“Where there’s love, there’s hope.”
“Love is a spice with many tastes. A dizzying array of textures and moments.”
Everyone knows about love. It’s everywhere, especially in the WWE. Vince McMahon loves his money. We love wrestling. Some wrestling couples love each other. John Cena loves his own music. Hulk Hogan loves tearing his shirt off. I think you get the the idea. There’s a lot of love in wrestling.
But in the history of wrestling, nothing defies love like a Superstar or two loving each other. There have been some iconic and power wrestling couples. Some forever changed the industry. Some only lasted a while. Some are going today without tying the knot. But which wrestling couples are truly the best?
Here are our 15 favourite wrestling couples of all-time.
15. Tyson Kidd and Natalya
Natalya is part of the legendary Hart Family; the niece of Bret Hart. Tyson Kidd is NOT part of the Hart Family, though he, Natalya and David Hart Smith formed The Hart Dynasty. But he is a good Canadian boy, something Don Cherry would obviously love.
Natalya and Kid tied the knot and have been married since 2013. Kidd hasn’t wrestled in over a year since sustaining a real spine injury that’s held him back from wrestling. He was apparently lucky to survive the incident as a whole. But Natalya has stayed by his side, and having these two Canadian stars stay side-by-side is a great feel for the Great White North’s citizens.
14. Matt Hardy and Lita
Matt Hardy and Lita had both an on-screen and off-screen relationship. There was just something about the two of them where they came off as the flawless couple. They meshed well together and were clearly in love.
But as everyone remembers, Kane won that silly ‘Till Death Do Us Part match against Hardy at SummerSlam 2004. As per the match stipulation, Kane got to marry Lita as a result. A couple of years later, Edge and Lita began a real life relationship that caused much tension.
And that’s why fans turned big time on Lita and began to despise Edge as a heel and real life figure. It was hard for the fans to accept that Hardy and Lita were no longer a couple. But in the Attitude Era, they defined what true love is.
13. Cody and Brandi Rhodes
Cody Rhodes enjoyed a decent run in WWE. Though it was obviously impossible for him to live up to the legacy of his father, Dusty, he was a decent mid-card wrestler who could have survived in the company longer if he didn’t use the silly Starrdust gimmick.
Rhodes recently got his requested release from WWE and joined TNA. How much are him and his wife Brandi affectionate about each other? Despite a solid back stage gig, Brandi decided to follow her husband and leave altogether as well. Both of them won’t be in the spotlight as much as they once were in WWE, but the fact remains their love is going strong.
12. The Miz and Maryse
The Miz is one of the top WWE Superstars who is overdue for a major title push. He’s been stuck at the mid-card level for quite some time, but he’s still relishing as one of the company’s top heel. When his hand goes up, your mouths go shut. Aside from Chris Jericho, there isn’t a better heel on the mic right now.
They say that girls care more about a guys personality than his looks. Welp, The Miz has nice hair and sweet sunglasses, but we don’t doubt his smooth mic skills helped him pick up Maryse, one of the hottest women in WWE, who also stole our hearts. Though she no longer wrestles, she comes out with her husband during his promos and matches like a great wife. The two have been happily married since 2014.
11. Eddie and Vickie Guerrero
Eddie Guerrero’s WWE career ended in tragedy when he passed away in 2005. He was one of the most beloved underdog stories in the company’s history. His retaining of the WWE Championship over Kurt Angle at WrestleMania XX remains one of the most goosebumps-inducing moments the fans have ever seen.
His wife Vickie didn’t appear on screen that much during his career, though she did help Rey Mysterio beat her husband in a Ladder match at SummerSlam 2005. The stipulation was the winner would have full custody of Rey’s son. How creative! But Vickie handled his passing and became an on-screen authority figure.
Though she was often the bad guy, everybody had to love Guerrero as a heel. Her “EXCUSE ME,” promos were top notch, and nobody showed so much passion and charisma with being a heel the way Vickie did.
10. Shawn Michaels and Rebecca Curci
Shawn Michaels had a tragic life during the ’90s. He had to retire with a back injury, was divorced from his first wife, and struggled with alcohol and drug addictions. There are many stories about him being a straight-up jerk to fans who tried approaching him.
His life changed for the better when he became religious and met Rebecca Curci, a former girl on Nitro in WCW. The two married in 1999 and have since had two children together. Michaels’ resurgence as a wrestler and person have become well-documented in WWE. His relationship with Triple H helped him turn his life around, but obviously do did finding the woman of his dreams.
9. Vince and Linda McMahon
Vincent Kennedy McMahon is the sole reason the WWE is exactly where it is today. He’s the one who found Buddy Rodgers, Bob Backlund, and Hulk Hogan and had them become ultra stars. McMahon would probably not be the successful business without the support of his wife, Linda.
The two have been married for 50 years, and despite allegations of Vince cheating on her, they’ve remained together side-by-side. Linda has helped him run the business over the years, and the two raised a pair of successful children who have full intentions of working in the WWE when Vince’s time ends. Linda has also been put in some crazy storylines in WWE, such as being super upset when Vince wanted “a divorce.”
