At the Royal Rumble AJ Styles was forced to defend his WWE Championship against two people at the same time in a handicap match. The Phenomenal One foolishly said that he wanted to face Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens at the same time so he could keep his eye on the both of them and thus the title match was booked.

Styles successfully walked out of Philadelphia still WWE Champion but his issues with the Montreal pair aren’t over yet. This past Tuesday on SmackDown Live KO and Zayn were forced to go head to head to decide who will be facing Styles for the title at Fastlane. Rather predictably the match ended in a messy fashion and Daniel Bryan emerged to announce that the Fastlane main event will be a triple threat match.

Even though the match is a triple threat rather than a handicap bout it still feels like a bit of a rehash of what we saw at the Royal Rumble. It feels like WWE creative don’t know what to do in order to bridge the gap between now and Styles’ WrestleMania match with Shinsuke Nakamura. Well on Thursday Shane McMahon took to Twitter to announce that the Fastlane main event will not simply be a repeat of what we saw in Philadelphia.

Clearly the commissioner isn’t happy about the match that his GM has booked and declared that whoever wins the previously booked match between Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin this coming Tuesday will be added to the title match. That means we have a fatal four way to look forward to as opposed to a triple threat with an extra face added to the already pretty convoluted mix.

The good news is that we will be getting a Fastlane main event that has a different feel to something we have already seen recently. The bad news is that neither Corbin nor Ziggler have a legitimate claim to be in the title picture right now. The Lone Wolf hasn’t done much of anything recently and The Showoff has been absent since he abdicated the US Title, aside from appearing in the Royal Rumble match. Nevertheless one of them will be getting a WWE Championship shot at Fastlane.
