The Ruthless Aggression Era might not have been the greatest time for women's wrestling in terms of how seriously they were booked or the chance they were given. However, it was a serious step up from the Attitude Era and it saw some of the greatest female wrestlers in WWE's history compete for the company.

While they didn't get as much microphone time as the women thankfully do today, there were still opportunities for them at times. While some of the wrestlers thrived, proving themselves to be strong talkers, others weren't quite as skilled when it came to the promo side of things.

10 Natalya

Natalya WWE

Talking has never been Natalya's greatest strength, and that was certainly the case early on in her career within the Ruthless Aggression Era. Natalya has grown in confidence as a talker as time has developed though, becoming a stronger talker in the PG Era.

Thankfully, in-ring ability has never been a problem for Natalya, and that includes the early stages of her career. She's someone who can work technical and hard-hitting styles, but her promos were a little rigid at that point in her career.

9 Lita

LITA WWE

Lita might be someone who people primarily associate with the Attitude Era, but she was also heavily involved with the Ruthless Aggression Era at the start as well. Lita had some great matches during this period of time, but just like Natalya, talking wasn't her strong suit.

While she could cut a promo when needed, and a passionate one at that, it was never something she did a lot of. Lita often let her wrestling do the talking, and that worked out perfectly for her throughout her run.

8 Kelly Kelly

Kelly wasn't given tons of microphone time because of that, but when she did get to talk she could always deliver her message clearly. A fired-up babyface promo is something Kelly Kelly could always do well, and that is really where she got her best time to shine when it came to talking segments.

7 Melina

Melina was one of the greatest wrestlers from the Ruthless Aggression Era, and someone who really worked well inside the ring. Her athleticism and agility had her stand out, but she was also a good talker too. She was the mouthpiece for Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury for MNM before branching out on her own more.

While Melina wasn't the best in this period of time, she wasn't bad either. She could cut a convincing promo and tell a story effectively, especially when working as a heel.

6 Jillian Hall

Jillian Hall WWE

Jillian Hall is someone fans remember for being incredibly annoying, and the way she used to get that response was by her promos. WWE knew she was a heat magnet and pushed that idea even further with her singing gimmick.

Jillian was confident at talking and while she wasn't always put in the biggest storylines, her promos would always deliver and create a response from the crowd.

5 Torrie Wilson

Torrie Wilson was a huge part of the Ruthless Aggression Era for the women's division and is one of the most recognizable names from that period of WWE. She might not have been the strongest wrestler, but she could always give a great promo.

Torrie was someone who WWE pushed heavily into the story aspects of the product, relying on her to entertain people as much as possible. This is where she came alive, and her promos and backstage segments were always a strong part of that.

4 Maria

Mike Kanellis and Maria Kanellis

Maria was originally placed into a backstage role when she joined WWE, interviewing different wrestlers and that really developed her personality. She played the ditzy interviewer, which is a role that Maria really did a great job with.

She was always confident when she spoke and that allowed her to tell some fantastic stories across her career. Whether it was flirtation, comedy, or being serious, Maria was always very entertaining on the microphone.

3 Beth Phoenix

On the microphone, Mickie James has always been a strong talker, which is one of the reasons she has had such a great career. James was great at diving into the character aspect of wrestling, which is what put her over so strong. Her initial program with Trish Stratus really set her up for success in the WWE and she's continued that strong work throughout her career.

She could be a convincing babyface, having the fans feel sympathy for her, but she could also flip that and be a hated heel as well, showing great range across her career.

1 Michelle McCool

Michelle McCool WWE

Michelle McCool was the best talker during the Ruthless Aggression Era, with this being a major strength of hers. She could back it up in the ring, but when it came to talking, McCool could hold her own comfortably.

Her ability to trash talk other wrestlers is something that made her an amazing heel, which pushed her as one of the top stars in this era. She was always confident with her talking and that is where she thrived.
