If you thought WWE 2K20 was bad, rumors surrounding what is currently going on at 2K HQ would suggest next year's offering will be so much worse.

WWE video games have been getting a bad rap for a while. Ever since 2K took over the reins from THQ each offering has felt a little cookie cutter. As if the rosters are being updated every 12 months but not much else. The animosity towards 2K and its WWE video games reached a whole new level two months ago.

WWE 2K20 had a lot more wrong with it than it just feeling like the previous year's game. 2K somehow managed to roll everything back. The gameplay, the graphics, its online features. The game has been slated online and now all of the developers' efforts need to go into trying to fix it from afar via patches and updates. An impossible task to complete.

Many fans probably feel as if no one at 2K HQ actually cares, and next year's offering will be just as bad if not worse. That might be half true. According to Justin Leeper, who worked as a writer on the SmackDown vs. Raw series of video games, some employees care so much that they have quit. Leeper didn't quote an exact number, but is of the belief that a number of people in the double digits walked out for no other reason than they no longer want their names associated with the WWE 2K games.

Staff turnover might actually be a good thing. Fresh eyes and ideas to breathe new life into WWE 2K21. The trouble is, as Leeper also reports in the video above, any new employees will have a lot less money to work with. The budget for 2K21 has reportedly been slashed due to 2K20's poor sales, meaning WWE 2K might be in a spiral it can't escape from.

Although people leaving or losing their jobs is rarely a good thing, 2K has had this coming for a few years. It has banked on fans coming back each year and blindly paying for a game that is almost identical to the one released the year before, and the year before that. If all of the above is true, it will either lead to 2K actually putting some effort into the next game, or handing the franchise off to someone who will do it more justice.
