Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker were the very first wrestlers to collide inside Hell in a Cell at Badd Blood: In Your House. Fans did not know what to expect, and arguably, Undertaker and Michaels' Hell in a Cell match has not been topped. Moreover, the Hell in a Cell match has become extremely popular amongst fans as it is a dangerous match, and traditionally it signals the culmination of a longstanding rivalry.

However, with 45 Hell in a Cell match in the history books, there have been some wrestlers who did not belong in a Hell in a Cell match. The likes of Triple H and The Undertaker have become synonymous with the Hell in a Cell match. Moreover, others who participated in a Hell in a Cell match looked out of place and had no right to be competing in this type of match.

10 Kevin Nash

Kevin Nash v Triple H Bad Blood 2003

Kevin Nash is a decent in-ring performer for his size but in 2003, Big Daddy Cool was not operating at the peak of his powers. Injuries piled up but at Bad Blood, Nash challenged Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship in a Hell in a Cell match with Mick Foley as the special guest referee.

Nash had a decent outing but his matches with The Game never seemed to click which hampered their rivalry. Mercifully, this was the final match in their three-match series, and Triple H continued his reign of terror.

9 Shane McMahon

Shane McMahon squaring off against The Undertaker

Despite not being a traditional in-ring performer, Shane McMahon boasts an impressive three Hell in a Cell match to his name. Shane O'Mac was involved in the dreadful three-on-two handicap match at Unforgiven 2006 alongside his father Vince, and ECW Champion Big Show against DX.

Shane returned in February 2016, and he clashed with The Undertaker in a mediocre Hell in a Cell match at WrestleMania 32. Shane risked his body and he crashed and burned when he missed the announce table from the top of the cell. He lost a third successive Hell in a Cell match to Kevin Owens in 2017 all thanks to Sami Zayn. Shane's involvement in Hell in a Cell matches has generally been for spots off the top of the cell which has been disappointing.

8 Big Show

DX v McMahons and Big Show Unforgiven 2006

The rivalry between The McMahons and DX, led to Big Show getting involved in the feud to give The McMahons a significant advantage. However, The World's Largest Athlete was humiliated in the three-on-two handicap Hell in a Cell match at Unforgiven 2006.

Show did get some offense but he didn't make an impact on the outcome of the match. DX was victorious but the reigning ECW Champion became a laughing stock when his butt was on show, and Mr. McMahon's head was shoved up there.

7 Mark Henry

Mark Henry Hell in a Cell 2011

There is a long list of wrestlers who have stepped inside the Devil's Favorite Playground and have never come away with a win. However, Mark Henry actually has a lone victory to his name when he retained the World Heavyweight Championship against Randy Orton at Hell in a Cell 2011.

Whilst, Henry cemented his spot as the reigning World Heavyweight Champion, his Hell in a Cell match with Orton was forgettable. It was pretty tame, and the match did not warrant a Hell in a Cell match.

6 Ted DiBiase

Ted DiBiase Hell in a Cell 2009

Ted DiBiase had tons of potential to make it as a main eventer in WWE but his career never panned out the way it should have. DiBiase competed inside the Hell in a Cell match alongside Cody Rhodes, and they clashed with DX in the inaugural Hell in a Cell pay-per-view main event in 2009.

Legacy had the early advantage with Triple H out of the equation but they failed to capitalize on their fast start to the match. Once, The Cerebral Assassin was back in the contest, it was one-way traffic with DX ending their feud with Legacy with a win. DiBiase's performance was decent but it was nothing to shout home about.

5 Rikishi

Rikishi Armageddon 2000

Surprisingly, WWE has only done one six-man Hell in a Cell match that took place at Armageddon 2000. Kurt Angle, Triple H, The Rock, The Undertaker, and Steve Austin are five of the all-time greats. However, Rikishi was the sixth man in the match and the only one who never won the WWE Title.

Rikishi did not belong in a match of this caliber, and his heel turn was an utter failure. He clearly looked like the odd one out, and it was a no-brainer that Undertaker would chokeslam him off the top of the cell to remove him from the equation.

4 Big Boss Man

Big Boss Man v Undertaker WrestleMania 15

Big Boss Man's return to WWE in late 1998 was underwhelming, and he was instilled as The Corporation's Head of Security. At WrestleMania XV, Boss Man clashed with The Ministry of Darkness' leader The Undertaker in one of the worst Hell in a Cell matches.

It was the first Hell in a Cell match to take place at WrestleMania but the affair was slow and methodical. Boss Man was clearly past his prime but his hanging by Undertaker was more memorable than the match itself.

3 Ryback

Ryback V. CM Punk Hell in a Cell 2012

Ryback certainly isn't afraid to speak his mind but quite frankly he wasn't the best in-ring performer. Somehow Ryback managed to have two Hell in a Cell matches in back-to-back years in 2012 and 2013 against CM Punk. The latter was a handicap match with Paul Heyman as his partner.

Nevertheless, it was virtually a one-on-one affair in 2013, and whilst Ryback looked decent in their 2012 outing, their second match did not need to be a Hell in a Cell match. It certainly wasn't a technical masterclass, and virtually made the Hell in a Cell gimmick look weak.

2 Mr. McMahon

Vince McMahon

The chairman of the board isn't afraid to get his hands dirty, and he even competed in a Hell in a Cell match at Unforgiven 2006. The evil genius also doesn't shy away from taking a beating that got handed to him by his son-in-law and Shawn Michaels.

McMahon wore the proverbial crimson mask, and he simply had no answers despite having his son Shane and Big Show as his partners. The crowd in Toronto certainly salivated at watching McMahon take a brutal beating.

1 Paul Heyman

Paul Heyman

The fact that Paul Heyman was technically involved in a Hell in a Cell match is laughable. Heyman turned his back on CM Punk in the summer of 2013, and he was now acquainted with Ryback. The 2013 Hell in a Cell event saw, Heyman paired up with Ryback to face off with Punk in a handicap Hell in a Cell match.

However, Heyman wanted no part of Punk and he was elevated to the top of the cell. Heyman literally stood on the top of the cell for the entirety of the match but that did not stop The Straight Edge Savior from navigating his way to Heyman after the match, and he attacked him with a kendo stick.
