The future of WWE lies in the hands of Triple H and Stephanie. Their status as the most powerful couple in wrestling will see it grow even stronger when they eventually take over for Vince McMahon. Stephanie and Triple H are the second and third most important people in the company as they set up the building blocks for the future of WWE moving forward. Some of their moves have seen them push forward the women’s evolution movement, sign Ronda Rousey, develop a developmental brand like NXT and create new international deals to develop make the company a global brand.

While all these things look positive, there are still some wrestlers and wrestling personalities that don’t believe Triple H and Stephanie are the right choices to run the company. Following the over three decade long run of Vince in charge of things, a few people in wrestling don’t have confidence in Triple H and Stephanie. 15 Can’t stand them: Rob Van Dam

The legendary run of Rob Van Dam will see him likely enter the WWE Hall of Fame one day. Between being arguably the biggest ECW star and translating that into a highly successful WWE run, Van Dam truly was “one of a kind” like his entrance theme suggested. Many pundits believe RVD could have had an even bigger career if he knew how to play the political game in WWE.

Quite a few important people backstage had issues with Van Dam and the feeling was returned. Triple H is someone that RVD clearly didn’t like when watching his shoot interviews following the end of his longest WWE run. Van Dam felt a weird vibe from Triple H and didn’t like how used the political landscape to hold down others. There’s a belief that Triple H refused to lose the World Championship to RVD, and it seems like RVD believes it from his quotes about him.

Stephanie McMahon also had an odd relationship with Van Dam.

Bruce Prichard revealed that RVD turned down a romantic storyline pitch regarding being involved with Stephanie due to his wife being against it. This hurt Van Dam’s standing and Stephanie likely wasn’t too pleased to hear about it. Van Dam also butted heads with Stephanie when she was upset about him reeking of marijuana backstage. The couple of Triple H and Stephanie clearly clashed with RVD leading to a negative relationship.

14 Loves them: Bayley

We could have put almost any member of the current women’s division on this list. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are the ones responsible for the women’s division growing from a joke into arguably the best part of the show. Both wanted to change the presentation of the ladies, but Vince McMahon shut down the idea. This all changed when Triple H had the chance to experiment with new ideas in NXT.

The women’s division started getting more time, having great matches and a movement started. Bayley is the best example of someone benefiting from getting the respect of Triple H and Stephanie. Triple H saw something special in Bayley and his booking made her one of the top face characters in wrestling. Fans wanted to see her succeed and felt genuine joy when she won big matches.

Bayley has revealed that she had very little confidence entering WWE. Triple H was one of the main reasons she started to feel comfortable. Bayley also mentioned Stephanie as giving input into her character to help her perfect it. Moving from working directly under Triple H to working under Vince McMahon has seen Bayley suffer for it. There’s still a lot of time left in her career and we can all agree she would benefit immensely from Triple H and Stephanie running the show. It also helps her cause that Hunter stated Bayley as the favorite wrestler of his daughters.

13 Can’t stand them: Vince Russo

Vince Russo saw his peak in wrestling come two decades when having the lead writer position. Under the guidance of Vince McMahon, the ideas of Russo were used to appeal to the generation of the fans that wanted an edgy product. Russo’s ideas were all over the place, but McMahon did a good job of going forward with the best ones. However, we saw a lot of his worst content with reliance of shock television.

Following the end of his WWE run, Russo has been a lost soul continuously failing in the wrestling business. WCW went from a failing company to a dying company when Russo took over. Impact Wrestling suffered similar fate with his various runs, including him being responsible for them losing their Spike TV deal which doomed them going forward.

Russo did have one more shot in WWE back in 2002. McMahon was ready to re-hire him, but Stephanie McMahon did not like his attitude and talked down to him in a meeting.

Their tension caused McMahon to choose his daughter over the controversial writer. Russo has trashed Triple H and Stephanie consistently since becoming a podcast personality. He believes they will be responsible for the death of WCW, but most believe this is because they have no interest in hiring him.

12 Loves them: Seth Rollins

The people running a major wrestling company need to have good relationships with the top talent. Even when there were issues, Vince McMahon always got along with Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan and just about every big name during their hottest runs. Seth Rollins is clearly bound to be a fixture at the top of the WWE card for a long time.

