Let's be honest, WWE's history isn't overflowing with great storylines for its Black superstars. It's always been very difficult for Black wrestlers to breakout and get main event opportunities. It's one of the reasons Kofi Kingston's WWE Championship win at WrestleMania was so special.

Looking at the current roster is amazing because there are so many spectacular Black superstars. Trying to narrow it down to the top 10 was extremely difficult. We factored in TV time, storylines, and big match appearances, which meant those who've been injured or not on TV in a while didn't make the cut this time. These are the 10 best Black wrestlers currently on WWE's roster.

10 STREET PROFITS

Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins are one of WWE's most exciting and entertaining tag teams. In NXT, we saw them put on awesome matches against Undisputed Era and The Viking Raiders. Ford's gravity-defying athleticism combined with Dawkins' ridiculous power makes their matches unpredictable in the best possible way.

Their move to Raw hasn't given them many chances to show off their in-ring ability. However, everyone has gotten to see their personalities in backstage segments, which have made them fan favorites. We're really hoping 2020 is a big year for the Profits, because we want the smoke.

9 VELVETEEN DREAM

With respect to "The Fiend," there is no superstar in WWE more unique than Velveteen Dream. A crazy blend of Prince and Ravishing Rick Rude, Dream backs up his over the top character work with solid technique and crowd-pleasing moves.

It seems absolutely crazy now, but once upon a time, Patrick Clark was voted off Tough Enough because he wasn't displaying more personality. With his always creative ring gear, Dream is still trolling Hulk Hogan about that. At just 24, Dream is the future of WWE.

8 MIA YIM

Mia Yim burst on the WWE scene during the 2017 Mae Young Classic, developing an instant connection with fans. Her feud with Shayna Baszler gave the HBIC a chance to show everyone just how tough she is. She displayed a more aggressive side to her character that helped her stand out.

In the lead up to NXT TakeOver: WarGames and Survivor Series, Yim was part of an amazing ladder match with Kay Lee Ray that became her breakout moment. As some of the veterans of NXT move on to Raw or SmackDown, it would be cool to see Yim establish herself as the brand's newest heel or anti-hero.

7 R-TRUTH

R-Truth WWE 24/7 Championship

People often underestimate the brilliance of R-Truth and it's time that stopped. The man can make any match or segment, no matter how mundane, hilarious. There are a lot of guys who can show up and throw someone around the ring, but it takes real comedic genius to captivate a crowd by talking to your imaginary sidekick.

Let's also not forget that Truth is extremely talented in the ring. If he couldn't back up the jokes with good matches, his gimmick wouldn't still work. His ability to change and evolve while still being the Truth we all love is the secret to his longevity.

6 BIANCA BELAIR

Black women are often told to quiet down and not be so confident about their greatness. Bianca Belair put everyone on notice by letting them know she's the EST. Meaning she's the strongest, greatest, and best at everything. She then got in the ring and backed it all up.

Among her many impressive accolades is the fact that she has routinely topped the standings at NXT's Combine, winning the 2019 edition in dominating fashion. For an athlete of her caliber, with a strong personality the fans gravitate to, there is no ceiling on her future.

5 KEITH LEE

Often times WWE superstars are put into a box of what kind of wrestler they can be. Strong and powerful, mat technician or high flyer. Keith Lee is the rare athlete who can do it all. When his music hits, fans know they’re about to see something special.

Leading up to WarGames and Survivor Series, Lee had several breakout moments, finally establishing himself as a main event star and instant GIF machine. As the NXT North American Champion, Lee has really begun to showcase his personality. We know it won’t be long before he is facing off against the company’s top names at its biggest shows.

4 RICOCHET

Ricochet flying in the air

When we watch action movies, there are certain things we just know aren’t real, because they’re not physically possible for humans to do. Then we watch Ricochet in the ring, and think “ok, not possible for most humans.” It’s not just his gravity-defying work that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats, it’s the creativity in how he uses every square inch of the ring.

He’s had some great matches against AJ Styles and Drew McIntyre, but we’re still waiting for Ricochet to get to the next level. All that’s missing is the right opportunity to have that star-making moment.

3 BIG E

From the moment we met him in NXT, we knew there was something special about Big E. He has that star quality that can captivate entire arenas with just a look. Once he joined Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, he was able to let his true personality shine, and it was love at first sight for fans.

No matter how entertaining he is on the mic, none of that would have mattered if he wasn’t amazing in the ring. His unbelievable strength, coupled with his technique, fearlessness and yes, flexibility have fans consistently clamoring for the day when Big E grabs singles gold.

2 NAOMI

Fans have watched Naomi evolve from a backup dancer to a two time champion, so they feel personally connected to her. Her return at Royal Rumble produced one of the biggest ovations of the night and made her a viral sensation to new fans.

As spectacular as she is in the ring, her real power comes from the fact that she is so beautifully, unapologetically herself, a Black woman. Her ring gear features colorful patterns and her hair changes to fit her style. Having lasted through the Divas era into the women's revolution has made Naomi an icon of the strength and power of Black women.

1 KOFI KINGSTON

Without Kofi Kingston we wouldn't have been able to have this list. He planted the seeds that today's Black wrestlers are benefitting from. Frankly, we don't have space to list all of his accomplishments, but the way the WWE Universe rallied behind him during KofiMania should tell you how special he is.

He had an excellent career before The New Day, however, teaming up with Big E and Xavier Woods took him to new levels. There aren't enough words to describe how game-changing and groundbreaking Kofi is, but we're pretty sure first ballot hall of famer are five of them.
