The Anoa’i family. The Hart family. The Von Erich family. These are just some of the famous families that have made their mark in the sport of professional wrestling. Wrestling fans have seen brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, children and even grandchildren enter the sport and follow in the footsteps of their family members. While every second, third or even fourth generation Superstar is proud of their lineage, many wrestlers want to make it on their own without their father's family name, influence or physical appearance attached to them.

For professional wrestlers, it's paramount to stand out in the business. The worst thing a wrestler can do is portray a gimmick that has already been done. That's why many second generation superstars and beyond don't want to simply rehash the gimmick their father did before them. Despite many children of wrestlers wanting to have their own identity, many superstars can't shake the comparisons of their wrestling fathers.

Many sons and daughters of professional wrestlers are the spitting image of their dads, and that only adds pressure to have their father's gimmick passed down to them. Everyone expects Stephanie to act like her father Mr. McMahon, or for Tamina to be a carbon copy of her father "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka. While there are wrestling sons and daughter that have embraced their destiny, others have taken a different path despite looking just like their dad. Here, we showcase these generational superstars and analyse their looks in comparison to their wrestling fathers. In this article, we focus on 10 WWE wrestler sons and daughters who physically look nothing like their dads, and 6 who look exactly the same.

16 Colt Toombs (Same)

via twitter.com/ColtToombs

The wrestling world suffered a heavy loss every “Rowdy” Roddy Piper passed away. Piper was just the right amount of crazy to be that dastardly villain you loved to hate or that wild card babyface you just couldn’t help but root for. Even though "Hot Rod" may not be with us physically, his legacy lives on through the memory of his beloved fans and his loving family.

Piper’s daughter, Ariel and his son, Colton are keeping their father’s legacy alive by completing and publishing the memoirs of their father.

Not only is Colt keeping his father’s memory alive through his promotion of “Rowdy: The Roddy Piper Story,” he’s following in his father’s footsteps and competing in the squared circle via wrestling and MMA. There is definitely no mistaking Colt for Piper’s son. Not only does he have the splitting image of his father, but he’s got his heart and passion for the ring as well.

15 Noelle Foley (Different)

via via mysanantonio.com

It’s hard not to “have a nice day” whenever spotting Noelle Foley on her Instagram, with her dad on WWE Shop or promoting other WWE products and events. Noelle appeared with her father and the rest of her family on the WWE Network’s Holy Foley! and like her father, she has shown interest in becoming a future professional wrestler. Thankfully, Noelle looks far more like your average WWE women's wrestler than her toothless, earless flannel wearing father.

Although Noelle has taken advantage of her model good looks passed down from her mom, she has seemingly acquired her father’s interest in professional wrestling as well. Noelle is often seen backstage with many WWE superstars and her boyfriend is WWE superfan, “Frank The Clown.” Noelle definitely has Mankind’s down to earth and lovable personality, but Noelle’s model worthy physique makes it hard to believe that she’s related to any of the three faces of Foley.

14 Cody Hall (Different)

Scott Hall and his son

Scott Hall and his son, Cody, didn’t have the best relationship to say the least. Razor Ramon’s troubles with drugs and alcohol left him and his son estranged for a period of time. Thankfully, Scott Hall is getting help, and his relationship with his son has improved. Despite the rough life on the road that his father lived, Cody is following in his dad’s footsteps.

Cody may be wearing the iconic trunks and vest, but he doesn't look much like The Bad Guy.

Cody Hall is in the Japanese indies working in Pro Wrestling Noah, and had briefly been part of the Bullet Club faction in New Japan. Cody definitely has his dad’s swagger, smirk and machismo, but he also dwarfs his dad at 6’9” and lacks that slick widow’s peak. Here's hoping he lacks his dad's vices as well.

13 Grandmaster Sexay (Same)

via wrestlingfigs.com

Despite his best efforts and telling everyone he’s not Jerry’s kid, the cat’s out of the bag. “Grandmaster Sexay” Brian Christopher is the son of Jerry “The King” Lawler. Although that should make him royalty, Brian Christopher got completely over without mimicking his father, and was a part of one of the Attitude Era’s most entertaining tag teams, Too Cool.

Even though their gimmicks are completely different, outside of his goofy Grand Master Sexay character Brian Christopher resembles his dad almost to the T. They have the same bright smile, and Sexay is starting to have the same pudgy body type as his father as well. Brian Christopher may not have had the Hall of Fame career as The King, but he definitely has his ageless facial features.