Once the part-timers and aging veterans like Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker and Kurt Angle all hang it up for good, WWE will have to completely rely on the current top stars. Rollins is the top prospect in the company after Roman Reigns, and many would argue he has a chance to pass The Big Dog given how 2018 has been trending for both wrestlers.

Triple H is the man that most believes in Rollins.

Their work together in NXT saw Triple H handpick Rollins as the person to represent the brand as the first ever NXT Champion. An on-screen relationship of Triple H being his mentor was quite similar to the behind the scenes relationship. Stephanie is also a big supporter of Rollins as she looks to build new stars for when she takes over. Reports indicate many wrestlers want Triple H and Stephanie to take over, and Rollins is likely one of them.

11 Can’t stand them: Kaitlyn

One instance of a wrestler recently having a negative relationship with Stephanie McMahon featured former Divas Champion Kaitlyn getting on her bad side. The two ladies had a negative relationship when Kaitlyn apparently made a bad decision. Reports circulated that Kaitlyn approached Stephanie backstage to ask her something while Stephanie was talking to another person. It engaged Stephanie to cause a scene. Kaitlyn coincidentally lost the title shortly after the exchange.

WWE even wrote an on-screen segment based on the backstage interaction. During a segment with all the women on the Raw roster interruption Stephanie’s in-ring discussion with AJ Lee, Kaitlyn was the one to feel Stephanie’s wrath. We witnessed Stephanie approach Kaitlyn and intensely say to never interrupt her again. The writers allegedly added this into the show to give a harsh message to Kaitlyn about her backstage mistake.

Kaitlyn chose to retire from WWE in her prime despite having a lot of years left in the tank. The main reason was to spend time with her new husband, but she has regretted that as the marriage ended in divorce. However, the timing of this all happening likely played a factor as well. There was speculation that Vince McMahon was the one to want Kaitlyn to win the Divas Championship while Triple H and Stephanie campaigned for others. If Kaitlyn never returns to WWE, we know why.

10 Loves them: Ric Flair

Ric Flair is a legendary wrestler that has a lot of loyalty for the McMahon family. The poor decisions of Flair throughout his career saw him in financial trouble after retirement. Flair made millions throughout his career but his extravagant lifestyle along with multiple divorces left him in a rough spot. The McMahon family lent him a lot of money to get back on his feet. While this was a Vince McMahon decision, Ric’s closer relationship with Triple H and Stephanie likely played a bigger role.

Triple H went to bat for Flair multiple times.

Vince was reportedly souring on Flair when he signed with WWE in 2001. Flair lost his confidence in WCW and was going through the motions with subpar work in WWE. Triple H requested Flair become his manager to start the Evolution faction and it saved his career. Flair had a relevant role in WWE again and started to feel like he still had “it” for the first time in years.

Both Triple H and Stephanie have embraced Ric’s daughter Charlotte like family as they push her as one of the faces of the company. Charlotte may very well be the most important wrestler of any gender going forward. 9 Can’t stand them: Hulk Hogan

One legend with less luck than Ric Flair when it comes to WWE is Hulk Hogan. The mistake of Hogan was far bigger than Flair’s as he unleashed a racist tirade in a tape leak. Hogan returned to the company shortly before this incident as he expected to spend the rest life under WWE contract. Once the Impact Wrestling experiment failed, Hogan was welcomed back to WWE as an ambassador making special appearances occasionally.

WWE stopped that once they got wind of the sex tape lake story coming. Hogan was fired a day before the tape leaked as WWE wanted to wash their hands clean of it. Vince McMahon has been prone to going against the public perception and media backlash of offensive things in WWE. However, times have changed with Triple H and Stephanie wanting a better image.

The hope of Triple H and Stephanie is to continue growing as a global brand, respected in both prestige and coverage. This means they can’t risk having someone viewed in such a controversial manner representing them. Hogan being fired was likely a move from Triple H and Stephanie. His relationship with WWE was always just discussing details with Vince, but the new changes have seen him paying for his actions.

