Like any other sport, wrestling gets a renewed cast every now and then. Sure, there are the people who manage to stay at the top for very long stretches, as was the case with Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair and a few others back in their day. Or as is the case with John Cena and Brock Lesnar today. But aside from guys like these, the movement when it comes to people being fired and signed in a promotion as prolific and ever-changing as the WWE is massive. Sometimes we don’t even hear about a wrestler for a very long time only to find out that he or she has been fired almost a year ago.

That being said, it is not like people getting fired from the WWE is usually a fair deal. Much on the contrary, you will find countless instances of people who were fired for ridiculous reasons. Be it someone’s vanity or doing something as ordinary as trying to get  extra income from another industry, people have been fired for almost everything by Vince McMahon and his management crew. On this list, we will talk a little bit about folks who did not deserve to get fired at all, especially in the way they did. Usually, when someone gets let go from a job, it happens because they did something to offend a co-worker or their boss. But in the WWE, you can get fired even if you have done nothing wrong or worse, if someone has done something bad to you. But we are not hypocrites, so we will also include a few instances in which people really did deserve to get fired by the WWE.

15 No Good Reason: Chyna

via pinterest.com

We have to start with this one because it was arguably one of the most tragic occurrences in the history of wrestling. We all know the end of this story, but it doesn’t hurt to remind everyone how Chyna’s life began spiraling down. She seemed happy in the WWE, especially while she was dating Triple H. Nevertheless, she claimed that her then-boyfriend had an affair with the boss’s daughter.

It is common knowledge that Triple H went on to leave Chyna and eventually marry Stephanie McMahon. But that was just the tip of the iceberg.

The WWE claimed it was her decision to leave, but the former wrestler was adamant in saying that she was pushed out. And there was no reason other than that Vince McMahon’s daughter stole her boyfriend.

14 No Good Reason: Matt Hardy

via cloudfront.net

Since we are on the topic of cheating, let’s take a stride down memory lane and remember another wrestler who got fired not because he cheated on someone, but because someone cheated on him. Yes, you all remember the love triangle train wreck that took place back in 2005 involving Matt Hardy, Edge, and Lita. Hardy and Lita had been on a relationship for quite a while, and everyone knew about it. Edge also happened to be married to Lisa Ortiz at that time. Nevertheless, this did not stop Edge and Lita from getting close, and in one fateful day, Matt checked her text messages and found Edge telling his girlfriend he loved her.

As any rational person would imagine, Matt Hardy did not react so nicely when he found out about this. It got to the point where the WWE was worried about everyone’s physical integrity. But their decision was unfair, to say the least, as they fired the one guy who did nothing wrong.

13 Deserved: Austin Aries

via wwe.com

How can you argue with a guy when he himself says that he probably deserved to be fired from the WWE? Hey, we are not going to argue with Austin Aries. In retrospective, the guy did seem like he could be a catch for the promotion for his experience, his athleticism and the potential he showed early on. He ultimately lasted less than two years in the WWE. The main reason that was given for his firing was that the creative department could not find something to do with him, which is clearly a bad excuse since they have found ways to work with worse wrestlers.

The truth seems to be that several factors were weighed in for him to get fired.

There was the fact that Austin didn’t seem to be happy with where he was, but especially because he was allegedly causing mayhem in the locker room and was disliked by a lot of people.

12 No Good Reason: Emma

via wwe.com

Emma has now been released twice by WWE, but her first release only lasted a few hours. Unfortunately, Emma ran into a little mishap at Walmart when she was caught with an iPad case that she hasn't paid for. Given the fact that it was only $21 and Emma was a well-paid WWE Superstar it's easy to think it was simply a matter of Emma forgetting to scan the item at the self-checkout. (kind of reminds us of Marge Simpson getting arrested for taking a bourbon bottle, right?).

Anyway, WWE decided to release Emma right away, rather than let the facts present themselves. The charges were dismissed after Emma performed a day of community service and took an online course. Ipad case closed.

11 No Good Reason: Francine

bia autographworld.com

When you work for a guy like Vince McMahon, you are subject to a few things that would not be allowed in any other company. That is especially true in the previous eras of the WWE. We are sure that there is not much when it comes to sexism that Vince would be able to get away with today, at least in comparison to what he did back in the day.

A perfect example of someone who got fired for a ridiculous reason is Francine, who was a fan-favorite and a good bet for the WWE when they tried to bring the ECW promotion back from the dead.

However, she did not last long, as Francine was eventually fired. No official reason was ever given, but the common knowledge around the industry is that she was let go because Vince didn’t think she was attractive enough to be a Diva.

10 Deserved: Vader

via youtube.com

We find it hard to defend guys who become liabilities whenever they are in the ring. At the end of the day everyone who watches it on television or goes to the shows wants to see the best kind of wrestling there is. And in order to have that kind of wrestling, you need the best wrestlers available, and you need them to be healthy. With that in mind, it becomes an easy decision to cut ties with whoever might become a liability to the well-being of other wrestlers. That was the case with Vader.

This guy had a lot of potential, which is usually true with people who are as big as he was. However, Vader became notorious for being stiff on the ring and endangering other wrestlers. He was ultimately fired because of a brawl backstage, but you can be sure that was not the only reason.

9 No Good Reason: Mickie James

via youtube.com

Since we were talking about things related to sexism that Vince McMahon supposedly would not be able to get away with today, we thought it would be a good idea to talk about how Mickie James was once fired from the WWE. This is about as ridiculous a story as wrestling rumors get. After she took the Women’s title from Michelle McCool, the world was ready for Mickie James to take over.

However, it doesn’t seem like the WWE was ready.

Even though they allowed the ridiculous Piggy James saga to end, they did not allow Mickie to reign.

