It has been rumored for some time that SmackDown Live may find a new home come September 2019. Those rumors are getting louder as a report from The Wrap has cited Fox has closed a deal with WWE to attain the rights to the blue brand and air the show on the Fox network. The reported deal is worth more than $1 billion.

Fox had long been interested in grabbing one of the WWE's major shows and this deal — a five-year arrangement that will pay $205 million annually — proves just how much Fox was interested. Surprisingly, it is also being reported that this was not the most lucrative deal offered to WWE but the professional wrestling juggernaut took the deal so as to have the ability to cross-promote their show with some of Fox's already similar entertainment products like the NFL and MLB.

The report suggests Fox will not just move SmackDown Live from NBCUniversal and the USA Networks to Fox but move the show from Tuesdays to Fridays. WWE does not seem concerned to do so knowing their digital reach with their fanbase is massive and they've had their viewers switch night in the past with success. Should WWE have some trouble, $1 billion will buy a lot of promo space on the WWE Network to let the WWE Universe know the change is coming.

With the news that WWE was set to announce a new television deal in the near future, WWE stock had been hitting new highs. Today, it rose another $5 per share with the leak that the deal is worth over $1 billion. It helps too that NBCUniversal is set to pay three times what it had been to keep Raw on the USA Network. WWE shareholders and Vince McMahon are likely grinning ear to ear with the news.

As for how this might affect Fox' lineup of shows on Fridays,  currently, the network airs “Last Man Standing”, “The Cool Kids”, and “Hell’s Kitchen” from 8 pm- 10 pm. The report suggests these shows, should they be renewed for another season, will be moved to make space for SmackDown Live.