8 Loves them: Kevin Owens

The hiring process of Triple H has completely changed the landscape of WWE. Despite the former reputation of being against independent wrestling talent, Triple H has been signing many of the top indie stars to join WWE. His project of NXT has grown from a show most fans forgot existed into a successful touring brand that provides good numbers for the WWE Network.

The signings of Kevin Owens, Finn Balor and Hideo Itami along with the world title feud of Neville vs. Sami Zayn was responsible for the biggest leap forward. Triple H realized how valuable these performers could be despite each lacking something that used to be considered part of the WWE signing process. Owens was the biggest surprise as he clearly isn’t a gym expert, nor does he want to be.

Triple H believed in Owens which led to him getting called up faster than expected, winning many titles and being a fixture on the show.

Stephanie McMahon also has a great relationship with him as she tends to grow closer to the NXT stars her husband helps develop. Owens literally thanked Triple H in the ring on a real life level during their scripted moment of Triple H helping Owens win the Universal Championship. During a funny recent life event promo, Owens named Stephanie McMahon among the mothers he wished Happy Mother’s Day to. KO is one person waiting for the power couple to gain full control.

7 Can’t stand them: Paul Heyman

The hostile relationships between Paul Heyman and the new regime in WWE have been well documented through the years. Heyman came over to WWE in 2001 after ECW went out of business, but he already felt at home when joining the bigger company. Unless most new employees, Heyman showed bravado by speaking his mind often backstage, which led to him growing heat with many wrestlers. Triple H was reported as someone that couldn’t stand Heyman.

One reason Triple H didn’t like Heyman was due to Heyman having a large ego despite ECW losing money and going out of business.

Triple H is someone that never appreciated what ECW offered as he respected the more technical aspect of the game rather than blood and guts. This was shown during a recent Axxess tour where he refers to ECW as a bingo hall at one point. Triple H even tries to deflect comparisons of NXT being like ECW as he’d rather fans view it as WCW.

Stephanie’s relationship with Heyman was even worse as she butted heads with him on the writing team in the early 2000s. There would be constant arguments between the two leading to a lot of tension. Stephanie reportedly took joy in firing him following the ECW brand failure. Heyman only returned to WWE due to his relationship with Brock Lesnar along with Vince McMahon having a soft spot for him. Expect him to leave once Brock’s deal is up unless he has formed a better relationship with Triple H and Stephanie.

6 Loves them: The Undertaker

One of the most important people in WWE is The Undertaker. It doesn’t matter that Undertaker only wrestles one or two matches per year and is heading towards retirement. The respect of Undertaker is pivotal for anyone in WWE backstage. If Undertaker disapproves of something, Vince McMahon would factor his influence into making a decision about it.

That makes it a great accomplishment for Triple H and Stephanie McMahon that Undertaker appreciates them as the next in commend. Undertaker was actually the one to make Triple H feel comfortable about going forward with the relationship in the early stages. The rest of the locker room was upset at Triple H becoming involved with the boss’ daughter and likely getting more perks.

The Undertaker was the locker room leader and told Triple H to date Stephanie if he was really in love with her.

Today, Triple H and Undertaker are two of the few wrestlers from the 90s still making the rare in-ring appearances today. Undertaker is reportedly supportive of Triple H and Stephanie being the people in charge whenever Vince McMahon gives up his role. We will likely see Undertaker remain in the WWE family with a Hall of Fame induction and other appearances when he truly retires.

5 Can’t stand them: AJ Lee

One talented women’s wrestling star to have a negative relationship with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon is AJ Lee. Before the NXT boom of women’s wrestling taking over, Lee started to make waves on her own. The character work in storylines with big names like John Cena, CM Punk and Daniel Bryan proved she could get over in a major way. WWE started to trust Lee with more opportunities due to this.

AJ had a great feud with her best friend Kaitlyn to become the Divas Champion. Her title reign had a lot of momentum and her fan base grew unlike any other woman in WWE for many years. Lee received merchandise on WWE Shop, which was unheard of for the women at the time. However, she always had a toxic relationship with Stephanie McMahon that grew worse over time.

