From the moment that Kane debuted until the instant that Undertaker retired, The Brothers of Destruction remain tied together in wrestling history. They are fictional brothers, started as mortal enemies, became tag team partners and champions, and ended up as two of the greatest superstars in WWE history. Here is a look at the history of The Brothers of Destruction.

10 THE BACKSTORY

The history of The Undertaker started long before Kane ever showed up in WWE. Undertaker showed up with Paul Bearer; a demented mortician turned zombie monster heel turned championship title contender. He had a manager named Paul Bearer, and the two ran all over WWE for years. The backstory was not revealed about Undertaker for years, but it turned out that he set his family's mortuary on fire, and they all perished, turning him into this vengeful being.

9 PAUL BEARER BETRAYS UNDERTAKER

As WWE prepared to turn Undertaker's life upside down, it started with a betrayal. Paul Bearer, who had been with the Phenom almost since the start, and controlled the monster with the urn he carried, betrayed his client, and left him, taking the power that came from the urn with him. He took on new clients in Mankind and Vader and promised terrible things were coming for Undertaker, promising that his younger brother Kane survived the fire.

8 KANE ARRIVES IN WWE

The first appearance of the demonic Kane was at Badd Blood: In Your House. Paul Bearer, who admitted that he was the illegitimate father to Kane with Undertaker's mother, brought him to WWE to seek vengeance on the death of his mother and scars the fire left on him. Undertaker was battling Shawn Michaels in the first Hell in a Cell match, and Kane arrived, tore the door off the cage, and attacked his brother, allowing HBK to win.

7 UNDERTAKER REFUSES TO FIGHT BROTHER

However, after this attack, and even with Kane ruining Undertaker's hunt for the world title, the Dead Man refused to fight his brother. This did not stop Kane, who kept stalking his brother and costing him matches, attacking him at inopportune times, and otherwise provoking him.

The two ended up teaming up a short time later, but it was all a ruse by Kane, who once again attacked Undertaker. This all culminated with another world title match between Undertaker and Shawn Michels at the Royal Rumble in 1998. This was a casket match, and Kane interfered to cost Undertaker the match before lighting the casket on fire.

6 WRESTLEMANIA XIV

That was the final straw for Undertaker. He finally agreed to fight Undertaker, and this went down at WrestleMania XIV. Most people figured that the Kane and Undertaker storyline would end there when Undertaker beat his brother. Many thought Kane might end up leaving WWE after this, his usefulness ended. However, Kane caught on with the fans and not only remained, but got involved in title feuds himself.

5 BROTHERS OF DESTRUCTION - 1998

This led to the unholy union of the Brothers of Destruction in 1998. On an episode of Raw, Kane and Mankind attacked the new world champion Stone Cold Steve Austin. Kane ended up battling Stone COld for h te world title at King of the Ring 1998, and Kane won the title when Undertaker interfered and accidentally hit Austin. However, Undertaker revealed it was no accident, and he and Kane were now on the same page, and the Brothers of Destruction formed.

4 TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS - 2001

In 2001, The Brothers of Destruction looked completely different. Kane was wearing a different costume while Undertaker was now riding a motorcycle and calling himself the American Badass. The two teamed up shortly after the 2001 Royal Rumble and got a quick tag team title shot at No Way Out, which they lost.

Brothers Of Destruction

In 2008, the two brothers hit the top at the same time. Kane won the ECW Championship from Chavo Guerrero at WrestleMania XXIV, while Undertaker beat Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship at the same show.

The two brothers crossed paths again 2010 as top stars on SmackDown. That is when someone mysteriously attacked Undertaker and he ended up in a "vegetative state." Kane arrived and sought revenge for his brother. However, at SummerSlam that year, Undertaker returned, and Kane turned on him, proving to be the original attacker all along. During this time, Kane was also the reigning World Heavyweight Champion.

2 BURIED ALIVE

The betrayal of Undertaker by Kane culminated in a Buried Alive match at Bragging Rights in 2010. The story at this time was that Kane was now the stronger of the two, the little brother finally surpassing his big brother. The two fought at Night of Champions, where World Champion Kane beat Undertaker in a No Holds Barred Match.

Undertaker got another title shot at Hell in a Cell, where Kane won again when Paul Bearer returned and interfered on his behalf. Finally, at Bragging Rights, Kane beat Undertaker for the third straight month, this time in a Buried Alive match. Undertaker stopped working as a full-time WWE superstar after that loss and Kane was now the top guy of the blue brand.

By 2018, Kane was only working one or two matches a year, and Kane was now a mayor in Tennessee, neither man working full-time, and neither would again. However, Saudi Arabia loved to ask for legends to highlight WWE shows there.

In 2018, Crown Jewel saw the Brothers of Destruction team up one last time to face DX for the first time, with Shawn Michaels coming out of retirement for one final match. The match ended with DX taking the victory, ending Kane and Undertaker's WWE run together.
