On August 30th, 2020, Roman Reigns began one of the greatest character progressions in current wrestling history. This coincided with him aligning with Paul Heyman and becoming Universal Champion for the second time. After over a year as champion and putting down every challenger in his path it doesn’t look like anyone can pry the SmackDown championship out of the Tribal Chief's grasp. That opens up many opportunities for WWE's creative team and fantasy bookers. Could we see The Rock topple Reigns when WrestleMania visits Hollywood in 2023? Does a current SmackDown roster member such as Drew McIntyre take the title before the inevitable Rock vs Reigns clash? Or does WWE build a new star, no doubt this isn’t just the smart move but surely the most creatively beneficial to all involved? Bron Breakker, the man who has taken the new NXT by storm has the potential to not only be the guy but more importantly, beat the guy. If Bron Breakker is the future, then why not bring the future to WWE television as soon as possible?

The Big Dog Continues To Protect His Yard

Roman Reigns is the biggest star in WWE currently and arguably has the most convincing character in wrestling today. His Universal Championship reign is soon to become the overall longest. He’s given prestige to a championship which with anyone else is just seen as the WWE championship with a different color strap. He has legitimized a SmackDown roster which on Fox has become the A show in not only the eyes of fans but investors and television networks. While maintaining his position at the top of the card has been a smart move by WWE it has made it difficult for them to find potential opponents that look like credible threats to his title. Stars have been elevated while feuding with Reigns and The Bloodline, but none have looked like they’ll end his winning streak. But he has to lose that title one day, and who better than a rising star?

Another World Champion Steiner?

Bron Breakker has been one of the few breakout stars of the new NXT 2.0. Since day one of the reimaginings of which was once Triple H’s brand of indie excellence the young Steiner has seen himself move quickly to the top of the card. He has now become an exciting new star that hopefully can become one of few wrestlers promoted through the ranks in WWE to really fulfill their potential. He has been a part of the most recent main roster European tour seeing him take on Tommasso Ciampa and Sami Zayn. Fans and media suspect that Breakker could be fast-tracked to the top, so why not give him a Lesnar-esque push? Bring the NXT star in after WrestleMania or even sooner, slowly building him up through short matches against more athletic talent and highlighting his unique move set while he gains valuable experience in front of larger crowds.

Bron Breakker's Rise To The Top Of WWE Should Be Simple

A feud between the two really benefits all involved. The young and fresh new talent taking on the main roster's most dominant entity. Reigns can carry on his epic title reign and be the focal point of SmackDown as Breakker makes a name for himself. Both men are elevated through the process. The idea of a major heel getting over is that in the end a babyface is there waiting to conquer him. No one has done that to Reigns so far. But by being defeated on a grand stage while subsequently putting over what looks to be the next star of the company then it cements his run as one of the greatest and most satisfying in the modern era. Breakker could go a full year having matches with whoever the roster has to offer, not main eventing but slowly cementing his place on PPV cards. Then forging a path towards the Bloodline and the Head Of The Table’s championship. By pulling the trigger a new star is built and the company gets what Vince has yearned for years, an over babyface who gets a positive crowd reaction.

WWE has had problems for quite a while in organically creating stars. Main event talent is something they seem to squander and will only push forward with someone who completely fits their mold. Well now is their opportunity, we’ve said this about quite a few muscled-up stars over 6 foot for the last few years but they have everything Vince wants in his wrestlers and it would be hard to fail. However, Breakker has the edge, due to him being completely homegrown in the WWE style and looking like the first real graduate of the new NXT developmental system. If WWE wanted a star, well they’ve got one and why not cement his star status by ending one of the most dominant reigns in the modern empire, the Roman empire to be exact.
