Though this year's edition of Survivor Series will see WWE Champion Jinder Mahal take on Universal Champion Brock Lesnar, The Modern Day Maharaja has one more major test before his bout with The Beast.
On his Twitter page, SmackDown commissioner Shane McMahon announced that Mahal would be putting his title on the line against AJ Styles on next Tuesday's episode.
For those of you who missed it, The Phenomenal One defeated Samir Singh on Tuesday's episode of SmackDown. Mahal and the Singh Brothers then retaliated by viciously attacking Styles. As such, Mahal will have to risk going into his match against Lesnar without a belt.
Though there haven't been any spoilers released (yet), about who will win the match, it's tough to envision Mahal dropping the belt and falling to Styles. It would lose him plenty of momentum, and the feud vs. Lesnar would lose plenty of steam.
Styles was to face Rusev next week for a spot on the SmackDown roster, so we'll have to see how the WWE goes about this booking now.
Ravens also noted that The Usos are set to defend their SmackDown Tag Team Championships against Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable, meaning the folks of Manchester will be seeing a handful of enticing matches in this one.
Mahal has been the WWE Champion since defeating Randy Orton at the Backlash pay-per-view event back in May. He's successfully defended the title against top stars like Orton, Baron Corbin, and Shinsuke Nakamura.
WWE has pushed hard to get Mahal over as a legitimate champion, and he'll have the prime opportunity to do so if he ends up defeating Styles and/or Lesnar. Though some fans may not be sold on Mahal has a worthy main event guy/champion, the creative team seems big on making him a top star. We'll see if he continues his success against two of the WWE's top superstars.
