Rumors are circulating that WWE 2K is not producing a video game this year, and there's plenty of evidence to suggest those rumors are true.

It has been six months since what was a pretty disastrous release of WWE 2K20. We get that video games can be released unfinished in this day and age thanks to updates and patches, but 2K took that to the extreme. To call the game half-finished on release day would have probably been a compliment. It was deemed so bad by so many that the tragic quickly became laughable as memes and videos of gameplay flooded social media.

2K has tried to fix the game's many issues since then and has managed it to some degree. However, in other ways, it has made the game even worse. When 2019 turned into 2020 on New Year's Eve, the game literally became unplayable for some bizarre reason. Pretty ironic considering the game literally has 2K20 in its name.

Many WWE game fans have called for 2K to take a year off. To focus on a better game in 2021 rather than another rushed one later this year. According to Justin Leeper, who was the narrative leader for some of WWE games' Road to WrestleMania series, that is actually happening. "I heard from a reliable source, and I really believe it, that WWE 2K21 was canceled. There will be no game this year," Leeper revealed in a video to his followers.

Wrestling fans on Reddit aren't so sure about the credibility of Leeper's statement, especially since he hasn't worked on a WWE video game since 2011. However, there are other indicators that there is no game coming this year. WWE tends to reveal that there will be a new game for the first time at WrestleMania each year. One week on from WrestleMania 36 and there has been no such ad.

On top of that, 2K has normally started working with wrestlers on motion capture for the game by this point in the year. Not only has there been no mention of that so far this year, but due to the COVID-19 outbreak that might not even be possible. This all might be a blessing in disguise for 2K, although since it might be contractually obliged to release at least one game a year, fans could see something unique from them if 2K21 doesn't happen.
