The goal of NXT and the Performance Center is to set each talent up for success when they eventually get called up to the main roster. Many instances of great NXT talents being underutilized have led to criticism of the WWE main roster's style of booking. However, there have been stories going the other direction. Quite a few current main roster talents have thrived on the bigger stage.

NXT is not always the right fit for every wrestler, as certain performers lack what that specific audience wants. We will look at the situations of wrestlers doing better once leaving the system. These wrestlers were more suited for the WWE product. Find out just which names have shown that NXT is not the end all be all for future success. These are ten wrestlers that are better on the main roster than they were in NXT.

10 Carmella

Carmella as SmackDown Women's Champion

Carmella's run in NXT saw her mostly focusing on managing than wrestling. Carmella was the manager of the popular tag team of Enzo Amore and Big Cass. WWE called up Cass and Enzo to the main roster, but Carmella remained in NXT to continue learning.

NXT was not home to many memorable Carmella matches. That made it more surprising when she thrived following her main roster call-up. The extra time learning in the ring helped Carmella make the jump to the main shows. Carmella was the first women’s Money in the Bank winner and used it to win the Smackdown Women’s Championship.

9 Big E

Big E was a former NXT Champion, but his main roster run has put the NXT time to shame. Big E's personality was finally showcased when he joined his friends Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods to form the New Day.

Fans were used to the strength of Big E, but his fun personality put him over the top as an all-around performer. New Day are among the most valuable acts in WWE as they appear in various promotional events to represent the brand.

8 Heavy Machinery

The early 2019 call-ups from NXT to the main roster featured a few relatively unknown acts. Heavy Machinery was not a popular tag team compared to some of the other past NXT call-ups. Otis and Tucker provided comedy in small spurts.

WWE calling them up has seen Heavy Machinery getting more time to get their characters across. Otis particularly has shined in the comedic role. Heavy Machinery delivered their best performance against Daniel Bryan and Rowan, and they remain in the tag title picture despite falling short.

7 Charlotte Flair

Charlotte Flair was already on the path to greatness in NXT. The talented second-generation star had a strong NXT Women’s Championship reign that helped the women’s evolution start to form. WWE pushed Charlotte harder than Becky Lynch or Sasha Banks when all three were called up.

As a result of getting such a push meant all the pressure was on Flair. She continued to improve and thrive as the centerpiece of the women’s evolution over the past few years. Charlotte continues to perfect her heel character and is now a 9-time Women’s Champion.

6 Baron Corbin

Many fans hate Baron Corbin but it’s hard to argue with his recent results. There have been many negatives, like losing his Money in the Bank title shot or the horrible feud with Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship.

However, Corbin thrives in the heel role since fans view him as one of the few wrestlers they love to hate. The recent King of the Ring win showed just how much faith WWE has in him. Corbin did well in NXT, but the main roster style and present are clearly better for him.

5 Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns did not spend much time in NXT to get established before his main roster debut in The Shield. Few fans thought twice about Reigns during his rare appearances under the name of Leakee. That made it more surprising when he was called up with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose as a trio.

The main roster success of Reigns has seen him become the new face of the company. Reigns has main evented four WrestleMania events in four years and is often involved in the main event picture. This was one case of someone not needing NXT to thrive on the main roster.

4 Alexa Bliss

Alexa Bliss has been one of the most successful women in WWE history since getting called up to the main roster from NXT. Not many fans predicted this, as Bliss struggled to reach the top level in NXT women’s division. Her biggest success came as the manager of Blake and Murphy.

Bliss' time in NXT working with the likes of Bayley and Becky Lynch helped her put it all together by the time was she called up to the main roster. Alexa has dominated the title picture by winning the Raw Women’s Championship, Smackdown Women’s Championship, and Women’s Tag Team Championship. Not bad for someone that didn’t get one TakeOver match in NXT.

3 Xavier Woods

Many fans would forget that Xavier Woods even spent time in NXT. There were a few solid feuds for Woods in the mid-card division, but he never stood out as anything special. During his early days as part of the main roster, WWE struggled with booking Woods as well.

Woods finally broke out when New Day formed, allowing him to showcase his natural charisma. Hilarious catchphrases, classic tag team matches, and playing the trombone at ringside demonstrated Woods' skill as a performer. Woods sometimes gets overlooked, but he’s just as valuable as the other two New Day members.

2 Elias

Elias playing the guitar

Elias was a huge example of talents that were lackluster in NXT having a chance to break out on the main roster. NXT rarely showcased Elias, as he was viewed as a lower-tier comedy act. Fans would heckle his performances before the faces easily defeated him.

The main roster run has not been that much different, but the different style allows Elias to get over strong with his entertaining songs and promos. Elias gets consistent television time and often is selected to interact with returning legends. Despite not being a top name, Elias is an impressive success story.

1 Becky Lynch

The story of Becky Lynch’s career will inspire any wrestler trying to take the next step in their career. Lynch had a good run in NXT as one of the Four Horsewomen that delivered matches to get fans truly invested into the women’s division. The main roster stint of Becky had many ups and downs in her first few years.

A character change finally allowed Lynch to break out as "The Man." The new character of Becky talked trash with the best of them, spoke her mind and took it to a new level. Despite having multiple good matches in NXT, no one could have expected Lynch would make history on the main roster by becoming the first woman to win a WrestleMania main event.
