If WWE intends to get one of the two unified titles off of Roman Reigns, they might have to split them up. And, according to a recent report, that may be exactly what the company is planning to do.

The WWE Universal Championship was established on July 25, 2016, and was exclusive to the Raw brand. It was unified with the WWE Championship and won by Reigns nearly a year ago.

The company has built Reigns up to be an unstoppable force as the Head of the Table and the challenge with making him so unbeatable is that the company has struggled to find a way to separate the belts so that each brand has its own main championship. As Reigns works his way more into the world of being a part-time performer, the issue of the championship(s) not being defended has only grown more important.

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of ThirstyForNews.com), plans could be in place for those titles to be separated again in the near future. This could as this year's WrestleMania, or perhaps even earlier. It seems unlikely that he will lose the WWE Universal Championship in two weeks at Royal Rumble to Kevin Owens, but that may depend on Reigns' potential opponent on the biggest card of the year. If either Cody Rhodes or The Rock is slated to challenge him, WWE may elect to try and create two main title matches at the Showcase of the Immortals. If either can go -- and it seems likely Rhodes can as he announced his entry into the Royal Rumble during Monday's Raw -- Rhodes may be pegged to win one of the championships.

Would WWE Have Reigns Vacate A Title?

There is a slight chance that WWE may find a creative way to force Reigns' to vacate a title. This could create a situation where Rhodes can battle someone else at WrestleMania (Seth Rollins) and Reigns can have an opponent of his own for the title he still holds.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Sami Zayn accidentally created a scenario where Reigns had to vacate a title and then The Tribal Chief decided he would battle Zayn at WrestleMania? Rhodes could then fight for his shot at the vacated title at WrestleMania 39.
