In a shocking development, WWE.com announced that they have released William Morrissey - known to wrestling fans as Big Cass - with no reason given for his sudden departure:

Cass lost to Daniel Bryan via submission at this Sunday's Money in the Bank pay-per-view, which obviously wound up being his final match in WWE. Cass had only returned in April after missing eight months of action with a torn ACL injury, so the news of his release is even more shocking.

There were never any reports about Big Cass wanting out. Last month, he got himself in trouble backstage for going off-script and attacking a little person - whom Cass used to intimidate Bryan. But other than that, there was no prior knowledge of him having issues with officials backstage.

The same couldn't be said about Enzo Amore - the long-time tag team partner of Cass in NXT and on Raw. Enzo's release was inevitable, considering the amount of backstage incidents he rant into. PWInsider.com noted that the sexual assault allegations against Amore were a "final straw," as he failed to notify them about the investigation.

It's also interesting in that WWE didn't wish Big Cass the best in his future endeavors - something that's usually done when they announce a superstar's release. We'll certainly learn more information from wrestling prognosticators in the near future.

There were rumors last year that Big Cass was in line for a major push, and that was hinted when he turned on Enzo Amore. But for some reason, the long-term picture didn't work for WWE and/or Big Cass, and they've parted ways with one of their top up-and-coming talents.

We should find out soon enough what future plans are for Big Cass, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he opted to join another promotion. For now, the big question is why the sudden departure?
