Swann

via tmz.com

Rich Swann was recently released by WWE after charges of domestic dispute were dropped early in 2018. He was suspended indefinitely when the alleged incident took place and was set to return but released prior to. Just recently, he was tweeting the fact that he had booked a bunch of independent shows and was nervous and excited but that they'd be his last and he'd be retiring. He sounds unsure of his future and that's not something WWE wants on their roster.

He was part of the Cruiserweight Division but was never really a draw for the company. He's not the kind of talent you move things around to make room for and WWE didn't lose much by letting him go. They'll be fine and choosing to bring him back would offer nothing of value.

15 Wants Back: The Rock

via businessinsider.com

Technically The Rock is still on the WWE roster page so he's still in the WWE. That said, he's the busiest man in Hollywood and the likelihood he's going to show up anytime soon or at an event other than WrestleMania for big bucks is slim. WWE is proud that one of their own has become such a big star, but they sure would like his drawing power a lot more often.

Every time The Rock shows up, people tune in. He's a huge movie star and the crossover appeal is massive for WWE. They simply can't afford to have him that often and he's simply too busy to commit. There are some great workers in WWE that The Rock could have big matches with but that's probably not going to happen.

14 Never Let Back: Austin Aries

In the WWE, the saying "never say never" is often true. One guy that might be pushing the envelope is Austin Aries. He's allegedly a handful to work with, publicly comments about his displeasure with things that are going on around him and he seems to think he's a bigger draw than he actually is.

WWE gave him a shot as an announcer and then in the Cruiserweight Division at WrestleMania but he whined about the amount of money he was making and being removed from the DVD. The minute he left WWE he bragged publicly about how much more money he was making on the independent scene and while he's a strong in-ring worker, he's not a "Superstar". He's much better off on the independents and WWE will keep him there.

13 Wants Back: Cody Rhodes

via liquidae.com

Cody Rhodes was also a guy who discussed money outside of WWE but the difference between himself and Austin Aries is that Cody has proven he can elevate a company by being its big star. Cody had the guts to leave WWE at a time he wouldn't have ever been fired and wanted to prove himself after WWE failed to let him walk from the Stardust gimmick.

He immediately became a huge star, went to Ring of Honor and became their champion receiving the highest-valued contract that promotion had ever handed out. He was a big part of the Wrestle Kingdom 12 show and is putting together his own show called "All In". He plans to sell out an over 10K arena with a show he self-funded. That's the kind of initiative WWE could use more of.

12 Never Let Back: Konnan

via wrestlefix.com

Konnan was once in WWE way back in 1991 and played the first incarnation of the character Max Moon. However, in 1992 Konnan abruptly left the WWE following a disagreement with Vince McMahon. He no-showed events and used his popularity in Mexico as a reason to think he was above the WWE schedule and he had a reported bad attitude that has followed him to this day. McMahon doesn't like wasting money on wrestlers but he hates talent who no-show events.

Since leaving Konnan has made a pretty good career for himself but he repeatedly comments negatively about the goings-on in WWE and he tried to stop Rey Mysterio from getting back with WWE unless he could "manage" him. Konnan simply doesn't get it and WWE has absolutely no time for someone with an ego his size. He'd need to be a much bigger star if they were to put up with his primadonna ways.

11 Wants Back: Bobby Lashley

via cagesideseats.com

This may be an entry that feels a bit too late to officially call Bobby Lashley someone the "WWE wants back" because he may have already signed with the company. His return, however, hasn't been confirmed and the best anyone can say is that they think he'll show up at WrestleMania 34 or the night after on Raw. If that's not officially the case yet, there's a good reason WWE would want him back.

He's a legit tough guy with the look WWE absolutely loves. With Brock Lesnar potentially leaving and heading back to UFC, WWE would love to replace him with someone who could play a similar role of a legit fighter taking on the wrestling business. If Lesnar does stay, he and Lashley make perfect sense to square off against one another. Lashley doesn't have the buzz Lesnar had when he returned but fans do know of his success in MMA.

10 Never Let Back: Vince Russo

via stillrealtous.com

Can we say Vince Russo is a wrestler? Maybe not full time, but because he wrote himself into storylines in WCW and won their World Heavyweight Title, he has to be considered an in-ring performer. It's the same principle that applies to Stephanie being a current WWE Superstar and Ronda Rousey choosing her as an opponent at this year's WrestleMania. That said, there's no way WWE would want him as a wrestler or in any other capacity.

WWE knows Russo is full of bad ideas. He only worked during the Attitude Era because he could come up with outlandish storylines that Vince McMahon could pick and choose from. Russo has proven to be a cancer in every other promotion he's worked for and he's already offered to return to write for WWE and they shot him down.

9 Wants Back: CM Punk

via mmajunkie.com

CM Punk said some pretty harsh things about WWE after he left and he's still in the middle of a lawsuit against a WWE doctor who he claims misdiagnosed him but who's fooling who? If CM Punk said he wanted to come back, WWE would take him in a heartbeat.