12 Ted DiBiase Jr. (Different)

via forbiddenplanet.com

“Everyone has a price,” but apparently the price wasn’t high enough to keep Ted DiBiase Jr. in the WWE. Ted Jr. is the son of the legendary WWE Hall of Famer “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase and had a wide open future in WWE. DiBiase joined other next-generation superstars, Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes, to form The Legacy, but the fast push and great paycheck weren't enough to keep him in the same company that made is father famous.

Like his father, Ted Dibiase Jr. played the villain well in WWE but didn’t quite have the charisma or the iconic look of his father.

The Million Dollar Man’s trademark suits and stylish beard completely separated his character from that of his son’s. However, Ted Dibiase Jr. is doing just fine outside of WWE. He is happier and spending more time with his family and that alone is priceless.

11 Curtis Axel (Different)

via Pinterest.com

Curt Hennig’s son, Curtis Axel, could have adopted a similar gimmick to his father as the "Perfect Son" or some other play on "Mr. Perfect." However, Curtis Axel wants to be his own man and has only honored his father and grandfather (Larry "The Axe" Hennig) through his Curtis Axel ring name. Axel has created his own character with his own look and resembles his father in Perfectplex finishing maneuver only.

The long blonde locks, the towel toss and usual singlet of Mr. Perfect won’t be found on his son. Axel's long pants, fuzzy beard and short, dark (balding) hair are a far cry from the look of Mr. Perfect. Still, Axel retains much of his dad’s amazing skill in the ring and definitely deserves his spot on the main roster.

10 Amy Hennig (Same)

via Pinterest.com

Unlike her brother, Curtis Axel, Amy Hennig is embracing the family name. Amy is seemingly banking on her Hennig name and Hennig look to take her as far as it will go in professional wrestling. She is currently wrestling in the independent circuit, but there is no mistaking her for the daughter of WWE legend Curt Hennig. In fact, adopting the mirror image of her father may actually be hurting her chances to rise up in professional wrestling.

Amy Hennig looks like her dad already, but she has grown the curly hair out to match his look even more.

Unfortunately for Amy, this hasn’t helped her land any jobs with any major companies. Rumors have spread of Amy feeling entitled because of her family name, and her attitude has rubbed people the wrong way. Curtis Axel may not be in the perfect spot in WWE, but he's better off than his sister at the moment.

9 David Finlay (Different)

As it turns out, the entire Finlay family loves to fight and spans four generations. The most notable of the family is Fit Finlay whose father and grandfather were professional wrestlers before him as well. Moreover, Fit himself has three children, all of whom are following in the wrestling footsteps of the family also. Fit Finlay’s son, David Finlay, is currently wrestling for New Japan, but for better or worse, David looks nothing at all like his father.

While Fit Finlay has the short blonde hair and embraces his Irish heritage through his green wrestling singlet, David has let his dark hair and beard grow out and keeps his Irish heritage out of his wrestling attire. Despite his fourth generation lineage, David Finlay resembles his family members in name only.

8 Cody Rhodes (Different)

via marvel.com

While he carries the Rhodes family name, Cody is forging his own legacy in professional wrestling. Cody had everything to make it in WWE, mentored by Randy Orton, capturing the Intercontinental Title and carried the name of the legendary Dusty Rhodes. WWE embraced Cody’s lineage only to incorporate the character Stardust later in his career which largely ignored everything that could have made Cody great. Cody left WWE to create his own identity out of his father’s shadow and that shouldn't be too hard to do considering he looks nothing like him.

The American Dream’s gimmick was built all around the “common man” theme, however that’s not Cody’s gimmick and probably wouldn’t work for him anyway.

Cody pays homage to his father, calling himself "The American Nightmare" and has even dyed his hair blonde to match his father's. Still, Cody definitely has a much better look than that of the son of a plumber. Lisp aside, there’s very little of Dusty that is incorporated into the identity of Cody’s character.

7 Charlotte Flair (Same)

via pinterest.com

Unlike some Superstars that shy away from their fathers, Charlotte has completely adopted her father’s gimmick, and that’s not a bad thing when your father is "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Charlotte has donned her father’s robes, her father’s Figure Four Leglock, her father’s theme music, her father’s patented “Woo!” and has even donned her father’s signature grin.

Charlotte’s ring attire definitely mirrors that of her father’s, but her smile and blonde hair really bring out the Flair features. The Queen has that genetically superior DNA to make her fit the bill of wrestling royalty. Her similar look to her father is only going to be more appropriate with each passing year as Charlotte continues to make history in WWE just like her 16-time World Champion, WWE Hall of Fame father.

6 Randy Orton (Different)

via WWE.com

Randy Orton may have been the Legend Killer, but The Viper has become a virtual living legend of his own. He’s dwarfed the career of his father, “Cowboy” Bob Orton and has become a thirteen time World Heavyweight Champion.

