WWE’s Women’s Tag Team Championship is unique among all of the company’s titles, as it can be defended across all WWE brands. In other words, if a team from Raw wins it, they must face competition with other women from that show, but also face teams from Smackdown, NXT, and NXT UK.

Given that cool element to the women’s tag titles, there doesn’t appear to be a lot of stiff competition as far as all-female tag teams clamoring to go after the title. With that in mind, here are ten pairs of WWE female stars that should team up to go after the Women’s Tag Titles.

10 Natalya & Beth Phoenix

In the early 2010s, Beth Phoenix and Natalya formed a duo called The Divas of Doom, where they teamed up to oppose the traditional beauty standards of what was then called the WWE Divas division. However, back then, there were no women’s tag titles. The two briefly reunited to go after the tag titles in 2019, but soon went their separate ways again. Keeping around a couple of veterans like Natalya and Beth Phoenix could do the division a lot of good.

9 Ember Moon & Kayden Carter

Provided Ember Moon doesn’t have a career-ending injury like many believe, she and Kayden Carter would make a perfect tag team. It has nothing to do with their wrestling style or anything like that but something more important -- they both wear intense contact lenses and kind of dress like Mortal Kombat characters. Unfortunately, when Carter was starting out in NXT, Moon was on her way out to the main roster. If they had really overlapped in NXT, they certainly would have been paired together as a team.

8 Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzales

Currently, the Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzales relationship is likened to a Shawn Michaels/Diesel situation, where Kai is the person trying to win matches and Gonzales is the heater whose size makes up for her partner’s inadequacies.

However, Michaels and Diesel also had a couple runs as WWF Tag Team Champions, so there’s nothing stopping Kai and Gonzales from using that same dynamic to tear up the WWE Women’s Tag division.

7 Isla Dawn & Scarlett

NXT fans haven’t seen much of Scarlett, the spooky manager of Karrion Kross, but it seems like most fans are into the gimmick. Over in NXT UK, they’ve got their own witchy character, Isla Dawn, who hasn’t quite yet taken off. What the WWE Women’s Tag division needs is two witches from different realms teaming up to cast a spell across the whole division, or whatever Mauro Ranallo would say to make it sound fun.

6 Kairi Sane & Io Shirai

There was a brief moment in the beginnings of the Women’s Tag division where it looked like The Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection were going to defend their titles against a team of NXT’s top talents, Io Shirai and Kairi Sane, also known as The Sky Pirates. That never happened, as WWE seemed to change its plans for the title. But it’s not too late for the Sky Pirates, as Sane doesn’t seem to have much to do as a Kabuki Warrior now that Asuka is busy with her own singles title.

5 Vanessa Borne & Aliyah

The cool thing about the Women’s Tag Team Titles is that now there’s incentive for women to team up instead of coming up with goofy ideas like being “co-champion” of a singles title. NXT’s resident “mean girl” duo, Vanessa Borne and Aliyah, are the latest heirs to the LayCool throne, and carry the pretty good team name of Bourne & Boujee. However, the pair have never challenged for the Tag Titles, and that should change.

4 Toni Storm & Piper Niven

Despite the title floating across all WWE brands, no team from NXT UK has ever challenged for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. The closest they’ve come is Dakota Kai and Tegan Nox challenging The Kabuki Warriors, but they were basically NXT domestic talent at that point.

A great pairing from WWE’s across-the-pond developmental promotion would be Toni Storm and Piper Niven, who are not only great wrestlers, but are canonically friends on the show. It’s a natural fit.

3 Ruby Riott & Rhea Ripley

If it feels tempting to want to pair of wrestlers with similar looks/styles, don’t feel bad, because that always has a lot of fun potential. Take, for example, a potential team-up between Rhea Ripley and Ruby Riott, who are both punk-type characters. As run in the tag division would especially help Riott, who’s kind of fallen by the wayside on the main roster. It was never clear why Ruby Riott the character hung out with Sarah Logan and Liv Morgan, but a Riott/Ripley team would be a great pair just for the alliteration alone.

2 Kacy Catanzaro & Nia Jax

Another great “big person plus small person” tag team pairing would be the most extreme in WWE, as Nia Jax is often a monster heel in a division where she stands out amongst smaller competitors, and Kacy Catanzaro is basically a Borrower in terms of size. But as a tag team, they could have a really fun dynamic, with the natural babyface Catanzaro being the one in peril until she tags in Jax for a big rush. It’s a team that would cover up the shortcomings of both competitors.

1 Shayna Baszler & Ronda Rousey

The other Four Horsewomen of MMA, Marina Shafir, and Jessamyn Duke, already functioned as a tag team when they were used on television, but the other half of the team would be a killer team. After all, both Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler are really imposing fierce competitors who can put on really great matches. As it stands, main roster WWE seems uninterested in Baszler, and Rousey’s wrestling career is a huge question mark, but there’s always a chance that the stars align in their favor.