Punk is a pain to work with and very opinionated but he has a massive following and the fans are aching for his return. Not to mention, the more he tries in the UFC, the bigger his name becomes, even if he loses. WWE loves getting mainstream guys and while Punk isn't proving he can hang in MMA, he is making himself more recognizable and WWE loves that. The fans want it but the two sides are just not on the same page yet.

8 Never Let Back: Bret Hart

via avenuecalgary.com

Bret Hart was the best there was, but he's no longer the best there is or the best there ever will be. In fact, right now he appears to be a bitter former wrestler who thinks everything he ever did in the wrestling was done better by him than anyone else. He's got an opinion about a number of the current roster and while WWE uses him from time to time for appearances or WWE Network projects, they have no interest in him being a regular on WWE programming.

He contacted WWE and offered to write some ideas for some of the talent and WWE politely declined. The product is different than when Hart was at his best and he doesn't seem to get that.

7 Wants Back: Hulk Hogan

via thedailybeast.com

If and when Hulk Hogan returns to WWE it will be because they feel like the expiry date on his controversial personal life has passed. WWE always has room for Hulk Hogan and they know that big shows like WrestleMania are better when he's a part of them. He's arguably the most influential wrestler in the history of WWE and he will get a chance to go out on terms that are better than how he left the last time.

Hogan is prone to making personal mistakes and bad judgment calls but he wants to return and WWE is simply waiting for the right and "ethical" time to bring him back. Even Jim Ross thinks it will be some time in 2018.

6 Never Let Back: Scott Steiner

via wikipedia.org

Scott Steiner is an absolute train wreck. That sounds harsh to say but he's proven time and time again that he can't keep himself out of the spotlight when it comes to picking fights with WWE talents or former Superstars. If the WWE were to bring him back, he'd likely get an initial crowd ovation but the lustre of his return would wear off faster than he could do a pushup.

Steiner is a shell of his former self when it comes to how he looks. He can't move in the ring nearly as well as he once did and at this stage, he's lucky getting wrestling gigs in small gyms in front of 50 fans. He's well past his expiry date and everyone seems to know that but him. There was a time he could have been a big star but that time had passed years ago. Not to mention he and Triple H are not fans of each other.

5 Wants Back: Rey Mysterio

via twitter.com

Another WWE Superstar already rumoured to be making a return to WWE is Rey Mysterio. He showed up at this year's Royal Rumble and has never been seen on a WWE program since. Considering the pop he got and the number of fans who watched the YouTube video of his return, there is definitely a large section of the WWE Universe who want to see him have another run in WWE.

WWE has realized this and is trying to get him back full time. The problem is, Mysterio wants to come back but not on a regular schedule. He has family and the workload for a regular star is too heavy. If the two sides can work out a deal that works for both parties, he'll be back. A recent injury may have set back the timetable on his return but it should still happen in 2018 and around WrestleMania 34.

4 Never Let Back: Ryback

via youtube.com

Ryback is like the running joke of former WWE wrestlers that never gets old. There was a glimmer of hope he had the potential to be a big star but he didn't turn into anything sustainable and when he began to believe his own hype and fought for travel pay and for the company to cover expenses (which they don't do for 90% of their Superstars) WWE was happy to let him walk out the door.

Since his departure, he's done nothing but tell stories about his time in the company and most of those stories are not flattering. Whether he's spilling the beans about another wrestler or talking about how bad life was in WWE, he's burning every bridge he would have otherwise had for a return. So too, since the real Goldberg was brought back, the copycat version isn't really needed.

3 Wants Back: Chris Jericho

via wrestlingnews.co

Will Chris Jericho return to WWE? For a while, it didn't seem like it. He jumped ship to New Japan when WWE had nothing for him to do and he started working with ROH on a wrestling cruise he was organizing. His time in New Japan was immensely successful and he was set to work with them more while touring with his band. Just recently, it looks like he might be done working overseas.

If that's the case, WWE would take him back in a heartbeat. He's done something most wrestlers don't do when they leave WWE and that's become a bigger name in wrestling than when he left. He was already a huge star and after doing so well on his own, WWE knows they can use that buzz to make a huge match with one of their own stars.

2 Wants Back: Daniel Bryan

via wwe.com

Daniel Bryan is still part of the company but not in the capacity he or the WWE would like. Both sides wish things were different and the WWE likely knows that it's a matter of when and not if they lose Bryan to another wrestling promotion. Because they won't medically clear him to compete, neither side is getting what they want.

WWE would love to have him wrestling and building shows around him. Bryan wants to be performing in the ring. Both sides wish things were drastically different but they aren't. He's the one wrestler who actually works for the WWE that they wish they could have back in the form he once was. The fans badly want it too and Yes! chants continue to fill arenas everywhere in the hopes that one day he'll wake up healed.

1 Never Let Back: Enzo Amore

via foxnews.com

Enzo Amore's recent sudden departure from WWE was actually a long time coming. Not only were the allegations brought against him extremely serious and worthy of being terminated for, but he also apparently covered the whole investigation up. When all of that is added to the fact that the locker room really didn't like Enzo and his larger than life persona, the writing was on the wall.

Given the severity of the accusations, it can be assumed that WWE would never take a chance on working with Enzo ever again. He had hinted at wanting to pursue a rap career before he was released, but no one knows if he still has any intention of doing that.
