Wrestling is not just about the skills that superstars possess in the ring. It is also about having a gimmick that the WWE Universe can relate to and a character that the fans can get behind. There have been so many stars over the past few years who have been talented in-ring performers, but their entire careers have been ruined by the fact that they were unable to get over with the WWE Universe. There is also the added fact that sometimes without the proper storyline, characters can become quite stale. This then leaves wrestlers on the sidelines with no way to force themselves back onto TV.

Of course, wrestling isn't a job for everyone. Recently WWE has hired a number of stars who have no background in the sport and these are the ones who stand out on WWE TV. Their lack of experience just doesn't belong alongside some of the greatest wrestlers of the present day. The fans don't believe they have what it takes, and for that reason won't back them. For some wrestlers, they just need a change of character or gimmick to get the fans back on their side. For others, the damage might already be done and they should consider a change in career.

The following list looks at eight current WWE stars who need a change of character as well as seven who definitely need a change of career. As already stated, wrestling isn't something for everyone and some wrestlers stand out for all the wrong reasons.

15 15. Gimmick: Jason Jordan

The worst thing that WWE did to Jason Jordan was pull him away from Chad Gable and put him under a microscope as Kurt Angle's illegitimate child on Monday Night Raw. The former Tag Team Champion hasn't been able to connect with the fans at all since this dramatic character change and many of his promos have been pretty abysmal.

Jordan's recent injury has come at the perfect time since he is already set to miss the biggest event of the year.

When he returns, WWE could be given a fresh opportunity to repackage him as someone different. The push could have just been too much too soon for Jordan, but at the same time, it also could have been too much for him to take on as a superstar.

14 14. Career: Alicia Fox

via wwe.com

Alicia Fox has been part of the women's division now for more than a decade. The former model still doesn't know the rules of the sport though, as she tried to pin a superstar on the outside of the ring last year.

Her crazy character is something that has kept her career alive for the past few years, but the botches in the ring that have been overlooked recently are just too much for someone who has her experience. It could be time for Alicia to be looking for another career path since the one that she's currently on doesn't seem to have anything big in her future. The Women's Revolution has been in full swing for a while now and it seems that Alicia has noticeably not been that much of a part of it.

13 13. Gimmick: The New Day

Via f4wonline.com

The New Day became the longest reigning Tag Team Champions in the history of WWE back in 2016. However, even the exciting trio has reached the point where their characters and their gimmicks have become stale.

The trio isn't part of the title picture anymore and it feels as though WWE has no idea what to do with them.

Their current feud with Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin definitely aren't setting the world on fire and it seems as though their jokes are becoming painful to listen to at this point as well. Maybe it's time the trio became three separate stars in WWE once again since all three members have their own accolades as singles competitors and are seemingly wasting away right now on SmackDown Live's mid-card.

12 12. Career: Curt Hawkins

Via WWE.com

Curt Hawkins has a great job in WWE right now, he is on a lengthy losing streak so it seems that he is given TV time, mic time and doesn't even have to compete in lengthy matches anymore. It's a win-win situation for him, except for the fact that he hasn't been seen on WWE TV in a number of months.

Hawkins is one of those stars who are out of sight and out of mind.

WWE doesn't seem to be bothering to push his losing streak anymore it seems that with the brand split on pay-per-views set to come to an end in the coming months, Hawkins could be one of the stars WWE decides to release when the rosters are cut down ahead of the change.

11 11. Gimmick: Dolph Ziggler

via wwe.fr

Dolph Ziggler has recently resigned with WWE after months of the WWE Universe believing that The Showoff would walk away from the company after more than a decade. Despite his new contract, Dolph hasn't been given a new character. Instead, he is continuing to push forward his current one, where he doesn't need a great entrance because he does all of his work inside the ring.

Dolph just isn't making this character work for himself at all.

He has been put in the main event at Fastlane after one match in 2018, so it looks like WWE has plans to push him forward over the next few months. They just need to do something with his character if they want him to make sense to his fanbase.

10 10. Career: Titus O'Neil

Via f4wonline.com

Titus O'Neil has been on a downward spiral ever since he was suspended for putting his hands on Vince McMahon. Titus Worldwide has always been seen as a joke, it seems that Akira Tozawa has left without any reason why Dana Brooke has joined the group so that she has some TV time but doesn't actually do anything and Titus and Apollo Crews are just seen as jobbers anyway. Both men deserve so much better.

Titus has so many business ventures outside of WWE that he doesn't need to continue going this anyway.

He needs to cut his losses so that Apollo can go on and do something worthwhile. Titus has been in WWE for long enough to know that at this point he is already past his prime.

9 9. Gimmick: Apollo Crews

Via dailydtt.com

Talking of Apollo Crews, he was one of the best wrestlers NXT had to offer while he was under the wing of Triple H, he just seems to have lost his footing on the main roster. It could be asked, what exactly is Apollo's character anyway? Maybe the fact that he doesn't have a character is the bigger issue here.

