It’s time to shake things up again! Often said by Mr. McMahon, this phrase is met with a large ovation from the WWE Universe. It’s a chance to shake-up the brands and create some fresh, new rivalries. This is also a chance to reset the careers of superstars who have suffered from unfavorable booking while on their respective brands.

Raw is billed as the “Flagship Show,” but title opportunities are scare there, with the main event scene clogged by Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar. However, “The Land of Opportunity” known as SmackDown, hasn’t been much better lately either. AJ Styles has been “the champ that runs the camp” for months now, and superstars are struggling there as well because of it.

The draft was a good opportunity to move some credible opponents their way and create new stars for both brands. There remains an overwhelming number of superstars that have been unable to benefit from the brand switch either due to poor planning or from Creative throwing ideas at the wall, hoping that something sticks. In this article, we look at 15 superstars that have been struggling since the draft, and 5 that are actually better for it.

20 Better: Jeff Hardy

via ewrestling.news

The Hardy Boyz shocked everyone when they made their surprising return to WWE at WrestleMania 33, winning the Raw Tag Team Titles. However, The Hardys would lose the titles, and Jeff would find himself injured. Jeff returned to Raw but was not “Woken” like his brother and was eventually shipped over to Smackdown.

Being separated from his popular brother could have hurt Jeff, but the move has actually been an improvement for “The Charismatic Enigma.”

Jeff surprisingly won the United States Title from Jinder Mahal and took the title with him to SmackDown. With Jeff's "eyes now open," clearly his move to Smackdown is paying off.

19 Irrelevant: Baron Corbin

via wwe.com

While on SmackDown Live, “The Lone Wolf” Baron Corbin looked like he was going to be the breakout star after winning the Andre The Giant Battle Royal, winning the Money in the Bank contract, winning the United States Championship and having multiple WWE Title opportunities. True, he lost the cash-in title match and lost the U.S. Title and never won the WWE Title. However, Corbin, like him or not, still looked like a force to be reckoned with and made a name for himself on Smackdown.

When Corbin moved to Raw, fans thought a change of scenery would do Corbin good. They were wrong. Instead of a push towards a mid-card title, Corbin shaved his head and become “Constable Corbin,” which is basically a poor man’s Corporate Kane.

18 Irrelevant: Bobby Roode

via youtube.com

Booby Roode came from TNA, a promotion where he had a long list of accomplishments and joined WWE where he had a successful time in NXT, winning the NXT Championship. After moving from NXT to SmackDown, Roode would win a United States Title Tournament, earning him his first championship in WWE, and Roode’s future in WWE seemed GLORIOUS!

Unfortunately, Roode has been shipped to Raw, and so far it has been disastrous. He hasn't sniffed a singles title on Raw, and he even lost his Raw singles debut to Elias as well as several rematches afterwards. Send Roode back to SmackDown or turn him heel because his Raw tenure has been anything but glorious.

17 Better: Dolph Ziggler

via wwe.com

Dolph Ziggler has had an up and down career in WWE and nothing changed when he was on SmackDown. Ziggler scored some nice victories, winning the United States Title and was involved in high profile feuds with AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose. However creative still had zero direction for the character. His stealing of other superstars’ entrances and relinquishing the U.S. Title he just won for no reason led absolutely nowhere.

Contrast that with his accomplishments on Raw since his return not long ago, and Ziggler is free to show-off once again.

He got paired with a returning Drew McIntyre, and they’ve been mostly dominant ever since.

Now, with Ziggler getting a nice run in the summer with the IC title, after some thrilling wins over Seth Rollins, things may be on the upswing for Ziggler.

16 Irrelevant: Chad Gable

via youtube.com

Chad Gable was a member of American Alpha with partner, Jason Jordan. When Jordan came to Raw, Gable was left on Smackdown by himself. Despite being arguably more talented than JordanGable didn’t have immense success there as a singles star, and yet he was still way better off on the blue brand than the red.

Even when unsuccessful, Gable had some high profile matches on SmackDown and teamed with a returning Shelton Benjamin, receiving more Smackdown Tag Team Title opportunities. However, his Raw record hasn’t been great. He got an upset victory in his Raw debut over Jinder, but since then, he’s been a jobber mostly to Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre.

15 Irrelevant: Jinder Mahal

via wwe.com

While on Raw, Jinder Mahal was a member of 3MB, a stable consisting of three jobbers, before moving to Smackdown Live. Jinder would actually win a number one contender battle royal before shockingly (and appallingly) win the WWE Championship. Jinder would have more time than he probably should have with the title and would later win the U.S. Title as well. Jinder enjoyed success on SmackDown, but his drafting to Raw has yet to bear fruit.

