The amount of awesomeness Edge and Christian have given us exceeds the number of great matches both have put on individually and collectively. In this case I have 15 lined up for you I'm certain will rock your world or will at least leave you questioning what you thought you knew.

Since Edge and Christian have gotten into the podcast game, they've joined the ranks of Chris Jericho, Tazz, Ric Flair and Stone Cold Steve Austin in creating compelling content for the fans from a wrestler's point of view. Their joint effort to entertain us outside the ring is like a real-life combination of The Peep Show and The Cutting Edge. As a listener myself, I vouch for them in regards to their claim of how awesome the show is, this not coming from an Edge and Christian fan, but one of wrestling and podcasts in general. So, if you're like me and have your list of favorite podcasts saved to your phone ready to deliver episodes as they come...then I'm sure Edge & Christian's ever expanding Pod of Awesomeness is bound to be on there. If not, perhaps it will be once you hear a few cool secrets revealed to the public.

15 Randy Orton Didn't Want To Defeat Christian For The Title

Via Pinterest.com

When Christian lost the world title in record time to Orton on his first defense that wasn't on PPV and long before SmackDown was live, fan anger and confusion caused fingers to point toward not only Vince McMahon, but Orton, who was deemed a true main eventer in company's eyes. If you were one of those fans who swore Orton used his backstage clout, then Christian himself would tell you that was the furthest from the true. According to him, the night he won the title, Vince and Edge were discussing plans for Christian, and part of those plans were for him to lose the title fairly quick, but Edge persuaded Vince to hold off on doing so as long as he could so his buddy could enjoy the night. When Orton got word that part of Vince's plan to extend the feud between them to SummerSlam involved Randy immediately beating Christian for the title, he turned down the idea.

Orton going along with it was being reminded how little star power the 2011 SmackDown roster had and that there needed to be a reason to ignite the feud and keep it going for as long as planned. During his September 2017 interview with the man he beat, the Viper went out and thanked Christian for telling the little known tale.

14 Beth Phoenix Unsure About Entering Women's Rumble

via pinterest.com

If you were excited to see Beth Phoenix return as one of the 30 participants in the first-ever women's Royal Rumble match then imagine knowing it almost didn't happen. According to no better source than Beth's husband Edge, she was uncertain returning for the revolutionary match was a good idea. Edge states Beth was contacted not long after giving birth to their child and doubted spending time away was the right thing to do. Issues such as looking presentable enough in ring gear and still having "it" were implied in Edge's comments regarding Beth's hesitance, but as we know...she listened to reason. The Rated R Superstar said he told Beth to not pass up a chance to make history, as there's only one first. Taking that into account as Edge eased her concerns, Beth decided to take the opportunity she was thrilled to be offered, one that resulted in her being the first female to participate in a men's (2010) and women's Rumble (2018)—which is history itself.

13 Kane Wanted To Unmask

Via WWE.com

I'm sure this may come as a surprise to many of you, it sure did to me. I'm willing to bet when we reminisce on the infamous Kane unmasking, we envision Kane being goaded to ditch the mask for whatever random reason creative, and Vince came up with for a rebooted version of Kane they planned to reintroduce. Half of this scenario is correct, according to what Kane said in regards to his first unmasking in 2003. The idea to unmask was his due to viewing it as a "hindrance" and wanting to be able to evolve the character—something like when Kane was allowed to talk without Paul Bearer. The only person on Kane's side was Vince himself, who was intrigued by the concept of an unmasked Kane. Creative and others backstage were heavily against it like many fans ended up being once it happened ,since much of the mystique and essence of the character was lost. Regardless what we think of the decision...Kane wanted it and considered his first maskless run a success. "Mask off, F it, mask off" was Kane's mentality.

12 No "Color" Allowed In Edge Vs The Undertaker Cell Match

Via Cagesideseats.com

Taker vs Edge arguably stole the star-studded show that was SummerSlam 2008. The feud had almost everything we grew to expect from Hell in a Cell matches – heavy weaponry, near falls, high impact spots—but no blood! This was something Edge himself was not happy about once Vince gave word that the first cell match of the PG era would contain no blood. Edge had stated he put together an epic conclusion to his feud with Taker and heavily anticipated the use of blood to add depth to the battle the two were prepared to have, but there was no talking Vince out of blood use, considering he told Edge that match would serve as the standard for future Hell in a Cell matches that needed to be much less gory than previously seen.

Although blood doesn't make a match better, it does enhance the visual that a hard fought battle is occurring, but despite not being able to use "color"as Edge referred to it as...the match was spectacular.

