It was quite a surprise to watch Seth Rollins and Jason Jordan team up and defeat The Bar (Sheamus and Cesaro) on Christmas night for the Raw Tag-Team Championship belts—but we almost had a different duo achieve that feat.
In case you didn't know, WWE had Jordan team up with Rollins when Dean Ambrose suffered a tricep injury after being attacked by The Bar and Samoa Joe the week before. With Ambrose now out for the next nine months, WWE had to figure out who they would have Rollins team up with until his fellow Shield member gets back.
What's really interesting is that WWE almost had Rollins team up with Finn Balor, instead of Jordan, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Having Balor and Rollins partner up would have been unexpected, given the fact that they've been rivals for so long. But Balor probably would have been a better partner than Jordan for Seth Rollins as many fans haven't been that impressed with the former American Alpha star, but WWE clearly wants to build up his character and teaming him with Rollins will help his career while Balor continues to go up against mid-level wrestlers like Bo Dallas.
Nonetheless, WWE made their decision and now Rollins and Jordan are the Raw tag-team champs.
We have a hard time believing that they will hold onto the titles for a long time. Or WWE could have Rollins and Jordan defend the tag-team belts until Ambrose is ready to come back and then have them lose to another duo where they end up getting into their own feud, which prompts Rollins and Ambrose to come together once again.
Something else that's interesting about Jordan and Rollins coming together as a tag-team is the fact that it seemed as though the WWE was having Jordan turn heel, but that may have been nixed for now, according to a report from Rajah.
Jordan just made the move to Raw back in July, as it was revealed that he's Kurt Angle's on-screen son, but hasn't been able to get his first win as a singles wrestler. So maybe having him work with Rollins over the next several months can help him improve.
