In typical WWE style, apparently, Vince McMahon has decided that certain words and phrases are not to be used during the COVID-19 pandemic that is sweeping the globe and affecting the WWE Universe.

Bryan Alvarez revealed on the post-RAW Wrestling Observer Radio show that words Coronavirus and COVID-19 may be on the banned list. Furthermore, that the company has intentionally not said the words on any of the shows that have aired since the company moved to the WWE Performance Center.

Why that is remains unclear but it seems clear WWE and its stars are avoiding the phrases.

Alvarez notes that instead of using the terms, WWE talents simply referred to [the pandemic] as "prevailing circumstances". That was the common terminology throughout the shows. He added that he's not surprised considering that, in the past, WWE has added many odd words, terms, and phrases to their prohibited list and "coronavirus" seems to be the latest entrant.

With the changes WWE has been making to its programming and their uncertainty around how to proceed with empty-arena matches, there is a lot up in the air at this time. What they seem to be clear on, is that using the most trending topics in the world right now is not high on their want list.

Why WWE Is Banning The Words

There could be a number of reasons for this mandate, from trying not to focus on an issue that is frequently got fans worried, to the social media aspect of the virus. Facebook, for example, has banned a number of articles related to the terms, and no one seems to know why. Perhaps WWE is concerned about having their content remain viewable.

There is also the emphasis it brings to what the future means for WWE and other sports. Right now, WrestleMania is a major question mark for the company and using the words may only remind fans that things are gloomy on that event's front.

Then again, it could just be Vince being Vince.