Apollo is a fantastic wrestler and someone that WWE is selling short right now at the side of Titus O'Neil. Until he does something to change this, he will be stuck as a jobber on WWE TV until the company fully give up on him. Apollo just can't stop smiling in the ring, which means that it would make more sense for him to be a face rather than a heel.

8 8. Career: Lana

Via sportswiki.com

Lana is someone who has pushed hard over the past few years so that she can step in the ring and be seen as a wrestler as well. She apparently wasn't good enough, so WWE has taken her back out and made her a manager instead.

Her client (Tamina) is currently injured so Lana has nothing to do right now on WWE TV and has just been forgotten. She's seen as one of the worst people on the roster on Total Divas as well because of her arrogance and obvious jealousy of fellow wrestler Natalya. Maybe Lana was on the right track when she was working as an actress, it is an environment that seems to suit her attitude much better than the wrestling world.

7 7. Gimmick: Randy Orton

via wwe.com

Randy Orton has been through a number of character changes throughout his career but he is another star who has fallen by the side of the road as part of SmackDown Live over the past few months. Orton hasn't done anything of note in WWE since he was WWE Champion last year and now it seems that the company are only putting him into storylines because of who he is.

Orton's storylines haven't made sense for a while, so it could be the perfect time for WWE to either turn him heel once again or give him another full character change to allow him to connect with his fans once again. Either way, the recent "Boreton" nickname should be enough for WWE to see that they need to change something about the former Champion in the near future.

6 6. Career: Liv Morgan

Via ewrestlingnews.com

Liv Morgan is a prime example of a superstar who was brought up to WWE's main roster too soon. It seems that has a heel she is unable to stop smiling and pandering to the audience since she has become used to being a face in NXT, so it is a huge change for her.

The Riott Squad aren't exactly setting the world on fire right now since SmackDown Live has no idea how to book their Women's Division. Liv could be the weak member of the group as she was signed to WWE without a wrestling background. It seems that the former Hooters employee just doesn't fit in on the main roster. Liv isn't alone either since her team mate Sarah Logan has attracted a lot of negative attention on Social Media recently.

5 5. Gimmick: Dean Ambrose

Via cagesideseats.com

Dean Ambrose has been one of WWE's top stars for the past five years, but it seems that because of his background in CZW as Jon Moxley, the WWE Universe have wanted Ambrose to turn heel for the better part of his WWE career.

Ambrose is seen as a Lunatic and it's hard for him to make that character work in a PG era when he also has to ensure that he's on the right side of the fans. His character has been stale for a long time now and it was hoped that the current storyline with Seth Rollins would be the one that finally turned him. His injury has come at the worst possible time, but hopefully, when he returns, it's with a new attitude and the recognizable swagger of Jon Moxley.

4 4. Career: Dana Brooke

via diva-dirt.com

Dana Brooke has only been in WWE now for a few years, but she is a star who has taken a lot of abuse when it comes to her in-ring ability. She was signed to the company without any experience in a wrestling ring, but she was someone who had worked as a bodybuilder in the past.

Dana hasn't adapted well to the business or the main roster and many thought that she would be released when Summer Rae and Emma were future endeavoured last year. Dana's number could be up in the near future since it seems that WWE has given up trying to push her as a wrestler and just put her into a storyline that sees her as the least important member of a group of jobbers.

3 3. Gimmick: Roman Reigns

via wrestlingnews.com

Roman Reigns is a former World Champion and he is about to get the biggest rub of his career when he defeats Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 34 in April. Despite coming so far since he parted ways with Ambrose and Rollins, Roman still uses the Shield's entrance theme and still dresses the same way that he once did as part of the trio.

Reigns is the man who has seemingly gone on to take The Shield mantel in the hope that the WWE Universe would get behind it, but this hasn't worked. Maybe it's time that WWE gives Roman his own personality and allowed him to step out of this "Big Dog" persona so that his fanbase can see who he really is behind the vest.

2 2. Career: Kurt Angle

via wwe.com

Kurt Angle returned to the company last year following his Hall of Fame induction as the General Manager of Monday Night Raw. While it's been fantastic having a legend back, Kurt has made a shocking amount of errors as part of promos and backstage segments on the show.

It seems that many of the WWE Universe have picked up on these errors and it is unknown if it's because Angle is under a lot of pressure to remember lines or that he's just not cut out for this kind of job anymore. Angle is reportedly too injured to wrestle at this year's WrestleMania after he worked hurt at Survivor Series, so are the company only keeping him around in the hopes that he will be cleared for in-ring competition in the future?

1 1. Gimmick: Bayley

via culturedvultures.com

Every member of the WWE Universe has felt sorry for Bayley ever since she was promoted to the main roster. The former NXT Champion was the one who was sacrificed as Alexa Bliss worked her way to the top of the Raw roster and it seems that she hasn't been able to find her feet since. Bayley was a huge star because of her relatable gimmick on NXT, but that doesn't seem to have followed through for her on Monday Night Raw.

Bayley's character doesn't work on the main roster at all and it seems that WWE pushing her feud with Sasha Banks is only continuing to pull up all of her flaws. Bayley needs a change of character as soon as possible otherwise the women's division is in danger of moving forward and leaving her behind.
