CM Punk has returned to the wrestling world in the form of his appearances on WWE Backstage, which is a role that we can actually see him continuing for quite some time to come.

Of course, the overriding feeling amongst fans is that they want to see him step back inside the squared circle for at least one more match. Regardless of whether or not that actually happens, we all know it's going to be a source of speculation for many weeks and months to come, especially in the lead-up to WrestleMania 36. So what does WWE need to do in order to make it happen?

10 More WWE Backstage Appearances

This one kind of goes without saying, but either way, we haven’t been given all too many specifics regarding what CM Punk’s future on WWE Backstage is going to look like.

We’re all well aware of the fact that he’s going to appear on the show periodically, but often is that going to be, exactly? He almost certainly isn’t going to feature every single week which is absolutely fine but on the opposite end of the spectrum, he must surely be appearing regularly enough for it to be worth FOX’s time hiring him in the first place.

9 Steve Austin Interview

It’s been hinted at online already, and we think it’d probably be an interview that would literally break the internet.

Stone Cold Steve Austin is back on the Network with a new interview format type of show, and after he was able to convince The Undertaker to take part, we think the next big scoop would be to get Punk on there.

We aren’t so sure he’s going to be toasting shots with the Texas Rattlesnake anytime soon, but either way, he’ll say a lot of stuff that will rattle WWE.

8 Mentions On RAW & SmackDown

Seth Rollins took things to a whole new level on Monday Night RAW recently by acknowledging the fact that the fans were chanting for CM Punk.

While WWE may not like it, they also know it’s going to draw Punk further and further out of his shell if they continue to mention him. They may not outright suggest to people that they go out there and talk to the guy, but at the same time, it wouldn’t be the worst idea for them to respond whenever the fans bring him up in conversation.

7 Checking Out The Performance Center

Perhaps he wouldn’t want to make the trip down, but either way, we’d be up for seeing CM Punk walk around the WWE Performance Center before maybe even getting in there and bumping around a little bit.

It’d be the perfect way for him to test out just how rusty he is, because let’s face it, he’s going to be pretty rusty. Maybe he decides then and there that he doesn’t want to come back but either way, this is the best possible tool they can use – because the WWEPC is quite literally gorgeous.

6 Twitter Debates

Poking the bear isn’t always considered to be a good idea, and in fact, it’s rarely even an adequate idea. However, Punk is pretty active on social media, and we’ve already seen him put Rollins back down after he tried to pop up on Twitter.

‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt has even hinted at a potential feud between the two of them down the road, and boy oh boy would we pay to see that. WWE wants to drive the attention span of the masses for a potential Punk return to either RAW or SmackDown, and this is the right way to go about doing it.

5 Invitation To WWE Headquarters

The WWE Headquarters in Stamford is where all of the big business goes down for the company, so it seems like the smart place to hold formal talks of some description.

Or, perhaps, he could just be invited there to film some stuff for FOX – even though it’s on the other side of the country to Los Angeles where they actually film.

They could have quite a bit of fun with this before they reach the next stage of negotiations, and if they give Punk a bit of freedom to do and say what he wants, he’ll be even more inclined to listen to what they have to say.

4 Phone Call From Vince McMahon

Vince probably hasn’t spoken to CM Punk on the phone for around five years, or perhaps even spoken to him at all, because we all know he’s employed by FOX and not WWE.

It’s like when you’re thinking about getting back together with your ex: you need to test the waters first and see whether or not you’re both on the same page. If this discussion doesn’t go particularly well, then you can probably rule out Punk coming back for another few years at least, because there’s just too much bad blood there.

3 Commentary Offer

It might not be wrestling, but it’s a start.

We all know that CM Punk is very good on commentary, and that goes for both professional wrestling and mixed martial arts. However, from a comedy and entertainment point of view, we think commentating on the graps is the right way to go.

This is another offer that we think he might throw back in the face of WWE, mainly because he would almost certainly take up most of the attention from the actual performers in the ring – especially for the first few weeks.

2 Luxury Offer To AJ Lee

If WWE was to offer AJ Lee a luxury deal to come back and perform, we honestly think she would do it. Thankfully for fans of Punk, it just so happens that he’s married to AJ, which will probably allow for the process to be a whole lot easier.

The idea that Punk could come back because he wants to test himself against the newest crop of talent is certainly valid, but let’s not forget that AJ has been on her own journey in WWE too, and she’s just as big of a name in the eyes of some fans.

1 Offer For WrestleMania Main Event

It’s the one thing he wanted more than anything in the world during his time in WWE that he never got: the main event of WrestleMania.

It certainly feels like that was one of the biggest catalysts behind him leaving, alongside his growing unhappiness and poor health, and we think WWE will want to rectify that. Some folks would argue that Punk probably doesn’t even think about those days anymore, but he’s the kind of guy that holds grudges in our eyes.

It doesn’t matter who it’s against. Just make it happen.