"The Modern Day Maharaja" hasn’t had much to celebrate on Raw, getting dominated by Roman Reigns in their feud a couple of months ago, and getting lost in the mid-card once again.

14 Irrelevant: Breezango

via wwe.com

Fandango hasn't had much success in WWE since his inexplicable victory over Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 29, and Tyler Breeze has been letdown by WWE Creative since his arrival from NXT. However, on Smackdown, the two formed a tag team called Breezango and turned their careers around. They never won the Tag Team Titles, but they turned into a highly entertaining tag team.

Their shift to Raw away from The New Day and The Usos gave fans hope that tag team gold would be in their future.

Unfortunately, this hasn’t been the case. In fact, Breezango has remained a jobber team, going so far as to lose to another jobber team, The B-Team.

13 Better: Ruby Riott

via pinterest.com

The Riott Squad debuted on Smackdown Live consisting of Ruby Riott, the leader, and her two cohorts, Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan. Together, The Riott Squad is a formidable stable, and unlike Absolution, has remained together thus far. However, alone, Ruby Riott struggled to pick up singles wins on Smackdown, but that hasn’t been the case on Raw.

The Riott Squad got drafted to Raw and has taken full advantage of the never-ending saga between Bayley and Sasha Banks. The friction between the two former friends has enabled Ruby to secure some huge wins over the two former Raw Women’s Champions. With no end in sight for the Bayley and Sasha’s feud, it should be interesting to see if Ruby can keep the momentum going outside of the Sasha/Bayley storyline.

12 Irrelevant: Kevin Owens

via wwe.com

When Kevin Owens was called-up from NXT, Raw really was "The Kevin Owens Show." Owens’ move to SmackDown wasn’t nearly as fruitful, but he captured two more U.S. Title reigns and was involved in WWE Championship matches, albeit in losing efforts.

Despite his inability to capture the one title that has eluded him, Owens had a lot more upside remaining on SmackDown and was on the verge of breaking through there.

Then, Owens was signed to Raw, and there’s no way he’s going to see success on the same brand as Reigns, Strowman, Lashley and Lesnar that he saw while on SmackDown or had enjoyed his previous time on Raw.

11 Irrelevant: Sami Zayn

via wwe.com

Since Sami Zayn's shocking heel heel turn to join Owens, Zayn experienced a character resurgence. The pair would then engage in a high profile feud with Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon that was sure to boost their careers.

That didn’t happen, and Zayn, even with Owens alongside him, shifted to Raw, which clearly isn’t the answer either. Zayn got destroyed by Bobby Lashley in their feud, as one would expect, and is now out with an injury. Not that the injury couldn’t have happened on SmackDown, but there remains very little upside to Zayn on Raw.

10 Irrelevant: Asuka

via wwe.com

For two years, nobody was ready for Asuka. As it turned out, Asuka wasn’t ready for SmackDown. Asuka’s undefeated streak was alive and well in NXT and even on Raw. Asuka would go on to win the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble and made the shift to SmackDown to dethrone “The Queen.”

What happened when Asuka jumped to SmackDown is a travesty of epic proportions, shockingly losing to Charlotte, thus ending the undefeated streak.

Even worse, Asuka lost to Carmella months later, albeit with help from James Ellsworth. Either way, a pair of losses to Carmella is a major downgrade after two years of sheer dominance.

9 Better: Mandy Rose

via instagram.com

Mandy Rose came from NXT and was introduced along with Sonya Deville during Paige’s return to Raw as the trio, Absolution. Rose was mostly a toady, doing Paige’s dirty work, but after Paige’s injury, Rose found herself teaming with Deville more while continuing to terrorize the Raw Women’s Division. However, when Absolution was drafted to SmackDown, Mandy Rose was a toady no more.

On SmackDown, Paige declared Absolution dead. Rose still teamed with Deville, but she received an unexpected and high stakes singles win over former Smackdown Women’s Champion, Becky Lynch. This could be a sign of things to come for “The Golden Goddess.”

8 Irrelevant: Natalya

via youtube.com

Natalya has been in the WWE for a long time and has earned a Diva’s Championship while there. "The Queen of Harts" hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down either, especially after capturing the Smackdown Women’s Championship in a very competitive Smackdown Women's Division.