The controversial departure of her husband CM Punk led to Lee working in an awkward environment.

At one point, AJ publicly called out Stephanie for being a hypocrite when Stephanie shared a feminist post by calling out a few sexist things in WWE. Stephanie gave a politically correct retort, but she was reportedly fuming. Lee clearly disliked Stephanie and grew to dislike Triple H due to his issues with Punk.

4 Loves them: The Rock

The Rock becoming a movie icon is one of the best things to happen to WWE. Even with all of his success, most people still choose to refer to Dwayne Johnson as The Rock due to remembering him from his wrestling career. Rock also doesn’t shy away from it as he’s quite proud of his work in the squared circle. One negative moment in his wrestling career was his backstage rivalry with Triple H in the 90s.

Both men were rising stars at the same time in a cutthroat environment. Triple H reportedly tried to sabotage Rock and always had jealousy issues regarding Rock being above him in the pecking order. There was heat on each side, but that has completely disappeared in recent years. Rock returning to WWE for a few matches and Triple H having an executive role saw them now making peace and becoming friends.

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon reportedly have a tremendous relationship with Rock today. The fact that they hired Rock’s cousins Roman Reigns and Nia Jax with huge pushes planned from day one likely added even more love. 3 Can’t stand them: CM Punk

As mentioned earlier, the issues between AJ Lee and Stephanie McMahon intensified due to CM Punk’s falling out with WWE. The departure of Punk is one of the most controversial stories in WWE history. Triple H and Punk always had tension going back to the early days of Punk joining WWE. Rumors circulated that Triple H often buried to the other wrestlers backstage during Punk’s matches.

Punk always held onto that grudge as seen with his infamous pipe bomb shoot promo.

Triple H being a target of Punk’s on the microphone continued all summer with savage lines on a weekly basis. It was obvious that Punk had a lot of thoughts stored inside him about Triple H that he was enjoying getting out. The two butted heads inside the ring and backstage for a few years until Punk left.

Punk stated that Triple H was one of the reasons he wanted to leave and scoffed at the idea of the two of them working together at WrestleMania XXX. Stephanie McMahon has become an enemy of Punk following his departure as she seems to enjoy ripping him on the microphone whenever fans chant for him in Chicago. Most wrestlers tend to come back to WWE due to Triple H and Stephanie having more power, but Punk is one that will likely stay away because of it.

2 Loves them: Finn Balor

One of the biggest changes that would happen in WWE under the full control of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon is Finn Balor being a huge top star. Triple H instantly saw something special in Balor when he joined NXT. It wasn’t too long before Triple H made Balor the face of the company during its most important chapter growing as a touring brand. Finn remained in NXT at Triple H’s request due to his trust in him as a top star.

Stephanie McMahon is also reportedly a huge supporter of Balor and views him as one of their top stars to build around.

A recent rumor indicated that Stephanie wanted Finn to portray a gay character as LGBTQ representation. Balor’s inclusive message with the Balor Club t-shirt sparked the idea, but Triple H was the one to shut it down. Triple H reportedly wants to keep Balor’s character the way it is without any changes as he clearly believes there’s a lot of money in it.

The fact that both Triple H and Stephanie have big plans in mind for Balor is a great sign for his future despite Vince McMahon being his biggest detractor. Balor grew close to Triple H in NXT as he learned the ropes of WWE and Stephanie has become another important person to warm up to him. Expect Finn to spend the rest of his career in WWE.

Scott Steiner is the most vocal wrestler when it comes to his hatred of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. The former WCW Champion was a respected wrestler for many years. From his work teaming with his brother Rick Steiner to the main event heel singles character, Scott did a lot of great things in his career. However, the failure for his singles WWE run in 2003 saw a negative mark on his overall perception.

Steiner’s horrible matches with Triple H doomed his WWE run and he never recovered. The various memorable interviews of Steiner through the years saw him claim Triple H tried to ruin the matches and hurt Scott’s career in the process. If true, it worked to perfection as Steiner was forgotten after the feud before leaving the company faster than expected.

You can never say never in wrestling, but Scott Steiner being blacklisted from WWE for the rest of his life is a safe bet.
