10 Asuka Vs Nikki Cross, NXT 2017 (4 Stars)

Whilst Nikki Cross never reached the heights of actually winning the NXT Women’s Championship, this match showcased that she belonged in and around the title scene, and it proved that she should have perhaps been booked more strongly both in NXT and the main roster.

This was a car crash of a Last Woman Standing match which featured several huge spots and moments that weren’t often seen on NXT’s weekly TV show. The most memorable moment came with a massive superplex from atop ladder and through the announce table.

9 Charlotte Flair Vs Natalya, NXT: Takeover 2014 (4 Stars)

After Paige relinquished the NXT Women’s Championship, Charlotte and Natalya found themselves in the finals of a tournament to crown a new champion. With Ric Flair and Bret Hart in their respective corners, this had a big fight feel to it.

The focus on this match was technical and more mat-based offense, with some big moments sprinkled in around the match with several near-submissions. The pair were given free reign to properly wrestle and a lot of time to do so, with this being far different that anything seen from WWE’s women’s division at the time.

8 Sasha Banks Vs Becky Lynch, NXT Takeover: Unstoppable 2015 (4 Stars)

Up to this point, Becky Lynch had felt like a background character to the storylines between Sasha Banks, Bayley, and Charlotte, but this match elevated her in a huge way, with a star-making babyface performance.

This was a wonderfully technical, gritty, and brutal match at times, with the pair gelling with incredible chemistry throughout. The crowd grew in its response to Lynch throughout the match, and even in defeat, this was a pivotal match to set her on course for becoming a star.

7 Io Shirai Vs Raquel Gonzalez, NXT Takeover: Stand & Deliver 2021 (4.25 Stars)

The booking for Raquel Gonzalez up to this point had been perfect, with her steadily gaining bigger wins as time went on, and the natural progression saw her win the NXT Women’s Championship.

Even though there was a predictable nature this this, it was a great David vs Goliath match, with both women playing to their strengths to create a great dynamic. It wasn’t overly long, so perhaps its rating is a little high, but overall, it did its job.

6 Charlotte Flair Vs Io Shirai Vs Rhea Ripley, NXT Takeover: In Your House 2020 (4.25 Stars)

The entire booking of Charlotte’s second NXT Women’s Championship reign wasn’t very good, but from an in-ring perspective, it delivered. This match main evented Takeover: In Your House, and each woman shined.

Io Shirai was more than ready to become champion, and she stole the show in several different moments, including a massive moonsault from the entrance set.

5 Asuka vs Ember Moon, NXT Takeover: Orlando 2017 (4.25 Stars)

This was the first of two matches that these two had when battling for the NXT Women’s Championship, and it was a great showcase to what they could do in the ring with one another. There was some expectation that Moon was winning this match, but a victory was rightfully held off.

Asuka’s character work was brilliant, with her becoming far too overconfident, with it nearly costing her the match. After over a year unbeaten, she resorted to using underhanded tactics to retain her belt, which helped Moon look strong even in defeat.

4 Io Shirai Vs Candice LeRae, NXT Halloween Havoc 2020 (4.25 Stars)

This was a “Tables, Ladders, and Scares” match, playing into the Halloween Havoc theme. It was a brutal match between two former friends who had developed a great feud, especially when it came to their in-ring work.

There were a few great spots, most notably one which saw LeRae crashing through a ladder. Whilst the interference hurt the match a little, it didn’t detract much from the action which came before.

3 Bayley Vs Sasha Banks, NXT Takeover: Respect 2015 (4.25 Stars)

This was the first ever women’s match to headline a major WWE event, making it a hugely historic encounter between two of the very best in the business. Not just that, but it was the first ever Iron Woman match, and at the time it was the longest women’s match in WWE history.

There was a lot of expectations to live up to, but they managed to produce a fantastic match which was paced to perfection and featured incredible character work, especially on the part of Banks, whose heel tactics and personality were stellar. This marked Banks’ goodbye from NXT, and she went out in the best of ways, whilst also extending Bayley's title reign with a huge victory.

2 Asuka vs Ember Moon, NXT Takeover: Brooklyn 3 2017 (4.5 Stars)

In their highly anticipated rematch, Asuka and Ember Moon surpassed their previous bout. The story around this match was that Moon had never been able to hit Asuka with her finishing move, The Eclipse.

When she finally hit it, the arena went berserk, only for Asuka to kick out and truly look unbeatable, further raising her aura as the greatest NXT Women’s Champion of all time. The rest of the match was wrestled brilliantly, with several hard-hitting moves and liquid wrestling.

When it comes to the matches which truly changed women’s wrestling forever, this match is at the top of the list. The crowd treated Sasha Banks and Bayley like the biggest stars on the show, and their match told a phenomenal story of Bayley finally digging down deep enough to find the strength to overcome her biggest rival.

It was brutal, fluid, and featured many huge moments which all came together for a perfect match. This was a stunning match which made their rivalry one of the best in recent memory, with several other classics following this.
