Factions are a mainstay in pro wrestling. Over the years, fans have witnessed some truly amazing factions like The Shield and some terrible ones like the League of Nations. While both factions maintained the same amount of quality (or lack thereof) over the entirety of their run, sometimes, factions experience a drastic change in quality over time.

WWE sometimes manages to screw up a good thing, but other times, it knocks it out of the park, taking something that started off awful and turning it into something great. These changes in quality have happened on several occasions over the years.

10 Started Awful, Became Great: The Hurt Business

The Hurt Business

After spending months subjecting Bobby Lashley to the awfulness of the Lana-Rusev storyline, WWE aligned him with MVP. Things didn't get off to a great start, with the entire storyline bogged down by the presence of the Ravishing Russian and Lashley almost immediately failing to win the WWE Championship.

Even with the addition of Shelton Benjamin, it was difficult to care about The Hurt Business. But all of that changed when the faction decided to take Raw Underground by storm, in addition to stepping up to Retribution, making them anti-heroes of sorts on the red brand.

9 Started Great, Became Awful: The Wyatt Family

The Wyatt Family

The Wyatt Family made a big impression on the WWE Universe. Wyatt's cryptic, insidious promos, coupled with the quiet intensity of Erick Rowan and Luke Harper made them extremely compelling. They started off great too, feuding with some of the promotion's biggest stars.

Their feud with The Shield was also phenomenal. Things were great until they ran into John Cena. After Wyatt lost to Cena, the faction quickly unraveled. They weren't nearly as intimidating or dangerous, and once Wyatt let Rowan and Harper go, it was difficult to take them seriously when they reformed a few years later and introduced the WWE Universe to Braun Strowman.

8 Started Awful, Became Great: La Familia

Edge and the Edgeheads

La Familia consisted of faction members that should not have worked on paper; Edge, Chavo Guerrero, The Edgeheads, Big Show, and Bam Neeley. Expectations weren't high at all, but somehow over time, the group formed great chemistry that led to them dominating WWE.

Not only were Edge and Guerrero world champions on SmackDown and ECW respectively, but The Edgeheads also won tag team gold, in addition to them entertaining in a number of vignettes and segments. This was also when Vickie Guerrero first introduced the WWE Universe to her, "Excuse Me!" catchphrase.

7 Started Great, Became Awful: Ministry Of Darkness

Corporate Ministry of Darkness

The Ministry of Darkness represented all of the most ridiculously entertaining aspects of WWE programming during the Attitude Era (even if it sometimes crossed the line). The Undertaker leaned heavily into the supernatural aspects of his character and terrorized Vince and Stephanie McMahon.

It was all fun stuff, but WWE jumped the gun when the faction merged with The Corporation to form the Corporate Ministry. With Vince McMahon revealing himself as the "Greater Power", things unraveled quickly and the group eventually dissolved, not with a bang, but a whimper.

6 Started Awful, Became Great: The O.C.

The OC

WWE gave fans a taste of their version of the Bullet Club when AJ Styles reunited with Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows to form 'The Club'. They feuded with Roman Reigns and The Usos for a little while, but all of it just felt so average. They eventually broke up for a couple of years, before reuniting and being renamed 'The O.C.'

This run was much more successful; Styles won the United States Championship, Gallows and Anderson won the Raw Tag Team Championships and the WWE Tag Team World Cup, in addition to the faction feuding with The Undertaker heading into WrestleMania 36, which was just awesome.

5 Started Great, Became Awful: D-Generation X

D-Generation X make their entrance

D-Generation X started off as a result of Triple H and Shawn Michaels' real-life friendship and turned into one of the most entertaining WWE factions of all time. The revolving array of members meant that the faction also consistently felt fresh, but things started falling apart later on.

When D-Generation X recruited Hornswoggle, the faction went just a little too far. When The Game and Michaels reunited to take on the Brothers of Destruction a couple of years ago, their antics just seemed cringe-worthy; like a couple of guys past their prime, trying to hold onto the good old days.

4 Started Awful, Became Great: Nation Of Domination

Nation of Domination

Fans remember The Nation of Domination as the faction that turned The Rock into one of the biggest stars in the promotion. The Brahma Bull was a member of the second incarnation of the faction, as the first was a pretty big dud.

The first Nation consisted of Farooq, Crush, Savio Vega, D'Lo Brown, and a couple of other guys. The group failed, resulting in Farooq firing everyone except Brown and promising a stronger Nation in the future. In the years that followed, guys like The Rock, The Godfather, Mark Henry, Ahmed Johnson, and Owen Hart were members of the Nation of Domination. The group eventually fell apart because there was simply too much star power in the faction and that is always a good thing.

3 Started Great, Became Awful: The Authority

The Authority

The Authority was instrumental in Daniel Bryan's fairy-tale run which resulted in him winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXX. They acted as the perfect antagonists to Bryan's rapid rise up the card. The story which involved Seth Rollins aligning with them was also really entertaining, but things fell apart after the feud with Sting, which buried The Icon.

The whole storyline with Roman Reigns was an absolute drag and killed the entire faction. It was boring and predictable, Sheamus as the World Heavyweight Champion was terrible and this was an example of a faction that lived way past its expiration date.

2 Started Awful, Became Great: The New Day

The New Day

Xavier Woods, Big E, and Kofi Kingston pitched working together to Creative and WWE had them debut as a gospel singing faction that fans absolutely hated. Their matches were accompanied by chants of 'New Day Sucks,' which led to a heel turn and their eventual transformation into the faction that entertained fans for years.

The New Day is one of the greatest tag teams of all time; they put on several fantastic matches and won tons of championships, in addition to them turning out to be perfect brand ambassadors for the promotion for years.

1 Started Great, Became Awful: The Nexus

The Nexus

The Nexus debuted with a ton of potential, destroying pretty much everyone in their path before entering a feud with John Cena. Fans had hoped that Cena would put Wade Barrett and the other members over, but instead, WWE chose to use Super Cena as a means of burying the young upstarts.

Barrett lost time and time again and was made to look like an absolute chump. He lost his position as the leader when CM Punk stepped in as the head of the New Nexus, which was just terrible. The Nexus had the potential to launch Barrett to main event stardom, but the entire faction fell victim to The Face That Ran The Place.
