Wrong Call: 15 Bad Decisions Made By Female Wrestlers

When you're in any form of sports or entertainment you have to tread very carefully 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

When you're in any form of sports or entertainment you have to tread very carefully 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Rest assured there is almost always someone watching and waiting for you to make mistake and when you do they'll quickly broadcast it to the world especially in the present day. As a celebrity everything you do is under a microscope and will be scrutinized. Wrestling is no exception to that reality. In fact in a couple of ways it's even worse for this. Firstly the WWE machine never stops. It's not as if wrestlers can take a holiday and disappear for a while. They're always wrestling in towns the world over. Secondly a lot of what they do is live, so if you make a mistake chances are millions of people have already seen it and there are no take backs.

What all of that basically means is don't make bad decisions. Easier said than done right? Well this list will focus on wrestlers who really should take that advice, and while the male side of the locker room has been involved in their own fair share of scandals, this article will focus on the female side of things. Sex tapes, wellness policy violations, affairs. They all make appearances in this list and are all things that wouldn't have received as much publicity, if any at all, had the person in question not been a public figure. It may seem unfair but when you're a celebrity any bad decisions you make are magnified and often spiral out of control.

16 The Bellas Trying To Make It Outside Of WWE

via wwe.com

Nikki and Brie Bella have become a staple of the WWE Women's division over the last few years and believe me, there was a time when that looked like it would never be the case. The twins were two of the last female hires by WWE from a bygone era, when the company valued a woman's looks over her wrestling ability. To their credit in time they both honed their craft in the ring and have come on leaps and bounds. If you've seen Total Divas you'll know the sisters are always looking for new opportunities. Well in 2012 Nikki and Brie thought those opportunities lay outside of WWE, so they left. Turns out they were wrong and without the WWE machine behind them making a name for themselves wasn't that easy. A year later, when Total Divas was in the works, the former Divas' Champions came crawling back.

15 Cameron's Favorite Match

via forum.bodybuilding.com

WWE really tried their best to make something out of Cameron, who despite signing for the company in 2011 wasn't released until 2016. The former Funkadactyl first took part in the Diva Search and then was a contestant on the 2011 season of Tough Enough. The fact that she was the first eliminated that season should have been evidence enough that Cameron probably wasn't going to be a major asset to WWE, plus the now infamous answer she gave to Stone Cold who was hosting the show at the time. When asked by The Texas Rattlesnake what her favorite ever match was, she decided a good reply would be Melina versus Alicia Fox. Austin has had Cameron on his podcast since and no offence to the two women she previously mentioned, but she explained to Austin that she has since done her research and cited a few of her new, more respectable, top matches.

14 Mickie James and John Cena

via sportskeeda.com

Mickie James, a former multiple time Women's Champion and veteran of the female division, made her return to WWE in 2016. She began with a one off NXT match against Asuka and has since made a full return, already performing on both Raw and SmackDown Live. What you may not know about Mickie is that during her first run with WWE she dated the sixteen time World Champion, John Cena. The two of them are now with different partners so as you may have already deduced their relationship with each other came to an end. When you work in the same place as your ex, and that place is WWE, things can get a little messy. Following their break up James was moved from one show to another and accusations were made that it was because of Cena using his sway in the company to get that done.

13 Reby Sky's Contract Refusal

via lastwordonprowrestling.com

If you know Reby Sky, or Reby Hardy, you most likely know her as the wife of Matt Hardy and her appearances on TNA television during her husband and brother in law's Broken saga. What you may not know is that she was a star and a wrestler in her own right outside of husband Matt's Broken Brilliance. Before she was with TNA she hosted a wrestling show for MTV called Lucha Libre USA. While with the company she was approached by WWE to become a part of their developmental program. Due to commitments she had made to Lucha Libre she decided against it, but imagine where she may be right now if she had taken WWE up on their offer.

12 Nikki Cross's Homophobic Outburst

via wwe.com

This time last year Nikki Cross hadn't yet found her place in NXT. I actually saw her perform at Download Festival in the UK twice in one day and during the first show she was a face then later in the day she was playing a heel. Fast forward to now however and she's a hot prospect on the show as a part of the talented faction Sanity. One particular action from Nikki at a house show recently however could have so easily caused all of that to go away, and she can count herself lucky that she's still a member of the outlandish group. While she was on the apron during a tag match Cross responded to a raucous crowd who were chanting at her and her partner with a not so pleasant comment, referring to them as faggots. According to those in attendance you could tell by the look on her face that she instantly realized what she had said, and luckily WWE seem to have given her the benefit of the doubt.

11 Paige's Suspensions

via wrestlingnewsworld.com

Former WWE Divas Champion Paige is an incredible talent, that is without question. The past 18 months of her life however have seen the Brit make some questionable decisions. That's why she will unfortunately be making a couple of appearances on this list. This first entry relates to her suspension under WWE's Wellness Policy. It's still unclear what Paige took or did to earn herself a suspension, but like everyone else she suffered the company's wrath and was handed a 30 day hiatus. Before she managed to return Paige was busted under the wellness policy for a second time, this time receiving a 60 day suspension due to it being a second offence. Whether it was for the same thing or not, you think she would have been extra cautious, especially at that particular time.

10 Sunny's Jail Time

via youtube.com

She may be known as Tammy Lynn Sytch now, but wrestling fans will forever know her as Sunny. Sunny was basically the original WWE Diva. The woman that started it all and opened the door to that period of time for females in WWE. Since leaving the business though, especially in recent years, it's been a rocky road for Tammy. She starred in some adult films, but it's her more recent misdemeanors that land her on this list. In 2012 Sytch was arrested five times in the space of four weeks for a number of different crimes including burglary. The following year she violated a protective order and actually spent some time in prison. Since that time up until now she continues to break the law and subsequently is in and out of jail an awful lot for various reasons.

