The WWE is hoping to plan a Shield vs New Day match for Survivor Series. WWE fans who wanted to see The Shield reunite after being disbanded for two-and-a-half years were to finally get their wish at the TLC pay-per-view event. Unfortunately, Roman Reigns suffered a mumps virus and had to be taken out, and was replaced by Raw GM, Kurt Angle.

There was hope that Reigns would be cleared for Survivor Series and could reunite with The Shield. However, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose (the Raw Tag Team Champions) were to face The Usos, who are the SmackDown Tag Team Champions at Survivor Series. Reigns also wasn't medically cleared to compete at the pay-per-view event in two weeks.

Of course, Cesaro and Sheamus stole the belts on this week's episode of Raw and will face The Usos instead. And now, PwInsider.com (subscription required), is reporting that there are plans for The New Day to face The Shield at Survivor Series. How WWE sets it up will depend on when/if Reigns is cleared.

If the reports are accurate, then fans may finally see The Shield together for the first time since Payback 2014, when they defeated Evolution. On the following day's episode of Raw, Rollins turned on The Shield and aligned with The Authority.

Reigns hasn't been on WWE programming since the Oct. 16 episode of Monday Night Raw, where Kane interfered and cost him his Steel Cage match against Braun Strowman. Just days before TLC, it was announced that he would miss the match and was replaced by Angle who led The Shield to victory over Team Miz.

So, if Reigns is able to be cleared in time for Survivor Series, then the long-anticipated reunion of The Shield will be back, and it'll come against one of the most dominant tag teams in recent memory.
