One month after he went public about his desire to leave WWE, Sin Cara's wish was finally granted this weekend.

On Sunday, Sin Cara took to Twitter and announced that he had been granted his release, and WWE.com confirmed this in a statement. In the message, WWE wrote that they wish Sin Cara "all the best in his future endeavors."

Sin Cara first debuted on WWE programming in 2011, and he quickly became a fan favorite with remarkable in-ring skills. He and Kalisto won the NXT Tag Team Championships on one occasion.  On top of that, the 42-year-old Sin Cara won the Double Vision Moment of the Year Slammy Award in 2011.

He underwent knee surgery in August of last year, and Sin Cara would miss seven months of action. In his final match for WWE, Sin Cara lost to Drew McIntyre on the Nov. 8 taping against Drew McIntyre.

This news may come as a surprise to some, as WWE has refused to grant the releases of other unhappy superstars. Luke Harper took to Twitter to voice his desire in April, and Mike Kanellis did the same back in October. However, both remain on the roster for now.

Oney Lorcan had also requested his release from WWE. But in a surprise move, he actually wound up signing a new multi-year deal to stick with the company. As for Harper, it looks like he is preparing for a departure, as he trademarked his old wrestling ring name, Brodie Lee).

WWE Did The Right Thing

At the end of the day, WWE made the right choice by letting Sin Cara explore other opportunities. He wasn't happy with his place in the company, and he had been underused throughout most of his tenure in WWE. There was no reason to keep a disgruntled superstar on board, especially considering that they were never going to give him much of a push.
