One of the main reasons that the Vince McMahon character has been so successful on screen is because it is very similar to himself but turned up a notch, which means what you see is what you get. Vince is incredibly passionate and isn't afraid of letting his feelings known, especially about his own product which often means when something happens that he doesn't like, he isn't afraid of letting people know about it.

Even when it comes to some of WWE's biggest superstars, Vince McMahon doesn't have a problem in telling them when he thinks there is an issue and he is often known for letting his temper get the best of him backstage. There have been countless examples of Vince McMahon losing his cool backstage throughout the years and even as he grows older, that temper hasn't relaxed with the boss still losing his cool when things don't go as planned. Sometimes it could be due to a wrestler not following instructions, and sometimes he can be upset over wrestlers stinking out the joint in a match. For all of Vince's faults, it's clear he hasn't lost his passion for his business.

Getting Vince's approval goes a long way in WWE and while wrestlers can occasionally upset the boss and get away with it, it's important not to remain in Vince's doghouse for long. Within this article we will be looking at recent examples of Vince McMahon getting angry backstage about something, with the examples ranging from poor matches to bad promos, fans not responding as planned and more.

20 Kevin Owens vs. Chris Jericho - WrestleMania 33

via wwe.com

Heading into WrestleMania 33, one of the biggest storylines was between Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho with their long-term friendship coming to an end during the famous Festival of Friendship segment, leading to a major United States Championship match between them. This had been expected to be the main event for the Universal Championship match at one point but those plans were scrapped, and Vince McMahon was likely very happy with that decision as he was disappointed with the match.

What made things worse was the moment Kevin Owens returned to the back and asked Vince his thoughts, only to be told he didn't like, it was caught on camera for a WWE Network show, allowing the fans to get a clear sight of Vince at his worst.

19 Big Cass Goes Against Instructions

via wwe.com

When Big Cass was released by WWE many fans were surprised as he was enjoying a push as a singles wrestler in a big feud against Daniel Bryan at the time. However it quickly became clear afterward that he had been going against what Vince McMahon himself wanted.

During the feud, Big Cass brought out a little person to mock Bryan's height (the main focal point of the storyline), and while that was part of the plan, Cass physically attacking him was not. Vince McMahon had apparently told him specifically not to do that and was absolutely furious with him for his actions. Going directly against the WWE Chairman's orders is never a wise move and Cass found out the hard way.

18 Using The Term "Pro Wrestlers"

via wwe.com

One would think a superstar claiming that they were "pro wrestlers" wouldn't be a major issue. After all, that is exactly what they are, professional wrestlers, but when The Revival made that claim during a Monday Night Raw promo, Vince McMahon was not pleased in the slightest. Vince has done everything in his power to create his own specific vocabulary with terms such as "belt" and "wrestling" all being erased and replaced by "championship" and "superstar," so when the Top Guys replaced that, Vince wasn't best pleased.

Due to of that, the former NXT Tag Team Champions ended up being punished, losing countless matches after and the team have only just managed to start recovering from their mistake.

17 The Rock Calls CM Punk

via stillrealtous.com

This is a moment that many fans likely didn't even know happened when The Rock was last at Raw to film one of the major segments to his Fighting With My Family movie which is based on Paige's life. The moment involved Paige beating AJ Lee for the Divas Championship and the live crowd quickly took to chanting CM Punk over and over. Always one to play to the audience, The Rock decided to acknowledge that and actually called Punk live for the fans.

While The Rock is a major name who is a legend of WWE, that didn't stop Vince McMahon from losing his cool at the situation and it's a good thing that Punk didn't answer or things could have gotten much worse.

16 Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn Run Away

via wwe.com

The second time Kevin Owens makes this list but this time a much more serious situation with him and his best friend, Sami Zayn really frustrating Vince McMahon to the point where the duo was removed from WWE's United Kingdom tour. The team was supposed to be on the receiving end of a beatdown from The New Day but for some reason the duo decided to run away and avoid the entire situation, going directly against what Vince had told them.

The fact that Vince was angry enough to kick them off the tour, leaving the UK fans without two of WWE's top talents shows just how angry the WWE Chairman was over the situation.

15 Goldberg KOs Himself

via wwe.com

Goldberg and Vince McMahon have always had a difficult relationship, which is why Goldberg walked away from WWE in the first place, having few positive things to say about Vince McMahon during his time away. When he made his return to WWE it seemed like they had put the past behind them, but Goldberg did manage to frustrate his boss with his pre-match ritual of headbutting his door (yes, really) before he headed out to the ring.