While Natty still has a lot to offer, it appears she’s already struggling in the very top heavy Raw Women’s Division.

On Raw, Natalya is basically there only to elevate Alexa Bliss and Nia Jax, and this friendship with Ronda Rousey isn't helping her either. When Natalya turns on Rousey, her character will generate interest, but until then the former "Diva of Doom" is doomed to job for a while.

7 Irrelevant: Zack Ryder

via wwe.com

While Zack Ryder is now on the flagship show, there’s no doubt he’d rather be on SmackDown. On SmackDown, Ryder teamed up with Mojo Rawley as The Hype Bros and competed for the Tag Titles. They failed to capture the titles, but at least Ryder was being used. Now that he’s on Raw who does Ryder have any chance of beating? Even worse is that he’s on the same brand as Mojo Rawley who has already turned on him and destroyed him.

Ryder is in deep trouble on Raw. Unless he scores another upset Intercontinental Title win, he’s not going to advance his career outside the blue brand where he was at least able to contend for or compete in title matches while there.

6 Better: Becky Lynch

via wwe.com

While Becky didn't change brands following the Superstar Shakeup, she did get a set of fresh opponents and Charlotte's sabbatical from TV opened the door for Becky to finally be put in some meaningful matches. Her heel turn at SummerSlam has fans invested in her character and judging from the crowd reactions she's getting, WWE may have to execute a double-turn, because Becky's actions seem justified, even from a kayfabe perspective. The bottom line is, Becky's more relevant than she's been in nearly two years and a one-on-one feud with Charlotte should lead to bigger things.

5 Better: Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows

via wwe.com

Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows were a big deal in Japan, but despite two years in WWE, fans barely remember that "The Good Brothers" are even in the company. The Club started to come around after teaming with Finn Balor but were still treated like a bunch of “nerds” on Raw. However, The Club has gone to SmackDown and reunited with AJ Styles in hopes of turning their WWE careers around.

On SmackDown, fans are at least reminded that The Club exists, they were actually granted a Tag Team Title opportunity.

The Club may have lost their title match, but at least they are getting chances at the titles unlike Raw where they were virtually nonexistent.

4 Irrelevant: Big Cass

via youtube.com

Big Cass “struggled” following the shakeup to say the least, because there’s only one word to describe him, and I’m gonna spell it out for ya, “F-I-R-E-D! Fiiired!” Yes, Big Cass was recently released from WWE after what looked like a certain push, and you can’t teach that.

Of course the jokes have been nonstop, but this release was a bit of a shock considering all the tools Big Cass had to succeed in WWE. Unfortunately, the break-up with Enzo, his injury and his failure to listen to directives on SmackDown eventually caused the seven footer to lose his push and his job. “How ya doin’?” Yeah, not so hot.

3 Irrelevant: The Bar

While Sheamus and Cesaro were on Raw, they were a dominant tag team. On Monday Nights, they didn’t just set the bar, they were the bar. Unfortunately, the bar is set pretty low now that they’re on Smackdown.

On the way out of the door of Raw, The Bar would lose to Strowman and a ten year old, fail to regain the tag team titles against the thrown together team of Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt and lose again to Breezango in embarrassing fashion. Their luck had to turn around on SmackDown, but instead they continued to lose to Xavier Woods (the weak link) and The New Day.

2 Better: Samoa Joe

via wwe.com

While it wasn't a very promising start for Samoa Joe since moving to SmackDown, after dropping a PPV main event to Roman Reigns, at least his feud with AJ Styles has brought him back to relevance. Joe managed to win by DQ at SummerSlam, which means we're bound to see these two clash again, and Joe would be an excellent candidate to end AJ's near-year long reign.

Joe is arguably the best promo in WWE right now and him being on SmackDown has allowed him to be on the better wrestling show, which has only worked in his favor the last couple of months.

1 Irrelevant: The Miz

via wwe.com

If there wasn’t someone named Brock Lesnar on Raw, The Miz would have been Universal Champion. The Miz had dished out some great work on Smackdown and that work continued on Raw after WrestleMania 33. While the Universal Champion was nowhere to be found, The Miz carried Raw on his shoulders as the Intercontinental Champion and even earned some wins over Roman Reigns. While there was no way Miz was ever going to beat Lesnar for the title, there was strong belief that Miz was going to see a huge push once on SmackDown.

However, Miz has been less than awesome on SmackDown, sadly. He hasn’t sniffed a singles title and has suffered some perplexing losses as well. This is definitely not the most must see push Miz or his fans were looking for.
