Tag team wrestling has been overlooked for many years in WWE. However, there have been a few occasions where a Tag Team Championship match has been better than a World Title match on pay-per-view. Look no further than the matches put on by the likes of Edge and Christian, Dudley Boyz, and the Hardy Boyz, who revolutionized tag team wrestling in the Attitude Era.

Tag Team Championship matches rarely close out pay-per-views but that does not stop them from stealing the show. Here are examples of tag team wrestling at its finest and most enthralling.

10 Edge & Christian Vs. Hardy Boyz (Unforgiven 2000)

Edge and Christian v Hardyz

At Unforgiven 2000, Edge and Christian defended the WWE Tag Team Championship against the Hardy Boyz in a tag team steel cage match. The duo had legendary battles in ladder matches, but a cage match was another match to tackle in their storied rivalry.

They had a remarkable contest and Jeff was out of the equation early on. Matt wore the proverbial crimson mask and battled hard. The Hardyz reclaimed the titles after Edge took a sickening chair shot to the head, crashing and burning onto the mat. The WWE Championship match between The Rock, Undertaker, Kane, and Chris Benoit was poor.

9 Drew McIntyre & Dolph Ziggler Vs. Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose (Hell In A Cell 2018)

Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre v Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre Hell in a Cell 2018 Cropped

Seth Rollins was looking to become a double champion once more, as the reigning Intercontinental Champion and Dean Ambrose squared off with Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler for the Raw Tag Team Championship. They faced off at Hell in a Cell 2018.

It was a lengthy battle, which ebbed and flowed with many false finishers. The title match wasn't topped, and it was better than the underwhelming Universal Championship match between Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman. AJ Styles and Samoa Joe's WWE Title clash was remarkable but it wasn't better than the enthralling Raw Team Title match.

8 The Bar Vs. Hardy Boyz (Great Balls Of Fire 2017)

Bar v Hardyz

The Bar recaptured the Raw Tag Team Championship from The Hardy Boyz in a steel cage match at Extreme Rules 2017. However, The Hardyz were determined to recapture the belts at Great Balls of Fire in a 30-minute Iron man match.

Both teams epitomized the greatness of tag team wrestling when it's done correctly. It was a hard-hitting affair, and The Bar narrowly retained the titles with a 4-3 scoreline. The Universal Title match between Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe only lasted six minutes which was bitterly disappointing.

7 Jeri-Show Vs. DX (TLC 2009)

Jeri-Show v DX

At TLC 2009, Chris Jericho and Big Show put their Unified WWE Tag Team titles on the line against Shawn Michaels and Triple H who was representing DX. They collided in a TLC match, which was the first main event of the TLC pay-per-view.

Jericho and Michaels are ladder match specialists, so they carried large portions of the match. DX captured the gold in a competitive match. The two World title matches that saw Undertaker defeat Batista in a chairs match and Sheamus shock John Cena for his first WWE Championship in a tables match were subpar.

6 Demolition Vs. The Hart Foundation (SummerSlam 1990)

Demolition v Hart Foundation

With Ax no longer functioning at the peak of his powers, Demolition introduced Crush into the fold. The Hart Foundation's Bret Hart and Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart challenged Demolition in an outstanding two-out-of-three falls match for the WWE Tag Team titles at SummerSlam 1990.

The scores were even at one fall apiece but Ax made his way down to ringside to help Smash and Crush. Nonetheless, The Road Warriors interfered to even up the odds. Ultimately, The Hart Foundation regained the titles in an underrated title match. The Ultimate Warrior and Rick Rude's WWE Title match was decent but didn't reach the heights as expected with Warrior's limitations in the ring.

5 Rated-RKO Vs. DX (New Year's Revolution 2007)

Rated RKO v DX

It's strange to see the likes of Randy Orton, Edge, Triple H, and Shawn Michaels colliding for the World Tag Team Championship. That happened at New Year's Revolution 2007 with DX searching for their first tag team titles together against Rated-RKO.

All four put on a solid match that encapsulated the greatness of all four men. Orton bled profusely, and Triple H tore his quadriceps. The match was ruled as no contest but it was better than John Cena's WWE Championship match with Umaga, which saw Big Match John unceremoniously end Umaga's unbeaten streak.

4 Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows Vs. Hardy Boyz Vs. The Bar Vs. Enzo & Cass (WrestleMania 33)

WM 33

WrestleMania 33 will forever be remembered for The Hardy Boyz's unforgettable return. The Hardyz competed in a Fatal-4-way ladder match for Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows' Raw Tag Team Titles with Enzo and Cass, and The Bar completing the field.

The Hardyz stole the show in the match, and Jeff risked his body by executing a jaw-dropping Swanton Bomb off the top of the ladder onto Cesaro. The Hardyz capped off their return in style with Matt retrieving the Raw Tag Team titles. Moreover, the two World Title matches featuring Orton and Bray Wyatt, and Brock Lesnar and Goldberg were lackluster affairs.

3 Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins Vs. The Usos (Money In The Bank 2013)

MITB 2013

It's inconceivable to think that Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins appeared on a kick-off show but that was the case at Money in the Bank 2013. Two-thirds of The Shield defended the WWE Tag Team Championship against The Usos.

All four would have been bitterly disappointed with their positioning on the card but they did not let that deter them from stealing the show. The match was breathtaking which saw The Shield retain the WWE Tag Team Championship. Alberto Del Rio's World Heavyweight Title match with Dolph Ziggler and John Cena's WWE Championship victory over Mark Henry were both massively underwhelming matches.

2 Dudley Boyz Vs. Hardy Boyz Vs. Edge & Christian (WrestleMania 2000)

WM 16

The WWE Championship match featuring Triple H, The Rock, Big Show, and Mick Foley was a massive disappointment to close out WrestleMania 2000. Mercifully, The Dudley Boyz's WWE Tag Team title defense against The Hardy Boyz, Edge, and Christian in a triangle ladder match was remarkable.

All three teams put their bodies on the line in a match that incorporated tables, ladders, and chairs. Bubba Ray Dudley was on the receiving end of Jeff's scintillating Swanton Bomb off the top of the ladder driving his body into Bubba's through the tables. Nonetheless, Edge and Christian claimed the bragging rights in the first significant match pitting three iconic teams together in a blossoming rivalry.

1 The New Day Vs. The Usos (Hell In A Cell 2017)

New Day v Usos

Undoubtedly, The Usos and New Day are the greatest tag teams in this current era. At Hell in a Cell 2017, they took their rivalry to new heights by competing in a tag team Hell in a Cell Match for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship.

Xavier Woods and Big E represented New Day with Kofi Kingston resorted to playing a cheerleader on the outside. This was a brutal battle with both teams pulling out the stops to make this a memorable encounter. The Usos unleashed a ruthless side to themselves that was never seen before. Ultimately, The Usos recaptured the SmackDown Tag Team titles. Jinder Mahal's successful WWE Championship title defense against Shinsuke Nakamura wasn't up to standards.