11 Plans For An Edge Vs Christian WrestleMania Match

via stillrealtous.com

When you think of classic matches Edge and Christian have been in at WrestleMania, matches like the Triangle ladder match at WrestleMania 16 and one of the most revered tag-team matches of all time in WrestleMania X-Seven's TLC match come to mind. One match we haven't seen and won't ever see that was in the works was Edge vs Christian at WrestleMania, presumably WrestleMania XXVIII in Miami, according to Edge. The story goes Edge was supposed to be double-crossed by Christian at WrestleMania XXVII, which would ignite a feud between the two that would culminate into a big retirement match—with Christian going over. Too bad fate had other plans in mind for Edge. So far the closest fans and the legendary tag-team have gotten to such a match was their WrestleMania 21 Money in the Bank ladder match where the two were opponents. I think if there's one thing Edge can find solace in, with wishful thinking remaining just that, is knowing not only did he retire a victor at WrestleMania, but on top as World Heavyweight Champion.

10 Edge Almost Got Toast At SummerSlam 2008

Via WWE.com

Here's an interesting entry on the background of those cool spots we see in big matches. If you remember SummerSlam 2008's main event's finish where The Undertaker chokeslammed Edge from the top of a ladder all the way through the ring, then you might have wondered how that stunt was pulled off with fire blazing immediately after Edge's spill. According to Edge, Michael Hayes had rehearsed the spot prior to the event to see if the spot was safe with the collapsible spot in the ring. It turned out to be, and Edge, who bumped regularly in 2008 as a full-timer, didn't want to risk injury before the match and decided to watch the spot performed and then try it himself come SummerSlam night. The moment of impact after the long, grueling match knocked the wind out of him like it did to Hayes. When he glanced over, he saw the crew with oxygen masks on already prepared to ignite a fire, which needed to be lit pronto for the effect to be seen the minute Edge hit the bottom. Edge rolled out the way in just enough time for the section he just fell through to be set ablaze, while crew pulled him toward them to stuff him in a crew box to be removed once the cameras stopped rolling.

9 Bayley Wants A Women's Tag Team Division

Via Pinterest.com

The women in wrestling are making history by the day. In the start of the year we witnessed the first-ever Women's Royal Rumble, the first-ever Hell in a Cell for women before that, and recently the first-ever Women's Elimination Chamber. These firsts are big, but wrestlers like Bayley want another addition for the growing women's division – Tag Team Championships. With more women joining the roster such as the two rookies of Absolution (to say little of NXT's Iconic Duo) and the only title for both rosters being a world title, tag team gold would actually be revolutionary since there is no tag division for women, and what better way to give as many women exposure than showcasing four at a time in just one match.

As it was brought up by the masters of tag team wrestling Edge and Christian, it's about time to pull off the idea while WWE is reaching for firsts. When partners were discussed, Bayley mentioned none other than her good friend Sasha Banks joining forces with her.

8 Edge Booked To Win Briefcase At WrestleMania 23

Via SLTDWrestling.com

When Mr. Kennedy lost his briefcase to Edge on an episode of SmackDown, it seemed like a fate worse than just losing the cash-in. Fans wondered what Kennedy could have done to get that shining moment at WrestleMania 23 taken away from him. The answer to that was nothing. According to Edge, plans changed twice concerning 2007's Money in the Bank. Vince initially wanted Edge to win a second time, then that was changed and that honor was extended to mid-carder Mr. Kennedy. Shorty after winning it, Kennedy was thought to have had a triceps tendon injury that required immediate surgery, with a possible return that was too long for him to knowingly keep the briefcase, so because of that, Edge was booked to defeat Kennedy on Raw. As luck would have it, Kennedy and Edge both would state in regards to the story that it was simply a sprain, not a full tear. Interesting how though Edge was the planned winner changed to loser, fate would ensure the Ultimate Opportunist would end up with the briefcase anyway.

7 AJ Styles Didn't Know Much About New Japan Pro Wrestling

Via GramUnion.com

For the majority of his life, Styles was a U.S.-based professional wrestler, making his name in TNA. Given their widely known financial issues, the company no longer became a viable option for their top stars like Samoa Joe, Sting and Styles to work for. After choosing not to re-sign with TNA/Impact, AJ was a free agent doing various shows and looking for a new home. For someone as well adjusted to the NJPW style as AJ, it will shock many to know that AJ didn't know much about the promotion before he signed. According to AJ, he was stuck in his "bubble," not knowing as much as he felt he should have known about the culture of the promotion and their audience's characteristics. He mentions being shocked how quickly foreigners could come in and take the world title, citing guys like Brock Lesnar in his 2005 run right before UFC and himself in the Bullet Club when he became IWGP Heavyweight Champion. Given his success there, I say he picked up on as much as he could and got the most out of his run there.

6 Edge Felt He'd Lose His First Cash In Match

Via WWE.com

It's interesting to think how much differently history would play out if Edge lost his cash-in match to John Cena at New Year's Revolution 2006. He'd look utterly weak being unable to beat a guy with all the odds stacked against him and could have ended up never having been the main eventer he became. According to Edge, it was all his idea to pitch the match the night of New Year's Revolution, but not in a scheduled match, but rather a last minute thing, with his reasoning being there's nothing more heelish than a cheap win over a fallen hero.

