Professional wrestling has certainly come a long way in terms of the in-ring product over the last few decades, and the same can be said in regards to the world of pop culture and reality television. Unsurprisingly, the two worlds tend to mesh together quite well, and as a result of shows like Total Divas and Total Bellas, we’ve been able to take an in-depth look into the lives of many high profile wrestling couples.

It goes without saying that some are much more interesting than others, but in the grand scheme of things, that’s not what this list is about. Essentially, we’re just trying to take a lighter approach towards a topic which tends to divide the WWE Universe more often than not. Some believe that it’s great to see some of these guys and girls outside of the squared circle, whereas others would rather maintain the image they’ve got in their heads.

Of course, if the tables were turned all 20 couples here would likely come out with an emphatic “no” if asked the same question, and that’s completely understandable. As a result, don’t be surprised to see some extremely odd reasons behind their inclusions on the ‘would’ or ‘wouldn’t’ sections.

20 Would: Daniel Bryan & Brie Bella

via Popsugar.com

Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella have certainly been in the headlines over the last few years, from Brie’s pregnancy to Bryan’s retirement, to his return and beyond. They know how to keep themselves relevant and while we don’t exactly believe that they’re the kind of people who focus too much on that kind of thing, nobody can deny that they’re great at marketing themselves both as individual stars and as a couple.

With that being said, they really do come across as a legitimately fun couple to be around.

They have a busy life yet they seem to manage things quite well, they have fun together, and for the most part, they’re pretty laid back. We can picture having a pretty fun double date with these two, and if nothing else, can you imagine how many legendary stories from the road Bryan would have?

In terms of their in-ring careers, it’s looking more and more likely that Brie wants to stage an in-ring return following her venture into motherhood. While that may not be the best move given the quality of some of the female superstars on both Raw and SmackDown Live, we still admire her determination - especially now that Bryan is back doing what he loves.

19 Wouldn't: Triple H & Stephanie McMahon

via WWE.com

When Triple H ‘drugged’ Stephanie McMahon and married her on live television, very few people could’ve imagined they’d last this long as a couple. Some will argue that they’re only together for the sake of the company, but beyond all of the smoke and mirrors, it does feel like these two are legitimately still in love with one another. Of course, we can’t possibly know that for sure, but we’re confident enough in saying it.

Everyone knows about the accolades registered by Triple H over the course of his career, and you don’t need to hear us repeat them. On the other hand, Stephanie has been able to do some remarkable things during her time as one of the bosses at the head of the table - and it feels like things are only going to get better from here.

However, we wouldn’t prioritise them in a list of potential double date options from the world of professional wrestling. These two are so committed to the business, that you just know their phones would be ringing 24/7. It’d be tough to get a single word in without them talking about their many accomplishments in WWE, and on top of that, it sounds like they have a sleep schedule that’s reminiscent of Vince McMahon’s.

18 Would: Jimmy Uso & Naomi

While we can’t exactly say we know Jimmy Uso & Naomi’s relationship inside out, we’ve certainly been able to learn a great deal about them through their many appearances on Total Divas. The duo just seems to work well together both in terms of their chemistry and their ability to function as a couple, which is always something that needs to be taken into consideration. They aren’t immune from the occasional fight now and then, but who is?

You just know that if given the opportunity to go on a double date with them, they’d be a lot of fun.

Naomi is one of the most charismatic stars on the entire main roster, and you could argue that Jimmy is the male equivalent of that. Plus, and this can’t be understated, they’re both slowly making their way up the ladder both in the women’s division and the tag team division.

The Usos as a tag team have established themselves as one of the greatest WWE teams of the last few decades, meanwhile, Naomi’s rise has been nothing short of phenomenal. She went from being nothing more than a forgotten dancer to being SD Live Women’s Champion, and it all happened in quite a short space of time. They’ve both been able to appear on the main card of WrestleMania, and a lot of that is down to their own perseverance.

17 Wouldn't: CM Punk & AJ Lee

via Stapico.ru

We can appreciate that neither one of these individuals is still involved in the world of professional wrestling but come on, this is still a wrestling couple based on the fact that they met in WWE. While it always felt like they wanted to keep things quiet regarding their personal lives, Punk and AJ have used social media as well as The Evolution of Punk to peel back the curtain and allow people to see how they function on a day to day basis.

