Charlotte Flair is already one of the most, if not the single most, decorated woman in WWE history. She has accumulated so many title reigns that at times, even WWE doesn’t know many she has. On a recent edition of SmackDown, she was referred to as having 14 title reigns, although she technically only has 12, and even then, it's argued that her overall total should only be 11. Either way, not all these reigns had any impact, so it poses the question of how many of her title reigns actually mattered?

Her First Couple Of Reigns Changed Women’s Wrestling

Assuming that Flair is a 12-time champion, this will ignore her two reigns as NXT Women’s Champion. Her first ‘world title’ reign, came when she defeated Nikki Bella for the Divas Championship. Whilst this title is one of the worst booked, designed, and lowly regarded championships of all time, this reign actually held a lot of importance.

Her time as Divas Champion was pivotal during the initial ‘Women’s Revolution’, showing that the women should no longer be considered ‘Divas’, but instead, ‘Superstars’. She headed the charge in reshaping women’s wrestling, being a dominant champion, and prompting the introduction of the brand new ‘Women’s Championship’ at WrestleMania 32. She would win that title in a triple threat match against Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks. Flair was certainly the right choice to be the head of the division, with a huge moment under bright lights, which will go down in history.

She Had Some Strong Moments On Both Brands Over The Next Couple Years

That initial run with the belt was strong, but following the 2016 brand split, the title was renamed to the ‘Raw Women’s Championship’, and Flair would play hot potato with Sasha Banks, swapping the title back and forth multiple times over the fall, devaluing their reigns. With these short reigns, there wasn’t much time to accomplish anything substantial, however the pair became the first women to main event a WWE PPV, with Flair winning back the title inside a Hell in a Cell match. Despite another short reign following this, it was a monumental moment, making the reign hold some importance.

She would eventually move over to SmackDown, winning the Women’s title on that brand. Her first win was noteworthy, as it made her the first and only woman to win the NXT, Divas, Raw, and SD Women’s Championships. This reign was one of her longer ones, stretching to 147 days, carrying the title through Wrestlemania, defeating the previously undefeated Asuka in a wonderful match. Whilst this derailed Asuka’s momentum significantly, it was big moment for Flair and her reign, although she would lose the title on the following Smackdown, being cashed in on by Carmella.

WWE Botched Multiple Of Her Reigns, Especially With The Popularity Of Becky Lynch

Flair would win back the title for a brief period at Summerslam, beating Carmella and Becky Lynch. This reign was a dud, as fans were desperate for Lynch to win, despite WWE wanting to turn her heel. It was a big mess that concluded with Flair’s reign being cut short. In the lead up to the following WrestleMania, she was scheduled to be included in the triple threat Raw Women’s Title match against Ronda Rousey and Lynch.

In a cheap move, just a couple weeks before the show, Flair would show up on the opposite brand and win the SmackDown belt from Asuka, before losing once again at WrestleMania. This was another obvious attempt at boosting her tally, with another unremarkable victory, and making the main event of Mania become the ‘Winner Takes All’ match.

It Has Been Short Reign After Short Reign For A While

Her next two reigns with this belt would be just five days and the other less than one day, with one of those reigns just being as a tool to take the title from babyface Lynch, and to transfer it to another face in Bayley. They were pointless, unnecessary reigns that meant nothing. She would have yet another single day reign in the last year, defeating Rhea Ripley once again to win the Raw Women’s Title, only to lose it to another cash-in on the next night. And, you guessed it, she won the title back a month later anyway, rendering everything in between meaningless.

Her current reign has lacked any big moments thus far, and it feels it's only a matter of time before she loses it, and then likely wins it again, in order to raise her number of reigns. All in all, out of these twelve reigns, only about three or four bore much significance, with her reigns often boasting no memorable moments. It’s a shame given her immense talent, but as a champion, she won’t rank amongst the best, despite her large total.