Randy is a third generation superstar and has his grandfather, Bob Orton Sr., and especially his father to thank for his stellar career.

Vince McMahon was eager to push a very young Randy Orton, as Vince remembered the importance of Cowboy Bob Orton, who participated in the main event of the very first ever WrestleMania. However, not even Randy Orton’s father was able to do what Randy had accomplished in winning the WWE Title. In many ways, Orton stands alone, not only in success in WWE but in physical appearance as well. Unlike Cowboy Bob Orton, Randy had that young, arrogant look of a WWE Champion and that no doubt played a part in Orton’s success.

5 The Rock (Different)

via Pinterest.com

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will go down as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time and is easily one of the best trash talkers the sport has ever seen. The Rock is beloved by millions, and millions, of his fans and became a ten-time World Champion. The Rock took the WWE to new heights, but it was actually his father, Rocky Johnson, who was making wrestling history as part of the first ever African-American WWE Tag Team Champions.

Despite his dad making WWE history and coming from a huge wrestling family also, The Rock chose his own path and only made passing references to his father until he gained popularity.

Obviously, The Rock’s character worked out, but the fact that The Rock has his mom's Samoan heritage far more prevalent than that of his African-American dad probably made the decision to be his own man a little easier.

4 Tessa Blanchard (Same)

via charlotteobserver.com

Normally when a girl looks like her father, some could take that as an insult, but Tessa Blanchard, granddaughter of Joe Blanchard and daughter of Tully Blanchard, should take that as a serious compliment. Her dad was a rough and tough member of the original Four Horsemen, and while Tessa is also tough, she is extremely attractive even as she retains much of her father’s looks.

The younger Blanchard remains in the Independent Circuit wrestling for World Wonder Ring Stardom, but she is very talented in the ring and could be a huge part of WWE’s Women’s Evolution.

Like Charlotte and Natalya, Tessa has the respectable family name that could go far in the business, and she’s not shying away from it. She even has that tough Blanchard jaw of her father that gives her that powerful look which runs in the Blanchard family.

3 Natalya (Different)

via wrestlingnewz.com

Although WWE sometimes ignores this, Natalya is a member of the famous Hart wrestling family. Her dad is Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart ,while her mom is Ellie Hart, who is the daughter of Stu Hart. Natalya is also the first woman to graduate from the renowned Hart Family Dungeon wrestling school and is also the first female third-generation superstar. Needless to say, The Queen of Harts comes from a very distinguished wrestling family, and despite being a little on the husky side like her dad, Natalya still looks more like a Hart than a Neidhart.

Natalya retains her father’s name which gets brought up occasionally, but Natalya is so much more associated with her mom’s side of the family than her dad’s.

Natalya even uses a variation of Bret Hart’s theme. Not much of her dad goes into her character or her physical features which is in contrast with her mom, and the Hart side of the family. It wouldn’t have surprised many if WWE had simply called her “Natalya Hart.”

2 Jesse White/Jake Carter (Different)

via wrestlingnewscenter.com

“Oh, it’s time! It’s Vader’s son’s time!” That’s right, Big Van Vader has a son, and he just happens to be a professional wrestler too. Wrestling under the name Jake Carter, Jesse White, the son of Leon "Vader" White, signed with WWE and started working in their developmental territories, Florida Championship Wrestling and NXT. In fact, Carter even won the FCW Tag Team Championships with Corey Graves. Unfortunately, Carter was released from WWE in 2013 but has since taken bookings with other promotions. Carter is now using his real name despite looking absolutely nothing like his dad.

Vader was a huge monster of a man, and yet his agility made him one of the most athletic big men in the business. Jake Carter, or Jesse White as he wrestles under now, is not the monster his father’s character was. A maskless Carter is a very modest 6’2” superstar with and an average weight for a modern-day wrestler.

1 David Benoit (Same)

via twitter.com

It’s an eerie sight to see the son of Chris Benoit, David, not just because of the striking similarities but because of the things we all know the elder Benoit did. Despite the enormous shadow over him, David seemingly had ambitions to follow in his father’s footsteps. He had enrolled for a wrestling class, but for whatever reason failed to show up. Despite his lack of training, David was actually booked for a wrestling show until Chris Jericho put an end to it, fearing for Benoit’s safety.

Despite the lack of wrestling training, David Benoit remains in contact with WWE as he still has many friends within the company. While a career in wrestling appears to be several years off at the very earliest, the chance of David wrestling or even appearing in WWE is slim to none. The company is keeping its distance from any mention of the Benoit name, and who can really blame them? This is one time a wrestling family’s name and physical resemblance definitely work against the second generation superstar.
