Wrestlers undergoing different gimmicks is quite a common thing within wrestling as it keeps people fresh and ensures the product is as exciting as possible. With singles wrestlers, it is very easy to change someone's gimmick, as there is only one factor to deal with. But when it comes to tag teams, it does get more complicated.

Because there are two wrestlers involved, it instantly becomes harder to totally switch gimmicks for them, which is why it's not as common. However, over the years there have been plenty of tag teams that have ended up changing gimmicks, having multiple versions throughout their time together.

10 Edge & Christian

The Brood and a Five Second Pose

Edge and Christian are two of the greatest wrestlers of all time, and while they've had great singles careers, both men are well-known for their tag teamwork. Together, they created one of the best teams in WWE history.

Their over-the-top behavior, the five-second poses, and overall goofiness was something audiences loved. But their previous gimmick, as part of The Brood was certainly very different.

9 The Usos

The Usos - WWE

Much like Edge and Christian, The Usos are one of the greatest tag teams in WWE history. They've very much been tag team wrestlers throughout their careers, working together throughout their runs, but they have changed up their gimmick to stay fresh.

When they originally arrived in WWE, they were all about dancing around, with their face paint as pure babyfaces. However, when they switched things up and pushed the Uso Penitentiary, they showed a totally different dynamic to themselves which only made them more entertaining.

8 Epico & Primo

Primo and Epico Gimmicks

Epico and Primo are two very talented wrestlers, but the gimmicks that they had during their time in WWE never really allowed that to shine. Working as Los Matadores, they were at least featured on a regular basis, wearing masks and having El Torito by their side.

Then WWE switched things up and they became the Shining Stars. This was almost like a travel agent-style gimmick, and it's one that didn't really work. Nobody turns on a wrestling show to be convinced about a vacation spot.

7 Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder

When they were first introduced to WWE, they were brought out as a tag team, made to dress up like Edge and act as him as often as possible to help him win. The Edgeheads duo had their moments, but it was a gimmick done to enhance things for Edge.

However, later on in their careers after they were both established names, they were able to team up again with a new gimmick. They showcased their own personalities and thrived as a team, winning the Raw Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania.

6 Bradshaw & Farooq

Apa and The Acolytes

Bradshaw and Farooq were excellent singles wrestlers, but they were even greater as a tag team. Their hard-hitting in-ring style worked brilliantly for them, but they certainly changed up their gimmick at points in their careers.

The duo went from the dark and sinister character of The Acolytes to being the beer-guzzling protection outfit known and loved as the APA. Both versions were very successful though, and that's all down to their in-ring ability.

5 Cody Rhodes & Dustin Rhodes

Cody Rhodes and Dustin Rhodes in WWE and AEW

The Rhodes brothers Cody and Dustin have teamed up in both WWE and AEW, and each time they've had great success. Their original run as a team saw them working as Goldust and Stardust, with the facepaint and over-the-top characters.

However, when they came back together in AEW, they did so as two totally different wrestlers. Both being themselves, the duo was far more relatable and just as good in the ring.

4 The Godwinns

The Godwinns

Sometimes a gimmick change can work really well, giving a team a fresh style and look, but other times it can have the complete opposite effect. Unfortunately when WWE repackaged The Godwinns, the latter took place.

Originally, they were a very fun tag team, but the Attitude Era changed that up. WWE opted to make them work as backup to help Jeff Jarrett, putting them in suits and totally changing their personalities, which just did not click.

3 Mosh & Thrasher

Headbangers and The Flying Nuns

When fans think about Mosh and Thrasher, they instantly go to The Headbangers. This rock and roll style gimmick was a very popular one, with the duo also being more than capable in the ring.

The gimmick was a major improvement on what they'd been doing before though. Previously, WWE had them dressed as nuns (for some reason), which was a gimmick that was never built to last.

2 Luke Harper & Erick Rowan

Erick Rowan and Luke Harper

Luke Harper and Erick Rowan were first introduced to WWE together as a tag team as members of the Wyatt Family. With Bray Wyatt as their leader, the faction was incredibly entertaining and their dark characters were very engaging at the time.

While they both went on to enjoy some singles success, they were eventually brought back together to form the Bludgeon Brothers. While this gimmick was fairly similar, the difference here was that they didn't have a leader instructing them, and instead they focused on causing pure devastation.

1 Hardy Boyz

Hardy Boyz

The Hardy Boyz will go down in history as one of the greatest tag teams of all time, having put together some amazing matches, creating a strong connection with the fans along the way. Their Team Xtreme gimmick of being huge risk-takers was something that audiences loved.

However, when they both worked in TNA, the duo did change things up a little. The Broken Universe bringing out a totally different side to them with Broken Matt and Brother Nero gave them a new lease on their wrestling careers.
