The Young Bucks have become arguably the most important tag team of the past decade. Despite never signing with WWE, Matt and Nick Jackson knew how to make the most of their opportunities when given the chance to succeed. There were some struggles in TNA and Ring of Honor, but they eventually proved to be huge draws for New Japan and beyond.

The following backstage stories about the Young Bucks will surprise you and provide insight into their journey.

10 Finn Balor Recruited Them To Bullet Club

The Bullet Club became one of the hottest acts of the 2010s when leading New Japan to new success. Finn Balor’s time as Prince Devitt saw him leading the group with various non-Japanese wrestlers trying to take over the company.

The Young Bucks were recruited by Balor to join the group and turned out to be a great fit. There was the fun tie-in of the Bullet Club doing the “too sweet” gesture while the Bucks were doing crotch chops to shout out the past factions.

9 Gangrel Purchased Their Childhood Wrestling Ring From Their Dad

The Young Bucks grew up running their own wrestling shows in their teenage years when owning a wrestling ring in their backyard. Matt and Nick becoming huge success stories saw their father finally able to sell the ring.

Nick revealed a fun story on the Kevin Steen Show that he was shocked to find Gangrel when visiting his parents’ home. The father of The Young Bucks sold the ring to Gangrel for his wrestling school to show how small the wrestling world is.

8 Planned To Have Cross Promotion TNA Vs ROH Feud Before TNA Management Changed

Young Bucks Vs Hardy Boyz

Ring of Honor received a lot of interest for The Young Bucks vs Hardy Boyz feud during Matt and Jeff’s final few months before joining WWE. The two tag teams always wanted to work together and had a great idea in mind.

Their plan was to have the feud become an ROH vs TNA thing when the Hardy brothers were still in TNA. The hope was to have a match on the Hardy compound for TNA, but new management came in and canceled all plans. ROH benefited from having all the matches on their shows before Matt and Jeff moved to WWE for the next few years.

7 Couldn't Afford Meals While Working For TNA

The Young Bucks in TNA

TNA often disappointed wrestlers who arrived in the company excited about getting their big break. Matt and Nick Jackson signed with TNA just a few weeks before Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff took over after a great tryout vs The Motor City Machine Guns.

Unfortunately, The Young Bucks learned how unreliable TNA was. Their contract paid them per appearance, and they struggled to make money when TNA lost interest in them. Matt revealed he couldn’t even afford chicken sandwiches at Popeye’s for dinner when working for TNA at the end.

6 WWE Threatened To Sue Them

WWE has not been happy about some of the actions from The Young Bucks. The main reason for this was the Bucks getting exclusive deals for them and a few others with Hot Topic, Funko, and a few other brands who only worked with WWE at the time.

This influenced the decision for WWE to send a cease and desist to Matt and Nick for using the “too sweet” gesture of the New World Order during their time in Bullet Club. WWE’s threats featured the company saying they’d sue for $150,000 if things didn’t change. The Young Bucks responded by making a shirt with the words “cease and desist” censoring the "too sweet" gesture.

5 Jim Cornette Told Them His Insults Was A Worked Shoot

The hostility between Jim Cornette and The Young Bucks have seen him crossing the line with personal insults and threats. Matt and Nick revealed it’s all a work in Cornette’s mind when running into each other at an autograph convention.

Cornette allegedly said “we have the only angle that’s working everyone” during the short interaction. The Young Bucks were unhappy about this and claimed they’d never work with Cornette on any professional level again.

4 CM Punk Didn't Think They'd Fit In The Bullet Club

One of the funnier moments for The Young Bucks featured them overhearing CM Punk’s opinion on them joining the Bullet Club. Luke Gallows was in the faction and has always been a close friend of Punk going back to their time together in the Straight Edge Society.

The two were chatting over the audio media app Vox when Punk asked why in the world were the Bucks joining the group. Many people questioned their act fitting in the Bullet Club, but Punk and everyone else would witness the success.

3 Kevin Owens Started Their Friendship With Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes instantly meshed with The Young Bucks when joining the Bullet Club in both Ring of Honor and New Japan. The close bond saw Cody becoming a weekly fixture on the Being the Elite series and helping set the groundwork for what became AEW.

Kevin Owens was the one to really start the friendship between both parties. Matt Jackson revealed that KO told them that Cody was a good person and they’d get along. The rest is history as they’re now trying to run AEW together.

2 Made Peace With Booker T At Indie Show

The infamous WWE tryout that ended with Booker T yelling at The Young Bucks in the locker room and insulting them on Twitter dominated the internet for a week. Booker considered Matt and Nick disrespectful when one of them accidentally leaned on his jacket.

They eventually all made peace when booked on the same event for Northeast Wrestling. A documentary team was filming backstage for the Bucks match with The Hardy Boyz. The cameras caught them embracing and shaking hands as Kevin Owens and Matt Hardy joyfully watched.

1 Scott Hall Buried Them Backstage During TNA Match

The TNA run of The Young Bucks didn’t work out as planned, but it did result in a lot of fun stories. One story involved Scott Hall going out of his way to bury them during a memorable match against The Motor City Machine Guns on PPV.

The veteran was upset at Nick Jackson doing a Swanton Bomb hours before Jeff Hardy in the main event. Matt and Nick were informed that they needed to apologize to Jeff and talk to Hall since he was so vocal. Jeff wasn’t angry in the slightest and Hall joked with the Bucks about burying them in front of everyone when they apologized.
