CM Punk may very well be one of the biggest wrestlers of all time, but he is an incredibly private person. Unlike the vast majority of wrestlers who share everything on social media, the former WWE Champion has always kept himself to himself.

However, that doesn't mean that Punk never got along with people, as he has always come across as a very likeable person in videos, with some of his closest friends coming from the wrestling business. While he may have sadly fallen out with his former best friend Colt Cabana, there are many names he is surprisingly friends with. In this article, we will list 10 of those surprising friendships.

10 Bret Hart

The Hitman and CM Punk may not have been part of the same era of professional wrestling, but that doesn't mean anything as the two men hit it off and formed a friendship from whenever Bret Hart was around backstage.

Hart was one of few people who actually publicly stuck up for Punk during his decision to leave WWE, showing the respect that they had and they have hung out since with their respective partners. It is cool to know that the two men managed to get along so well, despite being from different eras, with two of the all-time greats sharing a bond.

9 Kassius Ohno

Just because they never got to work in WWE together doesn't mean they're not good friends, as Kassius Ohno is actually one of CM Punk's best friends in the wrestling industry. Their friendship dates back to the start of their careers on the independent scene and has remained ever since. Punk even refused to work for an indie company due to how they treated Ohno.

Something many people don't know is that CM Punk actually wanted Ohno to be the third member of The Shield rather than Roman Reigns, as the group was originally slated to be his protectors.

8 Cain Velasquez

Granted, these two men actually became friends through MMA and UFC in particular, rather than through wrestling, but Cain Velasquez is now a part of the wrestling industry and this is a friendship many won't be aware of.

Punk and Velasquez bonded following his decision to leave WWE and join UFC, with Cain being someone he looked to get advice from as he started his career in a brand new sport. The two men stayed close since Punk's UFC career, with Cain Velasquez actually revealing that he got a ton of advice from CM Punk before joining WWE, proving he isn't as sour about the wrestling industry as people think he is.

7 Kofi Kingston

This could be one that more people are aware of as Kofi Kingston himself has been open and discussed the fact they are close friends in interviews, but CM Punk and the New Day member are very good buddies.

Kingston is one of few wrestlers that Punk has stayed in very close contact with since leaving WWE because the two men became so close during their time together in the company. Both men were part of WWE's version of ECW, and since then they remained close with the two men often travelling around together long before Kingston started up with the New Day.

6 Young Bucks

CM Punk's friendship with the Young Bucks is something that has been discussed frequently since AEW became a promotion as everyone hoped that connection would lead Punk back into the wrestling business. Of course, that hasn't happened yet, but their friendship has remained, which might surprise some people simply because they were apart for so long due to CM Punk's career in WWE.

They do seem to be very different in terms of how they live their lives as well, with Punk being very reserved and the 'Bucks sharing a lot of details, but they bonded on their rise to the top of wrestling and stayed close ever since.

5 Chris Jericho

Most people are surprised to learn that CM Punk and Chris Jericho became such close friends simply because of the fact that Punk is straightedge while Jericho is known as someone who loves to party hard.

However, the two men bonded during their excellent WWE feud and became close ever since, with a shared love for rock and roll and wrestling itself. However, the two stopped talking after Punk left WWE. Jericho revealed that they didn't speak after Punk's exit, even when Jericho wanted him on his podcast. It's currently unknown if they have stayed in contact or not.

4 The Rock

People seem to think that because of the feud between CM Punk and The Rock and the fact that Punk was very vocal about The Rock facing John Cena for a second year in a row at WrestleMania, that they hate each other.

Punk revealed recently in interviews that he and The Rock actually do get along and even remain in contact to this day, occasionally speaking to each other through text and phone calls. While Punk might not have agreed with Dwayne Johnson's booking, he certainly respected him as an athlete and the two ended up having mutual respect over the others work ethic.

3 John Cena

Much like The Rock, because CM Punk cut promos that touched on real topics about John Cena and his frustrations with how he was booked, everyone seems to think that Punk hates him.

However, that couldn't be farther from the truth as any interview Punk does about wrestling, he often ends up praising Cena as someone who he loved working with inside the ring. While the two men aren't likely hanging out on a weekly basis, they have remained friendly since Punk walked away from the business, which likely is surprising to many.

2 Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio is one of those wrestlers that CM Punk has always had a massive amount of respect and love for, and has never had a bad word to say about during any interview he has ever conducted. Punk recently stated that he could get into a ring with Rey Mysterio right now and they could put on a great match without even talking because their chemistry was just that good.

It might not be a huge surprise to learn that the duo are friends, because there doesn't seem to be anybody in wrestling that doesn't like Rey Mysterio due to him being such a nice person.

1 Brock Lesnar

Now this one is likely a surprise simply because Brock Lesnar is such a private person that everyone just thinks his only friend is Paul Heyman due to how he has been booked throughout his WWE career.

However, Punk and Lesnar do actually get along very well. Their friendship likely started due to their mutual connection with Paul Heyman, who is incredibly close to both of them. With both having a deep love for MMA and professional wrestling, they got on very well, but it just isn't a friendship that has been pushed publicly so it isn't talked about as much.
