WWE has never been afraid to shy away from questionable storylines. The company has faced criticism several times due to its insensitive, controversial, and sometimes graphic content, particularly during the Attitude Era when WWE fought WCW for viewership.

Despite their reputation, WWE has orchestrated angles that even the most dedicated fans have shaken their heads at. Whether it's out of absurdity or sheer bad taste, here are ten casually explained WWE storylines that sound ridiculous.

10 Edge And Lita Have Sex In The Ring

This would never happen nowadays on Raw or SmackDown, as WWE has worked hard to move in a family-friendly direction. And yet it is a part of WWE history that Edge and Lita, both Hall of Famers, had a "live sex celebration" in the middle of the ring.

Edge and Lita were written as an on-screen couple after their real-life affair was leaked online by Matt Hardy. Hardy and Edge faced off in the ring with Edge emerging victorious before he went on to win the WWE Championship at New Year's Revolution 2005.

9 Perry Saturn Believes A Mop Is His Manager

Perry Saturn was one of many wrestlers to make the jump from WCW to WWE, debuting as a member of The Radicalz alongside Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, and Dean Malenko. He, unfortunately, he saw the least success out of the entire group.

In an absurd angle, Saturn's head injuries caused him to confuse his valet Teri for a mop. The former WCW star then continued to refer to the mop as Moppy, bringing it to the ring with him as his manager.

8 Hornswoggle Is Vince McMahon's Son

The chairman of the board has interjected himself into the WWE narrative several times, sometimes to great benefit. McMahon is a natural heel and knows how to work a crowd. This storyline, however, was one of his misfires.

The reveal that McMahon had an affair that resulted in an illegitimate son failed to engage fans as it was too outside of the realm of plausibility. It was suspected that Mr. Kennedy would turn out to be the lost McMahon until it was revealed to be Hornswoggle.

7 Mae Young Gives Birth To A Hand

Mae Young is a legendary name in WWE who did so much for women's wrestling that, many years later, there is a tournament for female wrestlers named in her honor. She also once gave birth to a hand on WWE television.

The kayfabe relationship between Young and Mark Henry was uncomfortable to watch. WWE didn't stop there, however, developing a storyline in which Young fell pregnant only to later give birth to a giant rubber hand. It was a bewildering moment that makes no sense even now.

6 Eddie Guerrero Is The Real Father Of Rey Mysterio's Son

In an angle that was both distasteful and confusing, Eddie Guerrero turned heel in 2005 and began targeting his relative Rey Mysterio. Guerrero declared that Mysterio's son Dominick was Guerrero's son, despite losing a match against Mysterio at The Great American Bash that forbade him from revealing this "secret."

Latino Heat revealed that Dominick was the result of an extramarital affair and had been given to Mysterio and his wife after they struggled to conceive. The two Superstars faced each other at SummerSlam for custody of Dominick, which Mysterio won.

5 Vince McMahon vs. God

What is even more shocking than Vince McMahon genuinely trying to take on God in a match at Backlash 2006 is that it isn't even the most bizarre thing the chairman of the board has ever done during his time on WWE television.

Vince and Shane McMahon faced Shawn Michaels and "God" at Backlash after Michaels defeated Vince in a No Holds Barred match at WrestleMania 22. The chairman proclaimed this an "act of God" and demanded to face Michaels and God in a match which the McMahons won after interference from the Spirit Squad.

4 Snitsky Causes Lita To Miscarry

Lita and Kane's relationship was an uncomfortable travesty. The Big Red Monster began targeting Lita in 2004, forcing the high-flyer into a sexual relationship and marriage that resulted in Lita falling 'pregnant.' This storyline was further complicated when Gene Snitsky accidentally caused Lita to miscarry after striking Kane with a chair, causing him to fall on top of his reluctant wife.

Snitsky was originally intended to be a jobber but this feud temporarily gave him the spotlight. During one cringeworthy segment, Snitsky cut a promo in the ring with a fake plastic doll representing Kane and Lita's 'baby,' vehemently screaming his catchphrase "it wasn't my fault!"

3 Vince McMahon... Dies?

If his match against God wasn't bizarre enough, Vince McMahon once crafted a storyline in which he died on television after getting into a limousine which promptly exploded.

This angle couldn't have been more ill-timed, as the following episode of Raw which was to be a three-hour funeral for McMahon was instead dedicated to Chris Benoit. McMahon went on to declare Benoit would not be mentioned again and continued with this storyline, despite having shattered kayfabe.

2 The McMahons Mock Jim Ross' Colon Surgery

Jim Ross was 'fired' by Vince McMahon in 2005 to give the commentator time to have colon surgery, though for some inexplicable reason the lines between reality and kayfabe were blurred as McMahon mocked JR on television by pretending to perform surgery on a mannequin.

It was a distasteful angle that made no sense. McMahon pretended to pull various objects out of 'JR' including BBQ sauce and an Oklahoma football helmet. JR returned to WWE in a backstage role and the storyline was never mentioned again.

1 Triple H Has A Sexual Encounter With A Dead Body

This is perhaps the most controversial storyline ever written by WWE. Triple H addressed Kane on Raw in 2002 about Katie Vick, a woman the Devil's Favourite Demon had murdered. HHH would go on to make lewd statements about Vick, as Kane confessed to accidentally murdering her in a drunk driving accident.

If this wasn't enough, Triple H then donned a Kane mask and attended the 'funeral' of Katie Vick, where he had a sexual encounter with Vick's body. It remains a shameful moment WWE is eager to forget about.