The issue was he ended up knocking himself out and getting cut. That meant he could barely get himself through a promo building to a major Universal Championship match, leaving Vince frustrated.

14 Neville Refuses

via mandatory.com

There is a reason Neville sat on the sidelines for almost a year with his WWE contract frozen by Vince McMahon, and that is because he frustrated the Chairman so much that he refused to release him. When Neville point blank refused to perform on Monday Night Raw, walking out of the arena instead it was seen as the ultimate sign of disrespect from him and Vince certainly blew a gasket.

Instead of just punishing Neville with a big fine, he simply stopped booking him but also refused to let him leave and join the growing independent scene for up to a year, sapping all the momentum that he had built up for himself.

13 AJ Styles's Gear Rips

via wwe.com

In wrestling, accidents happen, when you add a tables, ladders and chairs stipulation there can be even higher chances of that happening with all of the different sharp objects and AJ Styles found that out the hard way. His ring gear ended up getting caught on something and it created a rip on his backside, creating a big hole which didn't look great, to say the least. According to James Ellsworth, Vince McMahon was furious backstage at the situation.

Ellsworth stated that he was demanding the camera guys stopped showing the problem throughout the match, losing his cool on the headset, obviously not wanting to give the WWE Universe a sight they didn't want.

12 Enzo Amore Shows Up

via SportsKeeda.com

It isn't just his employees that leave Vince McMahon frustrated, with his former employees also causing him huge issues as well. At least that is the case for former Cruiserweight Champion, Enzo Amore. Amore had been fired by WWE about 10 months earlier. Enzo didn't take this well and ended up buying a ticket to Survivor Series in Los Angeles to pop up on the front row, attempting to distract the crowd.

This left Vince McMahon furious with nobody ever showing that level of disrespect before, winding up with Amore being banned from a WWE arena for life with Vince pushing for a restraining order between him and Liv Morgan to stop it from ever happening again.

11 Braun Strowman Breaks The Code

via wwe.com

Wrestling is something that is built on respect and there is a longtime code that has been created between those within the business, with a set of unwritten rules that should not be broken and when they are, it isn't taken lightly. Things such as always shaking hands with the locker room when you arrive, staying for the main event of every show, even if you were in the opening match and other similar rules are always in place.

Earlier in the the 2018 calendar year, reports claimed that Braun Strowman had started to break some of those rules, which left the Chairman frustrated, especially since he has invested time and effort into the Monster Among Men.

10 Vince Gets Emotional

via youtube.com

Whilst the vast majority of examples on this list have seen Vince McMahon getting frustrated or angry at WWE Superstars, this entry is an example of Vince getting genuinely upset and emotional backstage.

Much has been made of the relationship between Vince and his son Shane McMahon, which has certainly had its ups and downs, but when Shane made his return to WWE it seemed like the past was certainly left as just that. Following his WrestleMania match with The Undertaker, the McMahon's embraced backstage with Vince being visibly emotional over his son's return and the major favor he had just done for his father to help WWE when the roster was riddled with injuries.

9 The LaVar Ball Segment

via wwe.com

WWE loves to have celebrities involved in shows, especially when they are the big talking point at the time and Vince McMahon jumped at the controversial situation surrounding LaVar Ball when WWE had a show at the Staples Center. LaVar appeared on Miz TV alongside his sons Lonzo and LaMelo and it created one of the worst segments in the history of Raw. Despite Miz's best efforts, the entire thing was a mess with LaVar even taking his shirt off to try and intimidate Miz.

However, the worst part was when LaMelo could be heard saying a slur on the mic on live television which forced WWE into issuing a public apology as it offended the sponsors of a supposedly PG product.

8 Roman Reigns Breaks The Wellness Policy

via wwe.com

Whenever a wrestler breaks WWE's strict Wellness Policy, there is always a major issue, but when that superstar happens to be the biggest name in the company who WWE put an incredible amount of time into it becomes a bigger issue. That is what happened when Roman Reigns broke the policy in 2016 and it was reported straight away that Vince McMahon was incredibly disappointed in The Big Dog after he had invested so much time in making him the face of WWE.

When Roman returned to the company he was immediately beaten by Finn Balor in a move that was clearly done to teach him and the rest of the talent a lesson not to break the company rules.

