One WWE storyline that people still openly mock today came during the Attitude Era with the Higher Power. This angle has received numerous memes, mainly with Vince McMahon's maniacal face as he reveals that it was him all along. However, when looking at the angle in hindsight, none of it makes sense.

It all started with Undertaker wanting to form his own faction and then feuding with the Corporation, a faction beholden to the WWE's big bosses. Eventually, it turned into a very controversial moment when the Corporate Ministry kidnapped Stephanie McMahon and prepared her for a ritual sacrifice. By the time Vince revealed he was the Higher Power, things wound down quickly, and the angle died.

9 Undertaker Forms Ministry Of Darkness

The angle officially started in early 1999 when Undertaker formed the Ministry of Darkness, a faction emphasizing Undertaker's darker aspects. It involved things like rituals and sacrifices, and his followers seemed like a dark Satanic cult.

The original members included names like Bradshaw (JBL), Farooq (Ron Simmons), Mideon, Viscera, and The Brood (Gangrel, Edge, and Christian). Undertaker abducted most of the members and seemingly brainwashed and transformed them into evil beings.

The Ministry of Darkness then began a feud with Vince McMahon and his Corporation. It was an unusual faction vs. faction feud between two heel groups. The feud began when Mr. McMahon said that Undertaker had gone too far and was living his gimmick.

McMahon forced Undertaker to battle Kane (part of the Corporation) in an Inferno Match to make a point of it, but that match led to the start of what would become the Higher Power storyline.

Mr. McMahon was sitting at ringside watching the Inferno Match. However, midway through the bout, Paul Bearer showed up with a package he delivered to Mr. McMahon. Undertaker beat Kane by setting his leg on fire, and then McMahon opened the package to find a teddy bear in it.

Undertaker took the bear and lit it on fire as McMahon broke into tears. It was a teddy bear that belonged to his daughter Stephanie McMahon when she was a child.

This led to another moment that became a meme years later. Undertaker said that he answered to a greater power that holds the key to McMahopn's heart and soul. They burned a giant crucifix shaped like Undertaker's symbol on the front lawn of McMahon's home. Undertaker started sacrificing people, including Ken Shamrock's sister Ryan.

The biggest moment came when Undertaker battled Ken Shamrock at Backlash 1999 and won the match. After the match. Mr. McMahon told Stephanie to leave, but Undertaker revealed himself from the driver's seat and abducted her when she got into her limo.

Mr. McMahon was trying everything he could to stop Undertaker when this turned personal. He sent his own men after him in Ken Shamrock, Big Boss Man, and Big Show. Undertaker hung Boss Man at WrestleMania, beat Shamrock at Backlash, and even stopped Big Show.

Then, McMahon asked Stone Cold Steve Austin to help him. It was the moment that caused Shane McMahon to undertake a hostile takeover of The Corporation and join forces with Undertaker to form the Corporate Ministry.

The Ministry tried to sacrifice Stephanie McMahon, tying her to the giant crucifix that looked like Undertaker's symbol and then preparing her for the Black Wedding with Undertaker.

It was disturbing, but it ended when Stone Cold Steve Austin ran into the ring and saved her. Austin officially joined Mr. McMahon in trying to rid WWE of Undertaker and his followers.

3 Vince McMahon Is The Higher Power

Then, The Corporate Ministry finally said they would reveal who the Higher Power was. This was someone that Undertaker had been taking orders from since the start and who pulled all the strings of the entire faction. The Higher Power was originally supposed to be Christopher Daniels but ended up as Mr. McMahon instead.

Things went off the rails at this point. McMahon said it was him all along, and that he did this because he wanted to get the title off Stone Cold, but when the Ministry of Darkness started talking about the Higher Power, The Rock was the champion, and he was with McMahon. It made no sense.

2 Linda And Stephanie McMahon Gave Their Shares Of WWE To Stone Cold

The worst part came next. Immediately after Mr. McMahon revealed he was the Higher Power, and this was just minutes after that moment, Stephanie McMahon came out and asked why her dad did this to her. Vince seemed sad at first, but then Linda McMahon came out and said they have sold their shares of WWE and transferred their 50-percent of the power to Stone Cold Steve Austin earlier that day.

If no one knew McMahon was the Higher Power, why did they make this move before the reveal? It was another hint that this was not thoroughly thought out.

1 Stone Cold Loses Power But Wins Back Title To End Angle

Just two weeks after Stone Cold was given 50-percent of the power in WWE, he lost it in a match to Mr. McMahon and Shane McMahon. Soon, the entire Corporate Ministry dissolved, and Undertaker moved on to team with Big Show while Mc. McMahon and Austin continued their feud.

Austin finally won the WWE Title back, Undertaker quit the group rather than following orders by McMahon, and the entire Higher Power angle ended.