9 Sable Leaving WWE

via wwe.com

While Sunny began the Divas era in WWE, Sable was the one who attached a rocket to it and took the division into the stratosphere. Her presence in the company played an extremely important part in WWE's Attitude Era and she was a key player in their Monday Night War with WCW. In 1999 Sable left the company in an attempt to make it on her own outside of WWE, although her story is very different to when The Bellas attempted to do so. Her time away from the company began with her suing WWE for sexual harassment and unsafe work conditions. Following the case's conclusion Sable tried her hand at a number of different ventures. She appeared on talk shows, wrote an autobiography, she even created a comic book with herself as the super hero. Like almost everyone else though she eventually returned to WWE four years later in 2003.

8 Eva Marie's Suspension

via sheknows.com

Eva Marie's current status in WWE could actually be contributed to a couple of the issues already mentioned in this list. As of the time of typing this we have not seen Eva in a WWE ring for an awfully long time. If you take a look at her social media it's pretty plain to see like Sable and The Bellas previously failed to do, Marie is currently trying to make a name for herself without the help of WWE. As of yet it would be unfair to say that's a bad decision but at the moment she is technically still an employee of WWE so still has that going for her. The bad decision that lands her on this list is something she has in common with Paige. The original reason she became absent from WWE was after she was suspended under their Wellness Policy. Unlike Paige, Eva has only suffered the one 30 day banishment but whatever it was that earned her that suspension has kept her off of WWE television ever since.

6 Lita's Love Triangle

via therichest.com

Lita had an incredible pro wrestling career that has deservedly landed her in the WWE Hall of Fame. She probably doesn't regret many of the decisions she made along the way. One she might wish she could take back though is dating Edge while she was still romantically involved with Matt Hardy. At the very least she'll regret that WWE ever got wind of it. If you thought breaking up with someone you still work with was awkward, imagine doing it when the guy you left him for is working with you also. Then WWE decided to cash in on the reality of it and make an angle out of the whole thing. Lita's dirty laundry ended up being aired in front of a live audience, both literally and figuratively.

5 Mickie James' Crude Gestures

via wwe.com

As I mentioned in a previous entry, Mickie James' time with WWE long pre dates her latest run. In fact her first run began in the build to WrestleMania 22 where she battled Trish Stratus for the Women's Championship. At that time James played the intriguing character of a crazed fan who had gotten a little obsessed with Trish. When they squared off at The Showcase of the Immortals Mickie decided to go into business for herself in a bid to impress Vince McMahon in a bizarre way. James aggressively grabbed her opponent's crotch and also looked down the camera and made a gesture symbolizing something crude that she insinuated she wanted to do to Trish. When she got back stage Vince was less than happy and needless to say she hasn't visited that well again since.

4 Alundra Blayze Throwing The Title In The Bin

via wwe.com

There was a lot of hopping back and forth between WWE and WCW for many Superstars throughout the 1990s. A lot of the time wrestlers would show up on WCW when many people, including Vince McMahon himself, thought that they were still under contract with WWE. One of the most infamous instances of that happening was when then WWE Women's Champion showed up on Monday Nitro with her title still in hand. On camera Blayze picked up a bin and threw the championship into it in what was an ultimate slap in the face to her former employers. It was a decision that got her black balled from WWE for 20 years until Vince considered it water under the bridge and placed her in the Hall of Fame.

3 Charlotte Flair's Leaked Photos

via independent.com

The last couple of years have played a host to a spate of celebrity photos being leaked. Actors, sports stars and yes, even wrestlers have been victims of the hackers. Nowadays anything you do with your phone is backed up in The Cloud. Most of the time that's actually pretty handy as if you break your phone you don't lose anything as all your photos and data are saved elsewhere. If you're a celebrity with nude photos on your phone though, maybe not so handy. You would think with how often it's been happening anyone famous would simply delete anything they don't want the public seeing from their phone. Well Charlotte Flair will be wishing she had done that. The four time Women's Champion is the latest WWE Superstar to have her photos leaked. Hopefully she will be the one the others finally learn from and everyone else will take a little more care.

2 Chyna's Adult Film Career

via nbcnews.com

In 2016 the wrestling world lost perhaps the most famous female star it ever created, Chyna. The Eighth Wonder of the World passed away at just 46, and in the time between her leaving WWE and her untimely death she made a lot of pretty poor choices. The one that makes this list is her foray into the adult film industry. Over the course of a number of years she created a number of adult films, some of them with the help of her friend and former partner X-Pac. Ultimately it's those films that are holding up Chyna's deserved induction into the Hall of Fame. When questioned about it following her passing WWE COO Triple H admitted that he didn't want children searching for her online after hearing about her on WWE television in fear of what they might find.

1 Paige's Leaked Photos and Videos

via youtube.com

I did warn you that Paige would be making another appearance on this list, although you probably would have guessed that anyway. If you thought the photos that were leaked from Charlotte Flair's phone were bad, then you've clearly not heard about what Paige had to suffer through. Not just photos of the former Divas' Champion were leaked but also videos. Sex tapes that also featured and thus incriminated other WWE talents and former Superstars. All of this going on at the same time as her Wellness Policy suspensions, surgery and a relationship with Alberto Del Rio that has raised a lot of eyebrows. Either Paige is pro wrestling's worst decision maker or she has just had a life's worth of bad luck in the space of 18 months.