7 Fans Don't Back Bayley

via wwe.com

Prior to SummerSlam, Bayley was set to be part of the Women's Championship match, only for an injury to cost her the spot. WWE sent out Bayley to reveal the situation to the fans, admitting that she couldn't take part. The company clearly expected a good response for one of its top babyface stars but instead, the fans simply turned on Bayley and didn't seem sympathetic at all, and Vince McMahon was supposedly furious with the way the WWE Universe treated Bayley.

This led to McMahon feeding lines to Corey Graves with the commentator stating that WWE was in "Bizarro World" as a method to try and convince the fans at home that it wasn't the norm.

6 Braun Strowman Confuses Vince

via wwe.com

Wrestlers not following basic instructions from Vince McMahon himself is something that the WWE Chairman simply doesn't stand for and Braun Strowman found that out when he first started performing as a singles wrestler in WWE. Triple H revealed in an interview that Vince had told Strowman something and the message kept getting ignored, with the Chairman turning to Hunter and questioning why he wasn't listening to what he said.

Luckily for Braun, Triple H had his back and he explained to Vince that it was only his 15th match and he was still very green and that seemed to calm down Vince who has clearly remained a big fan of Braun ever since.

5 Seth Rollins vs Dean Ambrose At TLC

via wwe.com

Sometimes matches just don't work and the recent clash between Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose at TLC was one of those and it left Vince McMahon absolutely furious backstage over the situation. The pair were supposed to be in a major grudge feud, but the match felt like anything but that, with the pair simply going through the motions which led to chants of "boring" and "Becky" all the way throughout.

This left Vince incredibly mad at the Gorilla Position, with the fan response and the match quality itself. The Chairman has very high expectations of his top stars and he clearly was let down by this one.

4 Shinsuke Nakamura Drops John Cena

via wwe.com

Shinsuke Nakamura's booking when he first arrived on the main roster was very strong, despite the position he finds himself in now, however he almost cost himself that moment when he accidentally dropped John Cena on his head during a match on SmackDown. It was a huge match that everyone was excited to see and when Nakamura attempted an Xploder Suplex it ended badly with Cena landing head first and clearly finding himself in pain, even though Shinsuke apologized straight away.

Cena brushed off the situation, clearly knowing it was an accident, but Vince McMahon didn't find it quite as easy to relax about, with the WWE Chairman being furious backstage about the issue.

3 Brock Lesnar Goes Off Script

via wwe.com

The WrestleMania 34 main event between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns was sadly one to forget, with the match never kicking into second gear with the only memorable spot being when Lesnar threw an elbow which busted Roman wide open. This was totally off script and Vince McMahon did not appreciate the situation in the slightest. The crimson mask is a big no go in WWE due to the PG sponsors and because of how much there was, on the biggest show, it was a major problem.

Following the match, it was reported by various outlets that Vince and Lesnar got into a heated argument about it which led to The Beast throwing the Universal Championship at Vince as the two men failed to contain their feelings.

2 The Elite Invasion

via youtube.com

The Bullet Club (now known as The Elite) has a huge fanbase, and in 2018 the group decided to use that to host an invasion on Monday Night Raw...sort of. The group went to the carpark of WWE and held a speech for an episode of Being The Elite, but it pushed Vince McMahon over the edge. Former WWE writer Jimmy Jacobs came out to meet his friends, a decision that ultimately cost him his job as Vince fired him for it and he didn't stop there either, putting his foot down on the group.

Vince sent cease and desist letters to the Young Bucks, banning them from performing the Too Sweet hand gesture, as he was left incredibly angry about people invading on his territory.

1 Titus O'Neil Pulls Vince

via wwe.com

Titus O'Neil has had several memorable moments in his WWE career, sadly, the two he will likely be best remembered for aren't great. With his slide under the ring at the Greatest Royal Rumble being one, and the moment he decided to physically pull Vince McMahon on Raw being the other. The WWE locker room had come out to celebrate Daniel Bryan during his retirement speech and as they all left to go back, Titus could be seen grabbing Vince's arm and pulling him back, a big mistake.

O'Neil claimed he did it because he wanted Stephanie McMahon to go first, being a gentleman, but manhandling your boss is never a wise move, especially when that boss is Vince. Titus was quickly punished for the situation as he was suspended for 60 days. Reports also claimed that Triple H had to talk Vince out of firing Titus outright.