At the very least he expected the match to be made, but for him to lose. Keep in mind this was during the days Cena beat just about any challenge that came his way like there was an S planted firmly on his chest. Little did Edge know Vince wanted him to go over to solidify the mega heel he needed him to be, which worked brilliantly and gave us not only one of the last best feuds of the Attitude era, but Edge the push of a lifetime that would elevate him to main event status for the rest of his days.

5 Rey Mysterio Dislikes Wearing The Same Mask Twice

Via YouTube.com

A luchador prides himself on his mask. It's a common fact, if one is unmasked, it's considered a higher form of disrespect than a slap to the face. Over the years WCW and WWE fans have seen the Mysterious one wear a wide variety of colors and designs such as his Flash mask worn at WrestleMania XIX and his Joker mask worn at WrestleMania XXV.  According to Rey in his March 2018 interview with The Pod, his favorite wrestler in WWE was "Macho Man" Randy Savage. One of the things about him that caught Rey's eye was the color scheme and uniqueness of his wardrobe, which he admits to inspiring his collection of masks, this along with his uncle. Rey, in his own words, is a fan of the flamboyant look of a wrestler.

4 Hawkins And Ryder Pitched The EdgeHeads Gimmick

Via Scoopnest.com

It's not every day a wrestler is allowed to pitch their own gimmick, especially if they are fresh out of developmental and some with much longer tenures are too timid to push creative to ensure their careers are headed in the right direction. As guests closely associated with Edge, Hawkins and Ryder, formerly known as the Major Brothers as a team, recalled pitching the idea of being Edge's henchmen, arguing how much they all looked alike, which was uncanny given the similar build and long blonde hair for both at the time. Edge loved the idea and got the go ahead to bring them to SmackDown, where they appeared at Armageddon 2007 as Edge look-alikes to help The Rated R Superstar win the World Heavyweight Championship.

Speaking for those old enough to remember Kurt Angle using the same tactics as WWE Champion when he'd bring in his brother Eric Angle, it was interesting to see the clever switch-a-roo again. From 2007 to 2009 the team would be under Edge's wing taking bumps and beatings for him and today in 2018 stand as their own men. I'm sure Edge looks on like a kinda proud father.

3 Kevin Owens Didn't Feel Like The Man As Champion

Via WWE.com

When we were little, we were sold on the idea that the world champ was "the man." He was the guy who made the most money, earned the most respect and was featured in all the main events. At one time that may have been true in general, but today a plethora of guys are going backwards AFTER winning the big one – for instance, you've got AJ Styles, Finn Balor, Dean Ambrose, and Kevin Owens.

According to KO, he thought once he won the Universal Championship his life would change, his status on Raw would change, but the longer he held the belt, he viewed the run as "not being what I was hoping," and further added "not the way it should"—before stopping to switch gears hoping nobody from the back heard him say that. He felt his friendship storyline with Jericho helped him reached heights he had not hit prior, but the payoff didn't take place. Looking back at his run, almost every title defense Owens needed help to retain and was outshined by a piece of paper in The List of Jericho. At least he can rest easy knowing he lost the big red belt to a legend in Goldberg.

2 Goldberg Forgot Pyro Sequence

Via IBTimes.co.uk

Goldberg's 2017 return was magical from start to finish, the classic retired hero tale come to life for the fans and Goldberg's son. It's annoying being away from something so long you forget the ropes once you return, but repetition helps and according to Goldberg as the show's debut guest (what a way to introduce a podcast) when he returned, little by little did his routine register. But while in the process of attempting to operate as the younger Goldberg once did, it wasn't instantaneous. The retired Edge shared the same difficulties just pointing up in the same manner he used to in his entrance whenever he makes cameos for WWE. As he put it, his entrance was way less physical besides the hand gesture and the vintage slide in the ring and he felt his age showing.

So, imagine how a 50-year-old Goldberg who has been away for 13 years felt hopping right back into the world he likely thought he'd never be in again. Another interesting note from Goldberg's return: he told Edge and Christian and all their listeners that during one of his entrances as he punched and kicked in the midst of pyro, he pulled a hamstring. Fortunately for him and us, he was still able to battle Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania to outdo their terrible 'Mania match from 13 years prior.

1 Batista Pitched An Orphan Gimmick

Via Twitter.com

When we think of Batista, a lot of names come to mind, but the one most associated with him is The Animal. Still, according to Batista, if creative had their way, we might have seen a whole different character known by a whole different nickname, perhaps The Orphan.

Legend has it when Batista was called up from OVW, creative wanted to give him an origin, but not just any origin... something dark, something that would explain why he was so cold and angry. Ric Flair, whom he was placed with in late 2002 after his Deacon days were done, would serve as the father figure Batista never had, and whenever he was attacked or threatened, Batista would unleash every bit of pent up frustration on that person or group. This story is corroborated by another guest on the show—former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz. Knowing this, I'll say lucky for Batista he didn't go through with the stupid gimmick, because who knows how history would have turned out for big Dave.
