John Cena has been synonymous with the WWE for over a decade now because of how he's climbed to the very top of the company in all these years and established himself as "The Face" of the company. He's not only on the top matches on the card of WWE's events, but is also often advertized in behalf of the company as Vince McMahon has always shown great faith on him and Cena has repaid by making for a positive public image for himself and for the WWE with his amazing work inside and outside the company.
While ”Super Cena" might be a seemingly good guy because of his "Make A Wish" grants reaching mainstream news recently, but he also has a dark side to himself which neither he nor the WWE would want the fans to forget. Cena has the reputation of being quite influential in the locker room and often makes things go his way and has the history of burying some talent in the WWE because of personal conflicts.
There are certain things about Cena which he'd want the fans to forget about himself, as these could hamper his on-screen and of-screen character's reputation and put a dent to his following in the company. Here are 15 things "The Face That Runs The Place"(no, not AJ Styles) would want the fans to forget.
15 Crapping Himself During A Match
John Cena has been one of the most hard-working guys for the WWE in his years in the company, as he always puts in the shifts and turns up anyplace, anytime in order to entertain fans. And when we mean that nothing can stop him from turning up, that really means nothing as Cena actually crapped himself during a match because of turning up with a bad case of food poisoning. John recited the story on an episode of "Total Divas" where he spoke about how he wrestled one event when he was having food poisoning, and ended up crapping his pants during the match. However, he has also recited another version of the story earlier when he spoke about how it happened when he was wrestling Scott Steiner, as he had to roll under the ring and puke under the ring because of how sick he was feeling, also ending up crapping his pants at the time as well. Regardless of whichever is true, that's quite the embarrassing situation someone could end up in, as the 15-time World Champ would definitely not want his fans to remember that disastrous moment of his life.
14 Slapping Stephanie McMahon's Booty
Okay, so John Cena has done plenty of goofy things in his WWE career and was quite the prankster in his early days as the "Doctor of Thuganomics", as Cena would often diss people and so dirty things to them. This included the then- Smackdown General Manager in Stephanie McMahon, who had her segment on an episode of Smackdown hijacked by Cena who was in the arousal mood. Cena's flattery got the attention of Stephanie, who actually allowed him to slap her butt after Cena has rhymed something in those lines, as it was something which was actually shown on WWE TV as it was during the more lenient Ruthless Aggression era. Now this is something neither the WWE nor Cena would want the fans to remember, as his problems with Stephanie's authority over the years has been showcased and this is something which is too dirty for the Cena fans to watch their hero do, as some of the Doctor of Thuganomic's deeds are dirty enough for Cena to want to erase them.
13 He Is Quite The Party Animal In Real Life
While John Cena can boast of working almost 24x7 for the WWE, even he has his own personal life and hobbies outside the company and despite whatever he looks like in WWE TV, he is actually a cool dude in his real life. Not only that, but Cena is actually quite the crazy party guy in his personal life as some of his co-workers have stated about just how much he can drink and still have the energy to have a good time. Cena is a hard-core party animal when in the mood, as some pictures have surfaced over the years on how he loves to party hard with his friends and loved ones as pictures of him getting a "lap-dance" from his girlfriend also surfaced in the internet a few years ago. Cena has the reputation of being quite the "PG" character on WWE TV, so he'd definitely not want the fans to see this side of him which is anything but "PG" as Super Cena is actually quite the crazy guy in his personal space.
12 His First Wrestling Gimmick
While John Cena attained his popularity mainly due to his "Hustle, Loyalty & Respect" gimmick, he had to take his time before he could become something relevant in wrestling and found it difficult to get his own suitable character in his early years in wrestling. Before joining the WWE, Cena was in a promotion named "Ultimate Pro Wrestling" where he began his training to become a pro wrestler, and here he got his first wrestling gimmick in "The Prototype". This would be a blonde haired, semi-robotic character where Cena looked pumped up as hell in his physical form but looked quite awful with the get-up and the mannerisms of his character. Cena is the inspiration for many kids nowadays, as he'd definitely want everyone to forget about or not know about the Prototype character which was plain awful as Cena looked like a joke those days where he was still getting the hang of wrestling.