Much on the contrary, they fired her because she allegedly held up travel while they were on tour overseas. But that was not the only reason. Apparently, the fact that her relationship with John Cena had ended, against her wishes, the WWE decided to keep their star happy by getting rid of an awkward situation backstage.

8 No Good Reason: Alberto Del Rio

via wwe.com

Even within an industry like wrestling, no one likes to get hit in the face. And physical violence outside of the ring should be taken very seriously even within wrestling. Once everyone is out of their characters, they should start acting like civilized human beings.

Following that logic, many people would say it was okay for the WWE to fire Alberto Del Rio after he smacked the hell out of another WWE employee who remained nameless.

However, sometimes you should be allowed to stand up for yourself. And one of those times is when someone acts in a racist manner. That was what happened with Alberto. An employee made a racist joke, and he reacted naturally by smacking the guy. You can’t fire someone for defending their honor.

7 Deserved: Cameron

via cagesideseats.com

We are not in the business of rewarding stupidity, and thankfully the WWE wasn’t either. It is not like Cameron was a household name or even that fans liked her. Much on the contrary, she was a subpar wrestler who did not in any way manage to attract the attention of fans. If you are someone in that kind of position, your go-to move should be to always side with the company in any crucial and controversial discussion. At least, that would be the way to go if you wanted to keep your job.

Apparently, this did not cross Cameron’s mind. She was already hanging by a thread when she decided to support Ryback while he bashed the WWE on social media and everywhere someone would listen to him. That is how she managed to get fired because of one tweet.

6 No Good Reason: Dawn Marie

via wwe.com

Here is one instance in which the rotten side of the wrestling world is very similar to the rotten side of all kinds of industries around the globe. It would be hypocritical for any man to say that women do not face more adversity than guys when it comes to interactions in the workplace and managing their time between home life and work life. Perhaps the best example of that is the idea of maternity leave. It doesn’t matter how conservative or liberal someone is, if there is one thing everyone agrees on it is that a woman should have some time to spend with her baby right after he or she is born.

A maternity leave without consequences was not what happened when Dawn Marie decided to take maternity leave from the WWE when she got pregnant.

They gave her the maternity leave, but they also released her from her contract. Yes, she got fired for being pregnant.

5 No Good Reason: Paul London

via network.wwe.com

This is a classic. How many times would you be able to say that you saw or heard of someone getting fired because they smiled at the wrong time? Well, that is what happened to Paul London. The guy was one of the most entertaining wrestlers of his day. Sure, everyone loves the strong guys who can throw people in the air and everything, but Paul was different. He was an acrobat, and those are hard to come by, so it was ludicrous to see the WWE firing him because he smiled at the wrong time.

The background here is that during an episode of RAW, everything went bad for Vince McMahon and while he was walking to his limousine everyone was supposed to look respectful. Meanwhile, good old Paul was caught smiling, which resulted in WWE reducing him to jobber status, and ultimately firing him when creative had nothing more for him.

4 Deserved: Enzo Amore

via wwe.com

The WWE has implemented a no tolerance policy in recent years when it comes to domestic violence cases and of course, sexual misconduct cases. Enzo Amore faced some serious allegations by a woman due to an incident in a Phoenix hotel room back in October. The news broke right when WWE was set to celebrate their 25th anniversary of RAW which was bad timing on top of the serious allegations.

A police investigation had been ongoing concerning the case, but Enzo failed to inform WWE officials, and they were completely caught off guard when the story came to light.

Initially Enzo was suspended indefinitely, but just 24 hours later he was fired altogether. While the accusations against Enzo haven't been proven true yet, the fact that Enzo neglected or felt he didn't need to inform his employer of the matter was grounds for dismissal.

3 No Good Reason: Maria Kanellis

via newsweek.com

Here is another advice for everyone involved with wrestling. If you want to be a part of the WWE, you better be ready to make that your entire life because if you try to do anything else to get some extra cash, you run the risk of getting fired. At the least, that was how things were back when Maria Kanellis decided to try her hand at a singing career. She obviously thought she would be able to juggle both tasks, and maybe she would have been able to. However, management was not too happy with the fact that she was not devoting her entire life to wrestling.

The end result was that they fired one of the most popular women in the industry because she wanted to try for a singing career on the side.

2 No Good Reason: Bruce Prichard

via houstonpress.com

If you like old-school WWE and WWF, you owe a lot of what you have watched to a guy named Bruce Prichard. Many people might remember Bruce for his ring names like Brother Love and Reo Rogers. But his real contribution to the wrestling world came behind the scenes as an advisor and one of the creative minds behind a lot of the storylines during his tenure with the WWE. Hell, he was even The Undertaker’s manager at some point, as Brother Love.

However, poor Bruce committed the one crime no one in the WWE is allowed to commit and come out unscathed. He butted heads with a McMahon.

The royalty in question was none other than Stephanie McMahon, who apparently was very controlling and vindictive when it came to her ideas being questioned. Poor Bruce was someone who regularly questioned those ideas, and he ended up getting the guillotine for that.

1 Deserved: Hulk Hogan

via sportskeeda.com

Hey, we already made a point of saying that Alberto Del Rio did not deserve to get fired for striking someone who offended him using a racial slur. So, it would be incredibly hypocritical of us to leave out Hogan from the list of people who deserved to get fired from the WWE. At the end of the day, this was another great decision by the company, as they sent a solid message to everyone everywhere. It doesn’t matter how famous or how legendary you are. If you are racist in any way and are caught spewing racial slurs toward anyone, you should be fired. There is no room for that kind of stuff in a regular workplace. So why should there be any room for it in a workplace that is watched by millions of people?
