WWE makes a lot of questionable decisions; like, an unhealthy amount for a company whose audience has become disenchanted with their product. Sometimes, simple storytelling and character development are enough to drive a show. WWE seems to have forgotten that, so they throw any idea they think of -smart or otherwise- against the wall, hoping something will stick. Of course, when you shoot so many darts at the board, something is bound to hit.

Along with the many bad choices the WWE decided to go with, we'll be highlighting some recent ideas that weren't supposed to work on paper, but somehow the 'E made them work.

10 Dumb: Hell In A Cell Ending

Ugh. It's still way too soon to write about this. Forget about the weird red that permeated throughout the match; forget about the peculiar flow of the match itself, which mostly consisted of Rollins hitting Bray with finisher after finisher, only to have The Fiend kick out at 1.

No, the most insulting, egregious part of this match was the stupid ending. The most brutal match in wrestling history, where there are no rules, no escape (ahem), no ref interference other than to count the pin... ends in a no contest?

9 Genius: RIP Bayley Buddies

Those maniacs. They actually did it. They turned The Hugger heel.

It was bound to happen at some point, as Bayley, the face character with the side ponytail, had grown very stale (mostly because WWE couldn't recapture the magic that made her amazing in NXT, but that's a whole other matter). With Sasha coming back as a heel and Bayley sticking by her friend, there were seeds being planted for a turn. It came on a recent episode of SmackDown, where Bayley used her newly embraced dark side to regain the title she lost at Hell in a Cell.

8 Dumb: The Wild Card Rule

The Wild Card Rule was a terrible idea that completely devalued the point of the Brand Split. Ratings were down, so this was Vince McMahon's attempt to jump-start them: more Roman, on all shows, dang it! Oh, and in case you weren't a fan of Shane McMahon hogging the spotlight on SmackDown, here he is on Raw!

Worst of all? The number of wrestlers that were allowed to show up on both brands varied every week. There were no set rules for this stupid rule; Vince McMahon did what he wants, when he wanted.

7 Genius: 24/7 Championship

If you want something to get over in the WWE, just attach R-Truth to it, because he will make gold out of nothing. Well, he literally made gold out of gold in this case, as the 24/7 Championship was introduced to boost ratings (specifically for the third hour of Raw).

It's an ugly title that initially received some backlash, but fans have definitely warmed up to it due to the hilarious antics these wrestlers get into to win the title. Golf courses? Plane rides? FOX Sports studio? It's been everywhere, and we can't wait to see what else the 24/7 Championship and its hundreds of challengers do next.

6 Dumb: Lana And Lashley, Sitting In A Tree

As much as fans love Paul Heyman and can appreciate his mind for the business, he definitely has some flaws when it comes to how he creates wrestling storylines. While some may be genius, he's also known to dip his toes in some rather low brow material. Case in point: the current Lana/Lashley/Rusev narrative.

We want to blame this storyline on Vince, but this reeks of Heyman. Love triangles in wrestling mostly fail, and one as uncomfortable as this will surely have the same fate.

5 Genius: Brock Party

This is probably the greatest thing that happened in the WWE this year. Gross exaggerations aside, a lot of fans were left groaning after Brock Lesnar made his way to the ring at Money in the Bank, pushed poor Ali off the ladder during the main event, and won the MITB briefcase.

All was forgiven the next night on Raw, however, when Brock came out and gave the fans the greatest gift of all: Dancing Brock. We had witnessed him some time ago during his feud with Eddie Guerrero, but to see him in 2019 was something else. This probably had nothing to do with WWE creative and was all Brock, but WWE is smart enough to capitalize on gold, and they gave us Brock Party merch.

4 Dumb: Goldberg vs The Undertaker

This was just all sorts of weird. It was really a roller coaster of emotions (mostly negative) that highlighted WWE's ineptitude. Let's go through the ride, shall we?

High: our nostalgia is running wild thinking about these two finally facing off. Low: their combined age is 106. High: their face-to-face on the SmackDown before their match was amazing. Low: During the match, Goldberg gets concussed when he slams his head in the ring post. Low: Taker accidentally drops Goldberg on his head with the Tombstone. Low: Goldberg returns the favor and drops Taker on his head with a botched Jackhammer. Low: Goldberg drops Taker while attempting to lift him for a Tombstone. Low: leave the memories alone.

3 Genius: Finn Balor Is NXT

It might still be a little early to tell, but with NXT's track record and Finn Balor's talent, this is a combo that makes plenty of sense.

It's hard to admit, but Balor (through no fault of his own -  a common theme with WWE) was getting stale. It seemed like he had feuded with everyone, was good enough to main event shows, but was relegated to the midcard scene. Some time away definitely made the heart grow fonder, but this makes us overjoyed as Balor is back on a brand where he can truly shine.

2 Dumb: Kofimania's Ending

Oh Kofi... it's OK, we'll always have WrestleMania 35.

This was just disrespectful. The idea was that, with SmackDown now on FOX, the show needed a more "sports"-oriented approach. Kofi getting "caught" was something that happens in combat sports, so why not in the WWE, right?

Wrong. It was bad. Kofi looked like a chump instead of a champ, jumping right into an F5. Now only did he look like a joke, but everyone he defeated also look weak in the process. It left such a bitter taste in fans' mouths, that the Cain Velasquez debut was a weird afterthought. Keep squeezing those pancakes, Kofi...

1 Genius: The Firefly Fun House

On paper, this really shouldn't have worked. Well, WWE's fumbling of The Fiend may still make this an overall fail. However, up until Hell in a Cell, everything about Bray Wyatt's new gimmick was fantastic, and it all started with the weird vignettes post-WrestleMania.

Fans were introduced to Ramblin' Rabbit, Abby the Witch, Mercy the Buzzard and a whole cast of other characters, led by a charming but mentally unstable Bray. No, this isn't Mr. Wyatt's Neighborhood, but it may as well have been. The Firefly Fun House was something original that got the fans talking.
