Jinder Mahal was set to face Universal Champion Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series, but dropped his WWE title to AJ Styles on SmackDown two weeks ago. As such, the Phenomenal One got a match against Lesnar instead, but lost via pinfall to The Beast.

Original plans were for Mahal to get his rematch for the championship on tonight's episode of SmackDown, but it appears as though the WWE has scrapped that match. On its official Instagram page, WWE shared a video of Mahal expressing his disappointment in Styles losing to Lesnar, and vowed to soon become a two-time WWE Champion:

As Marc Middleton of WrestlingInc.com pointed out, SmackDown didn't advertise a Mahal vs. Styles title match, likely assuring that the folks of Houston will not see these two in the main event.

However, Styles is set to defend his title against Mahal at Starrcade this Saturday - inside a Steel Cage. It wouldn't make much sense for WWE to have the two men face off for the Championship twice in two days.

The Modern Day Maharaja held the title for 170 days, before losing it to Styles. Recent speculation from Dave Meltzer has mentioned that Mahal could reclaim his title heading into WWE's India tour, which is slated for Dec. 9.

Prior to dropping the title, Mahal had beaten top talents including John Cena and Randy Orton to keep the championship. Mahal's title reign was criticized by some, given his limited wrestling ability and character that some may deem racist and offensive.

Mahal has been promoted as a "two-time" WWE Champion for the India tour, so it's likely that he'll regain the title at some point over the next couple of weeks. But the early indications are that Styles will still be holding the title belt after tonight's episode of SmackDown includes. Stay tuned.