But before we delve into that, let’s just recognise how well they’ve both done for themselves. Punk followed up his career in WWE, which saw him become a multi-time world champion, by entering the UFC and also by becoming a comic book writer. AJ, on the other hand, revolutionised what it meant to be a female performer in the modern era before eventually going on to write her own book Crazy Is My Superpower.

Now, in terms of why we’ve put them on the wouldn’t list, it’s mainly because we’d really want to talk about their wrestling careers.

While AJ probably wouldn’t have a huge issue with that, Punk seems to flinch any time anyone even mentions WWE.

They come across as a couple who like to do their own thing, and we won’t deny them of that.

16 Would: Buddy Murphy & Alexa Bliss

Via WWE.com

We’ve only really been given a realistic glimpse into the lives of Buddy Murphy & Alexa Bliss over the last six months or so. While they’ve been together for much longer than that, their addition to the Total Divas crew has helped us to further understand more about their relationship. Sure, we still don’t know a whole lot in comparison to others on the show, but as with most wrestling couples, things aren’t exactly perfect. Still, that doesn’t mean we wouldn’t enjoy sitting down with them for a double date, because they seem like pretty interesting people.

Bliss is a quirky and down to earth girl who seems to be one of the more relaxed members of the women’s division, whereas Murphy is someone who has finally been able to break his way onto the main roster after spending so much time lingering down in NXT.

In the ring, Alexa continues to go from strength to strength, even though she’s not a part of the title scene right now. We can’t speak for them regarding how their actual relationship is doing from a percentage standpoint, but sometimes you just have to question how much that stuff really matters. When you’re on a double date, you have a good time with the other couple, and any issues are pushed to the side. It’s not a counselling session, people.

15 Wouldn't: John Cena & Nikki Bella

via lipstickalley.com

Yes, we know that both John and Nikki have come out and said the relationship is over, but we don’t buy it. We’re completely convinced that this is solely being done as a marketing ploy for the upcoming season of Total Bellas, and while that may not be particularly ethical, you can’t help but applaud them. Some will call their relationship manufactured, but there’s no doubting that wrestling fans are invested in the story.

But what is the actual story about, you ask? It’s about two people who have openly admitted that they’re quite self-obsessed, and yet, they’re trying to make a long-term relationship work.

The whole storyline leading up to WrestleMania 33 raised some questions regarding whether or not they actually did have genuine affection for one another, and twelve months on, we find ourselves asking the very same questions.

We may never get a definitive answer, and to be honest, we aren’t sure we care enough to receive one. Judging by their many dinner dates on Total Divas & Total Bellas, we aren’t that interested in engaging in a double date with these two. They’d probably be perfectly nice to our faces, but god knows what they’d be saying behind our backs.

14 Would: Dean Ambrose & Renee Young

Via CagesideSeats.com

If you’re compiling a list of people who clearly didn’t want to be on Total Divas, you can put Dean Ambrose right up at the top alongside the likes of Tyson Kidd and, to an extent, John Cena. However, Ambrose & Young’s relationship is one that had been (poorly) hidden from the public for months if not years - so it was refreshing to finally see them be open about the fact that they’re together.

They seem to really enjoy their time with one another, which is hardly surprising. After all, they both have great personalities, and we’re confident that it’d transition into us having a good time with them on a double date. Of course, we only got to see glimpses of what things are like behind closed doors, but we’re always going to question just how much of Total Divas is scripted compared to which parts are art imitating life.

As an announcer, of sorts, Renee has been able to establish herself as one of the most entertaining characters outside of the superstars themselves. We’d do anything to get Talking Smack back because that show was the definition of ‘best for business’. Unfortunately for Dean, he hasn’t been seen on WWE television for quite some time due to a recent injury, although we’re hopeful that he’ll be back sooner rather than later.

13 Wouldn't: Brock Lesnar & Sable

Via Frostsnow.com

Brock Lesnar is a scary, scary man and if you disagree with that, then you’re either delusional or you have balls of steel. The Universal Champion has been on top of the WWE ladder for well over a year now, and in truth, he’s probably been the main man ever since he returned back in 2012. He’s rarely injured, he’s a big money draw, and whenever he shows up, fans will usually tune in to see what happens.

