In kayfabe, the WWE Championship is the most prestigious title in wrestling today. It has been held by such greats as The Rock, Stone Cold, John Cena, Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, CM Punk, AJ Styles, Bret Hart among others, but has also been held by guys like Jinder Mahal, so that’s a very up and down history. No matter what’s happened to the belt over the years, whether it be its many changes in form or how WWE has disrespected it, it’s remained important to the company and all the fans watching, and January 26, 2018 marked the day that the WWE Championship belt had been around for 20,000 days.

Way back in 1963, Buddy Rogers won the first WWE Championship, and 20,000 day’s later, it’s held by The Phenomenal, AJ Styles. To say it’s had its ups and downs over the years is certainly an understatement. It’s changed appearance almost as much as it’s changed hands in the almost 55 years of existence, with the Winged Eagle belt from the Attitude Era being the favorite of many fans, but like wrestling itself, we all have our favorites.

In that time, a total of 50 wrestlers have held the prestigious Championship, with John Cena holding the record for 13 different reigns, and Bruno Sammartino holding the record for most days, with a whopping 4,040 days with the belt in hand, which is 1/5th of its existence. With the good comes the bad however, and we’ve seen guys like Vince McMahon, Diesel and Jinder Mahal call the belt their own, but no matter what, it will always be the most important Championship in the WWE.