11 He Has Never Pinned The Boss
While John Cena has the pleasure of boasting that he has pinned or submitted almost every notable superstar in the WWE during his time, he's never defeated the ultimate evil, The Boss, Vince McMahon in the ring, as the two have faced on two occasions in the WWE. He first fought McMahon in a match in 2006 in which Vince got himself disqualified and then had Triple H beat Cena up. They faced again in a Gauntlet match about four years later, which Vince won because of help from other superstars, as Cena might boast of taking out all the corrupt authority figures in the WWE and pinning them down, but he hasn't been able to do so to the ultimate authority figure in Mr. McMahon and would want fans to forget this fact as it could hamper his reputation of "Super Cena" quite a bit.
10 He Buried Zack Ryder
John Cena has the reputation of killing the momentum and push of quite a lot of superstars over the years, but the way in which he killed the push of Zack Ryder and buried him effectively was pretty awful. So Ryder was on the back of winning the US Title and was very over with the fans, but he became a part of Cena's feud with Kane(who started the embrace the hate gimmick) as Ryder would lose his US Title and then be beaten up badly by Kane. On top of that, Ryder was also dating Eve Torres in WWE at the time and Eve kissed Cena(who didn't show any signs of retaliation), leaving Ryder shell-shocked. Zack would be pushed down the entrance ramp by Kane later on, effectively sending him to the sidelines as Cena would go onto win his feud with Kane as well, leaving poor Zack to become a jobber after his return from "injury" and he'd never get that amount of popularity in his career as Cena would definitely not want the fans to know about this burial, which might be more of creative's fault than his own, but he did play a big part in ending Ryder's promising run.
9 He Lost To Kevin Federline
John Cena might be regarded as everyone as "Super Cena" because of his ability to somehow win all his matches, but he has also taken some bad losses in his WWE career, but nothing can top that one which he took to Kevin Federline. The ex-husband of Britney Spears took the fight to Cena in 2007 when he screwed Cena off becoming double champion, making for a match between them on an episode of Raw. That quickly became a No DQ match, as Federline got a lot of help from Johnny Nitro and later on Umaga before managing to pin the WWE Champion 1-2-3! This was quite the humiliating loss for Cena and will always remain as a dent in his career, as he'd definitely want this loss to be forgotten by the WWE fans as it has remained as a shameful thorn at his side ever since.
8 He Has A Terrible SummerSlam Record
While John Cena might have a great record in the top Pay-Per-View events of the WWE in the likes of WrestleMania and the Royal Rumble, the same cannot be said about his SummerSlam record which has been pretty poor over the years. His last win at the hottest event of the summer came in 2010 when he played a part in defeating The Nexus, as Mr Hustle, Loyalty & Respect has gone onto lose all his matches in the event ever since. It started with his loss to CM Punk at SummerSlam 2011, as he went onto lose to the likes of Daniel Bryan, Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins in the next years and most recently loss to "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles to end their feud. Cena wouldn't want the fans to remember this horrible stat about him, as his name as the top star of the company can be hampered by this fact which goes onto show that even a "Superman" like him has to take his falls.
7 His Alliance With Bull Buchanan
John Cena always boasts of being a one-man army who needs no-one else's help to get to the top of the ladder, but he'd definitely want the fans to forget about the character of Bull Buchanan if he's to keep boasting of that "fact". Bull Buchanan was the enforcer for Cena during his "Doctor of Thuganomics" days as Buchanan would keep on accompanying Cena for a long time, helping to finish Cena's free-style raps with a "Boo-Yah!" of his own to make it all the more awful. They'd eventually have a fall-out later on, helping Cena realize that he doesn't really need anyone in his corner anymore as he went onto become the face of the company and achieve a lot of records on his own. But he'd want fans to keep Buchanan as a rather forgotten figure, as Buchanan was someone who only held him back in his career and that part of his career is something he'd want the fans to not remember.
6 He Went Through A Bad, Public Divorce
John Cena's personal life has been under the microscope ever since his relationship with fellow WWE colleague Nikki Bella went public and the two's relationship started being shown in the reality show "Total Divas", but Cena had some terrorizing years before that as his marriage with his high-school sweet-heart Elizabeth didn't go well at all. Among rumors of Cena having affairs behind her back, he filed for divorce in 2012 and to make it all the more worse, his personal trauma was mentioned in WWE TV during his feud with The Rock which itself got very personal, with the Rock bringing that up as well. His divorce is something Cena would want to stay personal, as he'd want fans to forget about that time period of his life which is strictly a very intimate and personal thing and he'd rightfully want the fans to not know much about it in the first place.