Then you’ve got Sable, who we only really see on rare occasions such as when Brock has a big fight in the UFC. Together, they seem to be happy with their lives, although we’re going to direct you back to our initial point as a reason for why we don’t want to go on a double date with them: Brock Lesnar is absolutely terrifying.

If you even looked at him the wrong way he’d probably throw you from here to Delaware, and that’s not a situation we want to find ourselves in. Plus, given how much money he makes, we’d expect him to sort out the bill - but do you want to be the person who has to bring that up with him? We most certainly don’t.

It’s not like we hate the guy or anything, and Sable is probably a perfectly calm individual, but there’s a reason why so many people claim that he hates public interactions.

12 Would: The Miz & Maryse

When you’re on the verge of premiering your own spin-off show, you know that you’re doing something right. The Miz & Maryse were reportedly always quite interested in being featured on Total Divas, although, for a few years, it didn’t seem like it was going to happen. Now that it has, we’ve been able to witness the growth of WWE’s new favourite power couple in all of their glory.

Miz comes across as the biggest babyface known to man, with Maryse’s antics often making for great television. You can just tell they thrive in front of the camera, and while that may be taken the wrong way by some, it’s by no means a bad thing.

They’ve opened up their lives to us in a very personal way, and you can feel that whenever they’re on screen.

Maryse is currently at home caring for their firstborn Monroe, as The Miz continues his upward trajectory with the WWE Championship being firmly in his sights. He’s had a great run since WrestleMania 32 as the guy who re-established the legitimacy of the Intercontinental Championship but let’s face it, he’s far too good to be stuck in the mid-card - and he deserves to hold the world title at least one more time.

11 Wouldn't: Rusev & Lana

On Total Divas, Rusev and Lana are pretty hilarious together - although it seems like they don’t really agree on, well, anything. Their relationship has always been one that fans have been fascinated with, mainly because of The Bulgarian Brute’s growing popularity as well as Lana’s growing fanbase. With that being said, we aren’t particularly interested in engaging in a double date with them.

Why? For the reasons we’ve just mentioned, essentially. While we’d be focused on having a good time, they’d probably be too busy getting into an argument over every single little thing. Perhaps Rusev wants to order something that Lana thinks he shouldn’t, or Lana says something that Rusev finds outrageous.

Whatever the case may be, it probably wouldn’t wind up being a very enjoyable evening.

Still, that doesn’t mean we can’t point out what they’ve done in the ring. Lana is best suited to being a valet, which is something that very few people will disagree with, whereas Rusev is slowly trying to establish himself as a main event player on SmackDown Live. He’s been treading water ever since holding the United States Championship, and it’s time for a change.

After all, it is Rusev Day.

10 Would: The Undertaker & Michelle McCool

Via Sportskeeda.com

You won’t find many wrestling veterans who are as well respected as The Undertaker. His presence in this business over the last three decades has been instrumental to the growth of WWE, and while he may have never been viewed as ‘the guy’, you can bet that his WrestleMania streak has been the ‘get out of jail’ card for WWE on more than one occasion.

On the other hand, you’ve got Michelle McCool, who has always come across as a really likeable figure - outside of the ring, of course. In her role as the arrogant heel alongside Layla, she was able to carry the torch forward for the women’s division in an era of great uncertainty. Together, these two have done remarkable things for the business, and they seem to be a match made in heaven in more ways than one.

While sitting across from The Deadman at the dinner table would undoubtedly be an intimidating experience, it’d also be an incredibly fun one, too.

In this ‘scenario’, if they’ve agreed to have a double date with us, then we’d imagine they’d be open to sharing some of the stories from their careers. Either way, they seem like a couple who know how to have a good time, which always makes for great dinner conversation.

Are we overthinking this? Probably.

9 Wouldn't: Jeff Jarrett & Karen Jarrett

via wikimedia.org

Jeff Jarrett, in more ways than one, is a visionary. He’s someone who doesn’t tend to give up on his dreams very easily, and that’s a commendable attribute to possess. He may never have been ‘the guy’ in WWE and he may never have even come close, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he wasn’t successful. After all, for many years, TNA was seen as the primary alternative to watching WWE programming.

Then you’ve got Karen Jarrett, who is an interesting yet controversial figure in her own right. Following her relationship with Kurt Angle, it seems as if more eyes than ever were on her as she entered a marriage with Jeff. She became much more than just his wife, as she assumed control of things both behind the scenes and in the ring as a more low-key version of Stephanie McMahon.

