Title matches are one of the key attractions on pay-per-views that draw fans to pay for the event. There is no bigger excitement than seeing a new champion being crowned, especially at WrestleMania. Moreover, it's equally shocking when no titles change hands on pay-per-view as at least one is expected to change hands.

It makes logical sense to keep the titles on certain champions, instead of enforcing title changes for the sake of it. Collectively, it makes the championships mean something when every champion keeps a stranglehold on their title, as it is incredibly rare for titles to be retained at every pay-per-view extravaganza.

John Cena v JBL Judgment Day 2005 Cropped

Judgment Day 2005 was a SmackDown exclusive event, and it was John Cena's final pay-per-view as a full-time competitor on the blue brand. Big Match John retained the WWE Championship against John Bradshaw Layfield in a brutal I Quit match that saw both men bleed profusely in the main event.

MNM set the tone for champions to retain their titles as they defeated Charlie Haas and Hardcore Holly in the opening match for the WWE Tag Team Championship. Paul London overcame Chavo Guerrero in a Cruiserweight Title bout, and Orlando Jordan retained the United States Championship against Heidenreich in a lackluster encounter.

9 Vengeance 2011

Vengeance 2011

WWE brought Vengeance back in 2011 for the first time in four years, but not in their usual June/July spot. The event occurred in October, and five champions walked in with their titles, and all five managed to hang onto their championships.

Dolph Ziggler failed to capture the WWE Tag Team Championship with Jack Swagger against Air Boom, but he regrouped and retained the United States Title straight after. Beth Phoenix continued her dominance in the divas division by outlasting Eve Torres in a Divas Championship match,  and Mark Henry kept the World Heavyweight Title in a draw with Big Show. 8 Royal Rumble 2004

Rumble 04

Rey Mysterio bested Jamie Noble in a quick Cruiserweight Championship match, and Hardcore Holly failed to wrestle the WWE Title away from Brock Lesnar. Moreover, Triple H continued his love affair with the World Heavyweight Championship as he and Shawn Michaels drew in a Last Man Standing match.

7 SummerSlam 2007

John Morrison v CM Punk SummerSlam 2007 Cropped

SummerSlam 2007 is fondly remembered for Triple H's return to action after he tore his quadriceps earlier on in the year. There were four titles matches at The Biggest Party of The Summer, and every champion retained by hook or by crook.

Umaga defeated Carlito and Mr. Kennedy in an underrated Intercontinental Title match, and John Morrison overcame CM Punk once more to keep the ECW Championship. Batista should have captured the World Heavyweight Title from The Great Khali, who retained the title by disqualification. John Cena and Randy Orton collided in a high-profile WWE Championship match with Big Match John getting the better of his rival.

6 Judgment Day 2009

Judgment Day 2009

The final Judgment Day event came in 2009, and it went out in style with some exceptional title bouts. Christian retained the ECW Championship against Jack Swagger in a rematch from Backlash. Rey Mysterio also stopped Chris Jericho in his tracks from winning his ninth Intercontinental Title in a competitive contest.

However, Randy Orton resorted to getting himself intentionally disqualified by slapping a referee in his WWE Championship match with Batista. Edge and one of his most iconic rivals Jeff Hardy, got the nod to close out the show in a superb World Heavyweight Championship match with The Rated-R Superstar keeping the title in his possession.

5 Money In The Bank 2013

MITB 2013

The fact that The Shield's successful WWE Tag Team Title defense against The Usos at Money in the Bank 2013 failed to make the main show is unfathomable. They tore the house down in a high octane contest. Moreover, on the main show, Curtis Axel and AJ Lee retained the Intercontinental and Divas Titles respectively.

Alberto Del Rio also joined Axel, and AJ by keeping the World Heavyweight Title with all three backing up their title triumphs at Payback. John Cena ensured it was a clean sweep for the reigning champions by retaining the WWE Title against Mark Henry, who faked his retirement leading up to their clash.

4 Royal Rumble 2020

Rumble 2020

Royal Rumble 2020 was held at Minute Maid Park, and it was held in front of over 40,000 people. The men's and women's Royal Rumble matches were exceptional, and the title matches weren't too shabby either. Andrade retained the United States Championship against Humberto Carrillo in a remarkable match on the pre-show.

"The Fiend" Bray Wyatt thwarted Daniel Bryan's hopes of capturing the Universal Championship in a strap match, and Becky Lynch avenged her loss to Asuka a year prior by retaining the Raw Women's Title this time around.

3 Backlash 2018

Backlash 2018

Another hidden gem of an excellent pay-per-view was Backlash 2018. Five titles were defended, and champions showed their mettle once more. Seth Rollins and The Miz tore the house down in an outstanding opening match for the Intercontinental Title with Rollins retaining the championship.

Alexa Bliss failed to regain the Raw Women's Championship from Nia Jax, and Jeff Hardy beat Randy Orton in a United States Title bout. Moreover, Carmella continued to build momentum by upsetting Charlotte Flair to retain the SmackDown Women's Title, and AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura battled to a draw in a WWE Championship match.

2 No Mercy 2008

No Mercy 2008

No Mercy 2008 featured two outstanding World Title encounters that closed out the pay-per-view. Triple H narrowly retained the WWE Championship against Jeff Hardy, and Chris Jericho beat fellow ladder match specialist Shawn Michaels to retain the World Heavyweight Title to culminate their remarkable feud.

Mark Henry was hellbent on regaining the ECW Title from Matt Hardy but Hardy ensured that his ECW Championship reign would continue. For the second year in a row, Beth Phoenix defeated Candice Michelle in a Women's Championship match at No Mercy, asserting her authority in the women's division.

1 New Year's Revolution 2007

New Year's Revolution 2007

The third and final New Year's Revolution in 2007 was arguably the best iteration of the event. All four Raw exclusive titles were defended in competitive championship bouts. Jeff Hardy retained the Intercontinental Championship against Johnny Nitro in a steel cage match, and Mickie James beat a reinvigorated Victoria to retain the Women's Title.

Unfortunately, Triple H tore his quadriceps in the match of the night that saw Rated-RKO remain as World Tag Team Champions against DX which ended up as a no contest. Ultimately,  John Cena was the man responsible for halting Umaga's unbeaten run to keep the WWE Championship in his possession.
