It is perhaps the biggest news that United Kingdom fans have been given since they found out that SummerSlam would be in the UK in 1992. It has been made official that WWE is going to hold a UK Championship Tournament in January 2017.
The Tournament will be held over two nights and will see sixteen of the best wrestling stars in the UK fight it out to become the first ever United Kingdom Champion. A title for the winner has already been created and has received a positive reaction from many of the WWE Universe:
Wrestlers included in the tournament include 19-year-old Tyler Bate, Joseph Conners, Pete Dunn, Trent Seven, and Jordan Devlin.
Triple H appeared at the press conference today to reveal the plan for the show that will appear on the WWE Network.
"Our passionate UK fans deserve to have their own champion. The tournament is the next step in our ongoing strategy to develop another brand that engages our passionate fans, and add a new dimension to our on-going storylines. There's no reason why it can't be as big as Raw, Smackdown or NXT."
It will be interesting to see if the United Kingdom Championship is defended on WWE TV and if this will now push WWE to sign more British Superstars to their main two brands to then compete for the newly unveiled title.