We appreciate them, and we respect them, but we don’t want to go on a double date with them.

They may not be the egotistical people that they portray themselves to be on screen, but we aren’t sure that we’re overly keen on finding out. Nobody can ever be sure of someone’s personality based on what they’re like in front of a camera, and we realise that, but it’s still a no from us.

8 Would: Cody Rhodes & Brandi Rhodes

When they were with WWE, Cody & Brandi Rhodes weren’t really considered to be important parts of the company. Brandi was a capable announcer, whereas Cody was a mid-card guy who wasn’t being given a chance to force his way further up the ladder. Now, however, they find themselves on the verge of history after selling out their upcoming All In show which will have 10,000 fans in attendance in Chicago.

It’s been a remarkable journey for two people who, in many ways, have always possessed the tools necessary to reach that next level. They’ve always seemed like down to earth people who realise the magnitude of what they’ve been doing, but beyond that, they also seem like a couple who thoroughly enjoy spending as much time together as they possibly can.

We’ve only seen snippets of their relationship on social media, but with all of their upcoming projects set to blow the wrestling world away, it feels like we’re going to get to see even more of what they’re like away from the squared circle.

It’s easy to picture having a good time with Cody & Brandi, mainly because they’ve already proven themselves to be incredibly accessible and entertaining people to the many fans they’ve encountered since leaving WWE.

7 Wouldn't: Travis Browne & Ronda Rousey

Via People.com

Once again, we understand if you aren’t on board with calling these two a ‘wrestling’ couple, but we’re going to go ahead with it. After all, Ronda’s days inside the octagon are well and truly over, and Travis has been spotted at the WWE Performance Center on more than one occasion. He may just be there to cheer Rousey on and support her, but given the state of his own MMA career, it feels like there’s more to it than that.

Rousey is quickly establishing herself as one of the future leaders of the women’s division, and there’s something great about that as a sentence. Why? Probably because she’s already showing how much potential she has, but also because there are so many possible storylines and feuds that come with it.

Beyond that, however, we aren’t going to invite them on a double date anytime soon - because come on, have you seen how she handles questions about her past? Ronda herself has claimed that it’s a ‘privilege’ to hear her speak, and while we kind of agree with her, it doesn’t help her public image all too much. Plus, judging by the recent footage of his interaction with Alicia Fox, Browne doesn’t seem like the most approachable individual in the world.

6 Would: Mike Kanellis & Maria Kanellis

Via StillRealToUs.com

In the blink of an eye, it seems as if Mike Kanellis & Maria Kanellis’ on-screen relationship came and went quicker than you can say ‘love’. Obviously, a big reason for that was Maria’s pregnancy, although Mike’s issues behind the scenes have also been well documented. He suffered from an addiction issue that seemed to plague his personal life, but now, everything appears to be getting right back on track.

Maria has always seemed like a cool girl away from the ring, and Mike seems like a guy who is just happy to be living out his dream.

That almost always translates into someone who is great to be around, and given that they’ve recently become parents, why wouldn’t they be over the moon with how life is going?

Mike is mainly being utilised as a jobber in his current role, but if Maria comes back into the fold over the next few months, we can see that changing pretty quickly. It’s not like things will turn around for him overnight, but just look at what Maryse did for The Miz when she returned the night after WrestleMania 32. Valets don’t always work, but Maria is someone who belongs in that role.

5 Wouldn't: Rowe & Sarah Logan

Via: Squared Circle Sirens

As a couple, Rowe & Sarah Logan are both incredibly new to the scene in WWE. They’ve been honing their craft on the independent scene for a long time, but only recently have they both been signed to the company together. They recently announced that they’re engaged to be married, and given how little we know about them, it seems like they’re going to have a long and happy life together.

Alas, that last point is also the reason why they’re on our ‘wouldn’t’ list - because we just don’t know that much about them. Obviously, that rule can apply to pretty much everyone we’ve spoken about thus far, but the star power of the other names included means that Rowe and Sarah Logan will, unfortunately, miss out on our incredible wit and banter.

Yes, we are joking about that, because soon enough they’ll be thriving stars both down in NXT and on the main roster. The War Raiders have bucket loads of potential, meanwhile, Logan is continuing to grow and learn as a performer with each and every passing day. Some will argue that she’s been promoted to the main roster too quickly, but she’ll learn a lot under the guidance of Ruby Riott.

