On the same day WWE announced the release of WWE Superstar Sin Cara, they added that they have agreed to release Jonathan Huber (Luke Harper).

For fans who follow Harper on social media, every day he posts the phrase, "It's _______. You know what that means." The blank space being the day of the week. Sunday started normally, as any other day would for Harper but by mid-afternoon, there was a sense his status and posts might change.

After publicly requesting his release from WWE, not getting it and getting a small push only to go back into WWE purgatory, the company has finally decided to let Harper move on. The immediate assumption is that he'll jump to AEW, even though there's absolutely no confirmation on that.

The message from WWE that Harper was released was hidden inside the message that Sin Cara was released. There was no fancy photo, no real discussion, just a few words under Sin Cara's photo that Harper was gone. Minutes later, WWE changed the article to give Harper a bit more of a presence, suggesting the releases might not have come at the exact same time.

Fans immediately took to social media to suggest this is the best thing for Harper who is so much more talented than WWE ever really gave him credit for and the assumption is that of all the releases, this one could come back to bite Vince McMahon.

WWE Finally Did the Right Thing

It wasn't without hesitation. There were long-standing rumors that WWE wasn't prepared to let Harper leave out of fear he would, in fact, go to AEW. In the end, Vince is going to roll the dice and see what comes of Harper moving on.

There is likely a non-compete clause written into his release so if he does show up in AEW, it won't be until well into the 2020 calendar year.