5 THAT Match Against Brock Lesnar
John Cena might have the reputation of being a "Superman" because of his inability to take many losses in the WWE, but he has taken some bad losses when he had to lay down to put somebody else over, but none can match the beating he took from Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam 2014. Cena had put his WWE World Heavyweight Title on the line against the Beast who was hot off breaking the Streak at WrestleMania XXX, and the result of the match was something nobody could expect. Lesnar absolutely laid into Cena that match, delivering sixteen suplexes and two F-5s as Cena was almost helpless throughout the match and couldn't do anything to rattle Lesnar. He finally lost the title to the Beast in a match which stunned everyone, as that match is something which Cena would hope to be forgotten by the fans as it absolutely hampered his reputation as THE top star of the company as the result obviously saw Lesnar overtrump him to that place.
4 His Affair With Mickie James
John Cena might be "Mr Hustle, Loyalty & Respect" in the WWE, but it's rather certain that he isn't that good and innocent in his real life as he has buried many a wrestler because of his personal dislike for them and done some bad things in his personal space as well. That includes having affairs with other WWE Divas, and this included WWE Diva Mickie James who he dated when they were together in Smackdown! This was when Mickie was dating Kenny Dykastra of the Spirit Squad, as Kenny would be transferred to Raw because of him voicing about the affair and later got released. Their affair would stretch for quite-sometime before Cena broke it off when James wanted to take the extra step, as this would make James flip out and she'd later be released from the WWE as well. Cena is quite the douche when it comes to relationships, as he was quite the jerk in real life during that time and made others pay for his mistakes, as he'd want the fans to forget about that part of his life and his affair with James.
3 He Played A Big Role In Burying The Nexus
The Nexus were quite a force to be reckoned with when they debuted in the WWE in 2010 and hunted down the top guys at the time, but that was before they met John Cena. Cena would be their prime target, as they attacked him numerous times before he assembled his own team for SummerSlam, in which the originals plans were for the Nexus to go over. But Cena would not have that, as he demanded that his team win the match and even after taking bad bumps throughout the match managed to pin most of the members and win the match for his team, burying the Nexus and destroying their momentum. He'd then go onto bury Wade Barrett as well, as Cena's horrible selfishness and backstage influence has destroyed the careers of many promising superstars and would want the fans to forget about how he destroyed the Nexus from becoming something big in the WWE, as a little bit delving into his tendency to bury talents would destroy his image in the WWE.
2 He Is Taking A Similar Path To Hollywood Like The Rock
When John Cena had that heated feud with The Rock before their first match at WrestleMania XXVIII, Cena had persistently mocked on how the Rock had taken his ball and gone to Hollywood when he attained a bit of mainstream popularity and showcased his hate for the great one for doing so. Ironically, Cena seems to be doing the exact same thing right now as he has appeared in some Hollywood movies over the past few years and as he hosted SNL recently, it seems like he is also heading the direction in which the Rock did over a decade ago. Cena has been speaking about how he'll never leave the WWE for Hollywood, but with the stacked competitions and changing times, he might take the career-change if the right opportunities come his way in the next few years. But Cena wouldn't want fans to realize his transition, as it could villanize his "WWE For Life Guy" name among the fans and the whole thing about him swearing to be with the WWE throughout his career could come off as extremely hypocritical.
1 He Has Tapped Out Despite Claims That He Never Has
John Cena has become the Face of the WWE mainly because of his "Never Give Up" attitude in the ring and even though he has been pinned numerous times to lose a match, he has always boasted about how he'd never quit or submit to anybody. While he definitely hasn't tapped out to anyone recently, that fact is not true at all as SuperCena actually did tap out early in his career. It was against Kurt Angle in a match at No Mercy 2003, as Angle made the heel Doctor of Thuganomics tap out to his Ankle Lock, being the only WWE superstar to have done so. This is a fact which Cena would want to keep under the rag, as he'd want the fans to forget about that match in which he tapped out to lose the match as it could destroy his "never give up" mantra which has heralded him to so much success and popularity over the years and made him a world-wide inspiration for many kids.