4 Would: Booker T & Sharmell

Via: Pinterest

Aside from when she used to yell ‘KING BOOKAH’, we haven’t seen all too much of Sharmell on WWE television. She’s made one or two appearances at the WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, but aside from that, she’s kept herself largely out of the limelight since walking away from her role as a valet for Booker. The man himself, however, constantly seems to be featured on pre-show panels and, occasionally, as a commentator on Monday Night Raw.

But aside from their personal lives, we’d absolutely love to sit down with Booker & Sharmell to see what it’s like being one of the very few examples of a successful wrestling couple.

Whenever they’re pictured together it seems to be all smiles, and who can blame them? They’ve managed to orchestrate successful careers for themselves, and they’ve lived to tell the tale. We don’t mean that in a literal sense, by the way.

Obviously, Booker’s days as an on-screen personality should probably be coming to an end soon, but that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate his past accomplishments. In fact, he should be celebrated for everything that he’s done in this business because very few guys have enjoyed the kind of longevity that he has.

3 Wouldn't: Tyson Kidd & Natalya

Via CagesideSeats,com

As an in-ring performer, Tyson Kidd had so much more to give to professional wrestling. His injury was heartbreaking to see not only for him personally but for the millions of fans who loved seeing him do what he does best. On the other hand, Natalya is finally starting to find her feet as the babyface veteran following months of her suffering from a combination of poor booking and the rise of other women around her.

Now, with that out of the way, let’s talk about their relationship as shown on Total Divas. We’ve alluded to the fact that Tyson Kidd quite clearly never wanted to be a part of the show in the first place because let’s face it, the guy looked miserable every single time he was shown on screen. We have no idea what things are like behind closed doors, but based on what we’ve seen, we don’t really want any part in it.

To put it as bluntly as we possibly can, Nattie comes across as someone who is, legitimately, absolutely mental.

Her entire family are a bit odd, she’s a crazy cat lady, and somewhere in the middle of all that, you’ve got Tyson Kidd. While we’d be completely fine with turning back time and seeing Kidd wrestle in the ring, what we’re not okay with is the prospect of awkward dinner chit-chat.

2 Would: Edge & Beth Phoenix

Via Diva-Dirt.com

Edge is a guy who has had a complicated past when it comes to relationships, and the main reason for that falls at the feet of former WWE Diva Lita. We all know the story behind their real-life ordeal involving Matt Hardy, but we aren’t here to talk about that. Instead, we’re here to talk about something much more positive: his fantastic marriage to Beth Phoenix.

Whether they’re out in public together or Edge is talking about Beth on his podcast, it’s clear for all to see that they’re in a great position right now. They come across as a couple of jokesters at heart, and they seem to have found the perfect balance between work and spending time together as a family. Plus, and this should really go without saying, they were both tremendously successful as WWE superstars.

Edge is a multi-time world champion after first establishing himself as a tag team & mid-card star, whereas Phoenix re-defined what it meant to be a dominant and beautiful champion in the women’s division. Her physique was something we’d rarely seen from a female competitor, and while there were a few hiccups with the way they were both booked at times, they’re deserving members of the WWE Hall of Fame.

1 Wouldn't: Matt Hardy & Reby Sky

Via Diva-Dirt.com

Matt Hardy, aka Woken Matt Hardy, aka Broken Matt Hardy, has one of the greatest comeback stories in WWE history. It seemed as if there was ’no chance in hell’ of him returning to the big time, especially given how turbulent his first few years post-WWE were. Then, in the span of just a few months, the wrestling world was singing his praises yet again due to the creation of his new character.

Since then, he’s been on fire, but the question remains: where does the gimmick begin and end? We wonder just how ‘wonderful’ Matt would be away from the ring because let’s be honest, that’s a persona that’ll stick with you. Still, while that may be an issue at the back of our mind, an even bigger one stems from how Reby Sky has been coming across on social media over the last few years.

She seems like someone who has the definition of a short fuse, and that isn’t exactly something we want to deal with when we’re trying to enjoy our dinner or perhaps some after-dinner drinks. Who knows, maybe she has things completely under control, but we aren’t risking our Appletini on it. Not now, not ever.