8. Edge and Beth Phoenix
The Rated R Superstar had an on-screen with relationship that everyone is familiar with. Edge and Lita, however, did not last as a couple. So for all the real-life heat between he and Matt Hardy, nobody ended up with her. How about that?
Anywho, Edge had previously been married twice; to Alannah Morley and Lisa Ortiz. He has been in a relationship with former Diva Beth Phoenix for a couple of years. The two have not gotten married, but they’ve had two children together. Edge’s career ended tragically when he was forced to retire or risk paralysis and even possible death.
7. Booker T and Sharmell
We often forget about the incredible career Booker T had in the WWE. He’s often overshadowed by The Rock, Triple H, Steve Austin, John Cena, The Undertaker, Kurt Angle, Randy Orton, Batista, and others.
But he was undoubtedly one of the greatest in-ring performers. Booker T also had excellent charisma with his microphone skills. His real-life wife, Sharmell, eventually came on-screen to support her husband. When he changed to the King Booker gimmick, Sharmell embraced her Queen Sharmell role. She did a great job presenting her husband as a powerful king, giving both of them an epic heel run.
6. Brock Lesnar and Sable
Brock Lesnar is already one of the most accomplished wrestlers of his time. His legacy has been well cemented for years, but defeating The Undertaker at WrestleMania will no doubt remain his iconic moment.
Lesnar, however, has had problems outside of the WWE. He’s fought drug addictions and has been in trouble with the law for illegal hunting. He failed drug tests for UFC and failed to make it to the NFL. There is no doubt that he’s had to go through plenty of hardships in life. But he’s gotten it back on track.
That’s thanks to his wife, Stable. The former WWE Diva’s Champion married Lesnar in 2006, and the two have a pair of children together. Sable and Lesnar’s relationship has been a strong one for a decade. Given that and how popular both were in the WWE, it’s no secret fans love them so much.
5. CM Punk and AJ Lee
CM Punk was one of the top stars of the past decade. Few Superstars have been so great at cutting promos, becoming such a beloved or despised figure, while also having incredible in-ring ability. Vince McMahon learned to loved what he had in Punk and eventually put him over.
He won iconic title matches over Jeff Hardy and John Cena. But in 2014, all of that ended. Due to backstage problems with the creative control team, Punk walked out of a Monday Night Raw program before air time. Punk refused to come back and was fired on his wedding day…with his wife, A. Lee by his side all along.
4. The Undertaker and Michelle McCool
Well, everyone loves The Undertaker. And Michelle McCool was one of the COOL-est Divas during the 2010s. She relished the heel figure like we’ve seen few other Divas able to do. And The Undertaker is, well, a pretty good wrestler that lots of people love a lot. If you know what I mean.
The Undertaker had previously been married twice, but he and Michelle McCool tied the knot in 2010 and have been happily together since. The two welcomed a daughter together in 2012. Though McCool is no longer wrestling in WWE, her and The Undertaker have kept their relationship super strong, going on seven years together. With this being his third marriage, we can only hope The Undertaker has found his true love once and for all.
3. Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella
Daniel Bryan may be the most beloved WWE Superstar fans have seen in ages. No one got over so quickly with the WWE Universe. His “YES” movement kickstarted a successful push for Bryan. Daniel Bryan was the WWE’s top face, even over legends like John Cena, Triple H, Randy Orton, Batista, and others.
Sadly, Bryan had to announce his retirement this past February with doctors advising him to never wrestle again. Bryan cut a retirement promo and spent an emotional time praising everything his wife Brie did for support. The two were married in 2014 and have both been actively involved in WWE since each decided to retire from wrestling. Bryan talked about his idea of starting a family, and he has the soulmate to do it.
2. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon
Ah yes, the most iconic power couple in the history of the WWE.
Triple H and Stephanie McMahon’s relationship changed the WWE forever. When the two started dating in 1999, it forced out Chyna, one of the top female stars WWE had at the time. This was due to some backstage tension after The Game had previously been with Chyna in a relationship.
The two were married in 2003 and it’s helped Triple H co-run the WWE with his father-in-law, Vince McMahon. The Game has built the NXT division extremely well while helping Vince run the company successfully. Triple H and Stephanie have three daughters together and look like ready to assume full control when Vince’s time is up.
1. Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth
Many remember ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage for two things: Being a great wrestler and having the gorgeous dream wife, Miss Elizabeth. She accompanied him to the ring during the ’80s and ’90s and it helped push Savage. Everybody loved locking their eyes on someone whose beauty defied science.
Savage and Hulk Hogan formed The Mega Powers and changed the wrestling industry together. But Savage was mainly a hero for having the glamorous relationship we all dream of. Elizabeth was his wife in real life and on screen. When they got engaged and later reunited (after a break up), it brought tears to the crowds eyes.
Everyone loved Savage and Elizabeth. It was crushing when they divorced and when she passed in 2003. But their short-lived marriage stole the hearts of millions and is the real iconic wrestling relationship we all remember best.
